Definitely also listen to this episode with headphones on. At times you'll see there's another issue where it makes you blow out the headphones :p Regardless of volume. Thanks for the episode though i love a lot of these games. Relayer is actually pretty awesome if you just look at it as an alternative to sd gundam games with a different story but still tactical combat :p It's actually a hard game unless you just overlevel and a challenge for SRPG fans.
Is that why the audio seemed a little weird to me? I don't know a ton about it, but something felt off and I was going crazy trying to test different things and figure out what it is. XD

My favorite exclusives are Demons Souls, GoW Ragnarok & Stray.
But the PS5 has some of the best ports of multi platform games too, particularly if you play games at launch. Elden Ring is my #1 and I have a feeling RE4make will be alongside it but I need to finish Wo Long first. I’m REALLY loving Wo Long much more than I thought I would. The combat is addictive, fun and you feel badass when you get a hard boss’ parry timings down.
These last two years have been the worst of my life. Hang in there.

@@Enigmalake there are 5 maybe 6 total, out of over 200 PS5 releases only 5 were made for current gen only to utilize the PS5 capabilities to the max. It's been almost 3 yrs now and we're still getting cross gen ports. FF 16, The star wars game and one other is about it for this year that are PS5 only. I'm still waiting for true greatness like we saw with all the tech demos and UE engine stuff before launch.

Valkyrie Elysium is one of the most slept on games on the PS5. Great game, loved every moment!!
Is the world not empty and dead. I played the demo and enjoyed the combat but was concerned the story and world was lacking
@@GT.Bugger The worlds, for me, was extremely empty and bland. It felt more like a Devil May Cry game, where you go from point a to b and collect flowers. I couldn't finish the grind.

Valkyrie Elysium is a perfect example of SquareEnix, taking a great idea for a game and half assing it. Game had the potential to be S tier but, ended up just being okay.
I agree Ghostwire Toyko is a very fun game. I don't get why it doesn't get much love.
For me, Returnal ended up being a massive surprise that I absolutely loved! I’ve never been into the Dark Souls games but I was completely floored by how much I enjoyed Returnal. Another big surprise for me was Riders Republic, I played the ever loving crap out of that game last year & still come back to it every once in a while. Also loving the obvious ones like RE4 Remake, Dead Space Remake, Ragnarok & Ghost of Tsushima. The survival mode in Ghost of Tsushima is absolutely addicting & highly recommend if you haven’t tried it already.
Returnal and Dark Souls are completely different genres. I'm confused as to why you thought that you wouldn't like Returnal, a 3rd person roguelike shooter, because you don't like Dark Souls, a 3rd person dungeon crawling Meteoidvania style game. Perhaps because they both have higher default skill levels required?

Mile Morales and God of War Ragnarök are still my two favrotie PS5 games. I'm getting Horizon Forbidden West next.
The newest generation of consoles are the first in like a decade or more where I feel like they can get close to looking and feeling as good as gaming on a PC. PC will forever be the king, but damn do I love my PS5!

I too am lucky enough to have a ps5 and already for me it's shaping up to be a legendary console with there already having many great RPGs, horror games and loads more to come in the future.
Picked up Valkyrie Elysium today along with my first proper arcade stick also compatible with the ps5 all ready for Street fighter 6.

The PS5 game I want the most after RE4 is now a Tak and the Power of Juju trilogy remake loved those games on PS2 especially Tak 2 the Staff of Dreams!
The original Tak trilogy are GOATED 3D platformers amazing gameplay and the soundtracks are absolutely incredible!

I agree, but Ubisoft did this to themselves. I was beyond skeptical because it was an Ubi release. By the time that I finally got to play a demo, and found the game to be enjoyable, too many other games had come along. I jsut finished up 175 hours in Hogwart's Legacy according to my PS5, and I went back to try Immortals now that it's free, and I couldn't do it. I'm beyond tired of devs making trigger buttons attack buttons for melee combat.

