Good to hear from you! I’m hoping to be back for this race, running into nerve issues with my hand so not 100%. I can make this race not having to fill up. One guy I race with has a aftermarket tank. The others don’t and they are super low on fuel but they make it. They always joke if they had to go one more lap they would be pushing the bike. Depending on how fast you’re going you might want to plan to have a tank on pit row. In the pass they let us do a parade lap, which is awesome then you can top off the bike.

Wow this race is crazy. Lol Seeing how many corners everyone blew, knocked down or just ignored is hallarious. But with the dust in someplaces you almost can't find the course at all. Great riding dude.👍

This year they had us zig zagging more because the water level was much higher. Super hard to see with dust in certain places.

That traffic is gnarly to get by in the rocks.

great footage! I like how you passed the build up at 6:24. I found myself working on my brake lever at 15:00 🤣

Hey thanks for watching. Always have to look for ways around the build up. Most of the time it works. See you at the Goldenspike.

Nice high-speed sections were fun. But that rocky bank was a bummer.

That’s was the 3rd time I raced it. Every time we do the same route through the rocky trail. It’s fun and super challenging, those whoops were definitely deeper.

Aloha brother - I've been watching your videos on this event and others you have raced, and enjoy watching them. I am looking for guidance as this year 2023, will be my first race at that venue. I'll be entering the 60+ Masters class and ride a 2022 WR450F, mostly stock including the exhaust. I live in Central Oregon and do a lot of desert riding with occasional single track thrown in for variety. We have a lot of rocks, and sand out here, so that doesn't concern me too much. I'm not new to dirt and have ridden the Oregon BDR, Idaho BDR, WA BDR, CA BDR, and Baja on my KTM 690.
The fuel tank on my WR is stock @ 2.15 gallons, and I'm concerned with the range. I believe my class does 1.5 hours of racing and the course is approximately 10 miles for one loop. Would appreciate any tips you may be willing to share based on your multiple experiences participating in this race. Perhaps we can meet up at the event, and I can officially introduce myself.
BTW.... I hope the nerve issues with your hand has healed up for you.
    Mahalo (Thank you)

Hi there! Thanks for watching and the comment. My guess is you will need to stop for fuel, no worries pit lane is by the start. As for advise if you are using tubes run higher pressure, I use bib moose in the front and tubliss in the rear, use a pair of roll offs. Make sure your bike has current tabs and a spark arrestor, they check. They let us do a parade lap before the race, once you get back you have some time before the race starts. Depending on how the course is laid out (we always go along the freeway and the rock section) if we go close to the water the mud can get DEEP. Since you ride in the desert you will have no problem, I would compare parts of this to Prineville, Oregon and Starvation ridge. I look forward to meeting you.

Thank you brother! Yes, my plan is to run tubliss front and rear, and bring some extra fuel. Thanks for the info. Hop to see ya there!

Hey Cale, looking forward to this race this year. Did your hand heal from Eddieville?
Also, do you have to stop for fuel on your Husky 300? How many laps do you make it on a tank?

    • @Kolsch221

Good to hear from you! I’m hoping to be back for this race, but I’m running into nerve issues with my hand so not 100%. Yes, I can make the race no problem. The guys I race with have TPI bikes and they can also make it. But if they would have to do another lap they joke about having to push the bikes back. If you have a heavy throttle I would say to have a tank waiting for you on pit row. Usually do about 4 laps. I would guess one lap is anywhere from 7-11 miles. In the pass they let us do a parade lap not very fast following someone. Then you go back to your pits top off the bike then head to the line. Also make sure you have current tabs and a spark arrestor. They check both.

Sorry to hear about your hand that’s a bummer.
Yeah, at a 10 mile course in some sand it would be really tight on 4 laps. I tried once before this season and had about enough fuel to make one more corner on another lap. Not worth it. Probably just plan on fueling like usual after 3 laps. Just in case it stretches for that extra one. Thanks!
