It was super interesting seeing some of these lower tier athletes from countries which don't yet have longstanding and established weightlifting programs. Of course the weights were low compared to the elite lifters in this category, but they made some really beautiful lifts on an international stage and that was really satisfying to watch!
I agree 100% David. Impressive to see a 44yr old OG pulling 120 kg up an over his head like that (no lift) at 81 kg bodyweight. Seb asks an interesting question about the South African- whether he’s an extremely experienced lifter on the downslope of his career or if he’s a guy who got a late start with OL. As a 65 yr old OG based on my experience I’d say a guy able to do 120-142 at age 44 could have done 140-170 in his 20s. Very respectable.
@JohnDoherty-dl2fz l absolutely agree. This was amazing to watch. And it's also so humbling to see athletes like this who are way down in the professional rankings and yet still way stronger than l ever have been, even at my own peak of fitness.
@@JohnDoherty-dl2fz Yeah, getting Olympics video is few and far between. Which I detest since one used to be able to just watch it on tv for free. Or on cable. Now we have to pay extra for another streaming service? Garbage.
Speaking of which. If Dan WH tech wizard or someone else reads this can you update us on Jr Worlds scenario. Seb had briefly mentioned streaming that comp several months ago and it’s coming up in about 5-6 weeks. A lot of us hard core guys would like to see future stars. Maybe Hampton’s last Jr event.
Feel bad for Ri Chong Song. One of my favorite lifters to watch. He’s so good, but not a lot of competition nor a respected weight class. He’s so shredded so I don’t think 73kg is possible. 89kg might also be out of reach and NK probably has a good 89kg lifter already. So he’s forever stuck here
Jeffrey. All might not be lost for Ri. We don’t yet know what the Olympic categories will be for LA 2028. I hear IWF is asking the IOC for 7 classes like Tokyo. Even if they don’t get them there is the possibility of alternating classes; 2021-81 yes, 89 no. 2024 81 no,89 yes. 2028??? This year’s worlds should be legitimate in 81s as the entire comp is not an OG qualifier and Ri can strut his stuff.
I heard that Rizki Juniansyah gold medalist in 2024 will move to 81 to avoid competition with his teammates Rahmat. I think Rizki will give Ri good competition and left Rahmat to take throne in 73 kg.
Jo Jo. It’s funny that it’s Rizki is moving up in weight because it’s Rahmat who has lifted several times in 81 tho very light about 76. They are both on tall/slim side for weightlifters about 5ft 8/9 in 172-175 cm so either has room to grow. Rahmat already had a great fight with Ri( last years Asians?) the meet where he cleaned 214 weighing 76 kg!
@@JohnDoherty-dl2fz You're right. I don't know for sure, maybe im just wrong about the reason Rizky move up to 81. But it's true that Rizky want to move up 81. His coach already said that.
It's to be expected when half of the categories are non-Olympic categories, especially at an Olympic qualifying event. While the Olympic categories will always be more competitive I expect the differences will be less obvious at the upcoming World Championships which is not an Olympic qualifying event.

Andre WIlliam from South Africa is over 40 y/o, respect !!
King RI!!!
Will there be any videofootage from the Olympics for us that's not paying for the subscription? It's really not the same without your guys commentary
Don’t feel badly. I’ve got a subscription and I’m not seeing it either. The IOC has a monopoly on video and they’re not sharing.

Hey John, Seb here! I'm 90% sure we'll be broadcasting Junior Worlds.
Great Seb Thanx!

North Korea comes out and blasts it by 14kg
it's crazy.. how men's -81 kg lost from men's -73 kg?