So, while most other games have standardized controls, and I don't have to waste five or ten minutes fucking around with them before I can even play the game, I'm supposed to go in to the options, change all of the mapping, and then try out the game? So how much time do I spend on a demo exactly? If I don't like the demo of the game, then I've wasted that much more time on a game that I don't like. For the purposes of the demo, it's easier to just deal with the trigger buttons being attacks, but it still messes with muscle memory. WoW, so sorry that I upset you by venting about the stupidity of the trigger buttons.
Oh wait, that's right, a LOT of games CAN'T have the controls remapped. At best, you might be lucky and get a few different presets. Kingdom Hearts III comes to mind. I'm not a huge Disney fan or Square fan, but I checked out a demo of KHIII a few years ago. It's a pretty cool game except for the whole dodge-and-jump-being-flipped-and-me-not-being-able-to-change-it thing. It made the game basically unplayable.
Oh but wait, there's more! I bet that you didn't expect to get so much value out of such a pathetic response, did you?! Well here at Xoulrath, Inc. we aim to please! I actually DID bother to mess with remapping the controls the last time that I gave Immortals a try, which was literally within the week since it's available for free on my PS+. After setting up my typical control preferences for attacks, jump, and dodge, there were too many inputs left unaccounted for. Why? Because instead of simply swapping out the buttons like most games do, as changes are made to the mapping, Immortals leaves those buttons blank. So yay, now I get even more extra work to play a game.
I don't play games to work, and overcomplicated controls don't impress anyone. Changing standards doesn't impress anyone. You know what else doesn't impress people? Arrogant responses to someone that you don't know in person, attacking them as though they are stupid and didn't already try your fucking easy mode suggestion. Do you have an inferiority complex? Because if you don't, then you should. Fucking moron.
I don’t have a PS5 … couldn’t afford one, and most of the games I want are multi console. But I’m graduating from college this month and with FF16 coming out, I might finally have the money and desire to get one.

Games go on sale well quick these days so if you can hold off buying them day one you'll save a heap of money over time

I've been playing Soul Hackers 2. it's my first SMT game and I feel like it pulled me into the game. I have 100 hours playtime in it and I'm trying to get all the achievements and demons for the registry to 100 percent. I doesn't seem like a game that is 10/10 it's more like a 7 objectively. But for me personally I'm having ALOT of fun.
I never heard of this game but it looks like a copy of Persona 5

Ghost of Tsihma is my top PS4 game ever. Awesome collection, great games.
When I heard sunshine coastline come on in the background I got chills. Ys 8 soundtrack is incredible
Until 3 weeks ago my favourite game was star wars fallen jedi but after playing a plague tail 1 & 2 they would had to be my favourite for one reason no other game made me want to cry like a plague tale requiem did at the end I couldn't get that final scene out of my head so yep my favourite is both the plague tale games
I think you'd really enjoy a game called The Forgotten City, John! It's a really outstanding story driven first person game with lots of mystery.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits for me remains one of the most memorable games I played on the PS5

I've played a lot of these games and my gawd this video took me back to the memories on a lot of these games. So many great titles on the PS5.
I haven't had a PlayStation console since the PS2, I think the PS5 is going to be my next console.
Soul Hackers 2 is in the shadow of Persona and SMT so of course it's never going to stand up to those comparisons, but just talking JRPGs at large, it's a really solid one and I had a great time with it. I also enjoyed that the characters were adults instead of high school kids like many SMT adjacent games, so that can be refreshing and they were able to grow those characters in different ways. Best part about the game is that if you already have it, then it'll make for a fun time whenever you have time for it, and for anyone that doesn't have it, you can get it for a pretty decent price.
I really liked this one two. The whole style and vibe really did it for me me. It feels a lot more old smt than persona does. A darker vibe but really stylish visuals.

I don't own a PS5 yet. My rule for getting a new console is that must have at least 10 games that I want to play that aren't on other console I already have. All of ps5 games I want are also on ps4 as well.
.... but not for long. Tekken 8 and FF16 looks amazing as a good start.

I still need to Get a PS5 at some point, but when I Do! The Games I want the Most, are: Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, Horizon Forbidden West, Destroy All Humans 2 Remake, Ghostwire Tokyo, Sonic Frontiers, & God Of War Ragnarok!
For me Plague Tale: Requiem, as well as the first game, Innocence, have been an incredibly emotional experience. The gameplay is very standard, but the story is gripping and sentimental as none other!
My favorite is by far Demon's souls. I loved the original, love the remake just as much. Loving resi 4 right now going to do Ragnarok next! Keep up the great work Jonny.
A couple must-haves:
1) For puzzle-platformer fans, you need to play Hoa. It’s a very, very short game but is absolutely outstanding.
2) For OG survival horror fans (tank controls + fixed camera angles) Tormented Souls is a must.
I just got a PS5 IN September of 2023. I don't have many games, but I do have Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, Horizon Forbidden West, Back 4 Blood, and Resident Evil 4 remake.
Almost 300,000 Subscribers! Should be over 1Million in my opinion.
Also, Soul Hackers 2 is really good, I feel like most people who dog on it have not played it through.

John, it was because of your comments on the Yakuza series over the years that drew me into the series as well as Judgement and Lost Judgement. You are correct in saying excellent games! I really enjoy the story lines.
I have since gotten a few friends hooked as well.
I normally hate rogue like games but Returnal spoke to me with its sci-fi creepiness. I stopped approaching it like a game that has a progression and started thinking of it like an old arcade game where you just see how far you can get and I eventually beat it. The controls and combat are so tight and when the stars align and you get your favorite weapon and some upgrades everything just fell into place. Another game I loved was Chorvs. I havent had that much fun with a space shooter in a long time.

You have mastered reviewing a large number of games, within a reasonable amount of time. Saying just enough to make your point without skimping on any titles.

I already played the RGG games you mentioned on my Series X, but I did not hesitate to buy them again on my PS5 because they're such great games!
Some under the radar PS5 games I really liked that some may have not heard of: Grime - a stylish fun Metroidvania that had an awesome visual style. F.I.S.T - another cool Metroidvania I thought was awesome. The Entropy Centre - an awesome puzzle game I absolutely adored. One of my favorite games of 2022. Death's Door is another one I think Johnny covered on the channel before. Tormented Souls - old school Resident Evil style game with limited saves and everything. Really pays homage to classic RE. Soulstice - Devil May Cry style game with a setting that's kinda Souls-like.
it feels neat when you believed that you have found the right youtuber, the one with basically your same taste and opinions, and then said youtuber proceeds to make a video with a collection that is spot on the same as mine. As if I had been influenced to purchase these games or something... I doubt it though, I got them because I wanted them.
Any how, one recommendation from my part would be days gone on PS5, the PS5 patch straight up makes the game completable.

I loved Midnight Suns a lot more than I anticipated. Well told story with a deep card-based X-com-style combat system.

I had such a blast with Midnight Suns. I loved how the improvements in the abbey influenced battles and vice versa. Combat was also so good in general.
Would love for you to give this one some pub John, it's a strategy RPG where you use cards to execute commands. It's not selling all that great but is a great game.
It was marketed as an X-Com style tactics game using Marvel superheroes, and with cards to give the game a twist. The reality is that it's a bad card game that uses the battleground as a way to animate the actions of the card.
It was perhaps my most anticipated release last year, and I'm so thankful that I got cold feet before purchasing when the clerk told me the $70+tax total. When I got to check out the trial on my PS5 about a month later, I couldn't even be bothered to finish the entire thing because it was so bad.
Yet another genre, watered down to appeal to the largest audience as possible, to pull in big bucks for the suits. Funny how that continually fails to work...

I got it on a digital sale and went into it with low expectations, having read/watched a number of reviews. I ended up really liking it despite its flaws.
I hope your most anticipated game this year lives up to your expectations.
I love The Pathless, Inertial Drift, and Edge of Eternity. All of them lower budget games but a lot of fun.

I'm sad it doesn't get more indy love and publicity. It's got a lot of heart. It's not final fantasy but that's not why we love it.

I loved Star Ocean The Divine Force. I love the Star Ocean series. Till the End of Time is one of my all time favorites. It surprises me that more people aren't into Star Ocean.
I pick up Star ocean 2 for my ps1 and am enjoying it at the moment (already on disc 2) and yeah I loved end of time back in the day so your comment is gonna make me pick up divine force 👍

I disagree heavily. The game was incredible. The storyline wasn't as strong as some of the other star ocean games, but the open world exploration and traversal with Duma was amazing. The characters were exceptional and the game made great use of the ps5 controllers haptic feedback.
My favorite ps5 game is probably Demons Souls. For nonexclusive games that are in my collection, I’d say Elden Ring, Ghost of Tsushima, and FF7. Even tho a lot of the games don’t truly feel next gen and you might as well be paying solely for the ps5 branding on the case, I’m excited to build up my collection over the next few years. For the past few console generations there has always been a point where I had to sell my system + games to pay for more important things, but I’m finally at a point in life where I’m financially secure enough to not have to sell off my hobbies lol. I guess it’s a silly thing to be excited about, but as much joy gaming brings me it’s nice to be able to look on my shelf and be able to recall all the good memories and moments.
Returnal's one of the games of the generation and it still hasn't even started yet. I'm in no rush to finish it, it's something I set some time aside to play.
I love Death Stranding. The only thing about this list is the lack of exclusives for the PS5. Most of them are available in previous gen.

I had so much fun on day 1 of the ps5 playing astros playroom & spiderman miles morales, both just so much fun & a great way to start a new generation
Really excited to see spiderman 2 later this year and hoping to get a full astro game hopefully soon too
I just really hope we start seeing more games the use the full potential of the ps5 in the second half of thus year aswell
I would say 5 must haves for me would be Dead Space, RE4, Tales of Arise, Ghosts of Tsushima, and Elden Ring.
I ABSOLUTELY ADORE Stray and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart too Johnny. Also, for those of you that are into nostalgia, you NEED to play the Dead Space Remake. It is ABSOLUTELY and FREAKIN' AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I have never played the original before unfortunately, but to see the comparisons between the original and the remake, is like night and day. For those of you that loved the original back in the day, you will LOVE the remake. It's the original PLUS a WHOLE lot of other stuff thrown in.
Lost Judgement was so good. I love the rendering of the foods. Tasty 😋😋😋
Valkerie Elysium and Diofield Chronicles were not on my radar until you said it reminded you of Squaresoft.

Always wondered this, do you buy physically and keep the game in the plastic then buy digitally to play the game. Every time you show a game it's sealed which I think is neat. Thanks again for all the videos and effort you put into the community.

There are plenty of PS4 games to play on it off the PS plus collection. They're discontinuing it soon, so be sure to add them to your library before the deadline.

Well soon as you put up this video i finally bought a PS5 johnny.Took selling off a valuable game from my collection to raise funds asap.Still i had no problem replacing it with a burn so no problem for me.I picked the right time to buy one to since it's supply is catching up to the demand finally.What you shown from you're collection i know want to buy is demon's souls,stray and dead space.
Great generation so far, my highlights so far goes to:
-Returnal: Fun, Fast Paced and Challange With Amazing Narrative,
-R&C: Rift Apart: Beautiful, Fun and Awsome Showcase PS5 SSD,
-GOW: Ragnarok - My Favorit Single Player Narrative So Far, One Of The Best Voice Acting In A Video Game, Amazing Sound Design And Perfect Crafted Cutscenes.
Must have in near future:
-FF16
-Diablo 4
-Granblue Fantasy: Relink

The thing with Ghostwire Tokyo is it was a PS5 exclusive for a year, but after that it's coming to Game Pass. So I think Ghostwire will get a lot more love now. I know I have waited to play Ghostwire since I sub to Game Pass instead of buying it on playstation.
Better yet, the Game Pass people should be able to play the updated version with new content. I was so excited for GW:T, but after playing it, I was let down. It was great in some ways, but meh in others, and it really just added up to an overall average experience for me. I hope to find some time to give it another go with the update, but now I've got other games taking up space in my brain, waiting to be played.
I finally bought PS5 for the upcoming Tekken 8. Been replaying the original Demon's Souls before venturing into the PS5-remake. Returnal is also on my wish list.

I don’t think death stranding is either love it or hate it because I’m somewhere in the middle. I saw my friend playing it and it looked interesting and I’m not interested in ever playing it but i can still appreciate it. My friend is also somewhere in the middle,he doesn’t like it that much but continues to play it.

I just got a PS5, the God Of War bundle! First game I got on disc was Horizon Forbidden West. Very nice collection you have!!
I only have 3 Ps5 games. Octopath Traveler II, FF7 Remake and FF Crisis Core Reunion. I just got my system a few months ago. I have to pick and choose what I buy. Everything is so expensive...however, I can still play all the ps4 games I've collected over the years. I DO plan on purchshing FF16, Diablo 4 and FF7 Rebirth when they come out.
I still don't have a PS5, and even now that I can finally find one in stores, I'm still hesitant to pick it up. There's just nothing there for me. You know what would have been amazing? If Crash Bandicoot 4 would have been a launch title. I would absolutely own a PS5 for that, but I don't need to because it's on PS4 and Xbox. Besides that, I just haven't seen anything for me that justifies upgrading. I'm glad you're enjoying it, though! Now, I want to know what Nintendo is going to do next because THAT is where I drain most of my money...
I completely agree with your take on sonic frontiers. For me Rachet and clank was so impressive that I’d actually call it my favorite game of all time. I can’t wait for the next spider man game.

Please note that below was posted BEFORE watching the video so if Witcher 3 is shown I apologize now!!. I'm also only mentioning PS4 games. Enhanced on Pro and PS5 systems and its surprising how many are out there that run in 4K on PS4 Pro/PS5 if TV is capable. My TV defaults to 1080p on PS4 if powered up already. If both powered off and wait until Android Logo changes on TV before powering the PS4 on it goes into 2160p Mode with UHD enabled. Took a while to work out TV mode issues but Rise of the Tomb Raider is amazing in 4K at 60FPS.. Possible drops to 30FPS but NOT noticed yet.

I'll compile my list and post it here for you. ONLY PS4 Pro Enhanced games will be listed. Digital only as well. Won't list standard games as they all run in 4K anyway on mine. Should all be PS5 enabled or versions available solely for PS5.

Nice freebie on Store that we got released is PSO2: New Genesis. When I say WE, I mean a few million players on the Japanese version that was released about 7 years ago. Been playing/helping with English translation for about 4 years. Released on Steam initially as New Genesis. Ported to PS4 this year. Hefty download at about 50GB for New Genesis. To play the game that we played is another 50GB. 3 data files. Can't be accessed until tutorial in New Genesis is completed so don't rush with data 1, 2 and 3 updates. 2 games for free. Online play only but NO link to PSN. It's Sega's own servers so PS+ NOT required to play. Single player is available but you WILL see other players/teams in your game - Does NOT affect your game but is strange to see for the first few times. They are like ghosts and can't kill your enemies. It is single player but in a multiplayer engine/server. Recommended as it's free anyway.

When Johnny uploads it's always the highlight of my Sunday. There's just no place more wholesome and fun than this on UA-cam, i love all the stories and memories you share Johnny and i don't want to sound rude when i say this next bit (so excuse me) but because you were there in the earlier days of gaming it's so engaging to hear all your stories and memories of gaming back then (also i'd love to see Gord-man on the show again at some point)

The most recent game I just finished was Kena: Bridge of Spirits. Had a lot of fun with it. But it is surprisingly difficult. Personally, I enjoyed it way more when I turned the difficulty down.

I bought it for my girlfriend and she's not good at games and yea I had to set it on the easiest difficulty after a couple of hours. We finished it but I thought it was going to be a easy game 😅
