I wonder if anybody remembers the replay bug in TOCA 2 if i recall. You'd watch the replay of your race and after a while, your car will start doing things you didn't do in the race, such as crash into barriers and get stuck...
Been driving this track for 2 decades and finally had the chance to drive it in real life, yet no amount of gaming could prepare me for the undulation as you get to the bottom of Paddock Hill! Insane elevation.
We went to watch the BTCC at Brands last week, really surprised by the gradient out of Paddock then the steep incline into the hairpin. Great track, great atmosphere, great racing, will definitely be going next year.
I like how the trees got bigger over time across the different game series, it puts into perspective the passage of time between the games and them trying to portray the track at the time of each game's release
No amount of time spent on TOCA prepared me for riding around brands hatch in the flesh. The transition from the top of paddock hill to the point where you're fully back on throttle eying up the braking point for druids, I felt like my stomach was falling out through my arsehole.
Oh! The start of the video just jumped me into my teens when I was playing TOCA ALLLLLL the time. Such a fun game. Watching it on Europsport and then playing it on the PC.
It's honestly unbelievable how much video game graphics progressed from 1999-2000, to 2009-2010. Just 10 years and we went from toca2 ps1 graphics where cars were made up of like 20 polygons and felt glued to the road, to need for speed shift hd graphics, baked normal maps, real time lighting/weather, realistic physics.. etc. Just astounding.
Never in my life would I have thought that I could see a video mentioning TOCA and TOCA 2! Super happy to see that I was not the only one to spend HOURS on these games haha, both were effing brilliant!
@@hgaberacing Do you mean Toca Race Driver 1-2? Always say Race Driver if you mean the Race Driver games. Toca 1-2 are different games, which are from the 90s. Those might be tough on modern systems indeed. But the Race Driver games are all working for me. Just make sure that you don't install a version of Race Driver 2-3 with the StarForce DRM. This DRM causes huge issues on modern systems. And I installed Race Driver 1-2 from original discs, so unfortunately I can't help with finding working versions of them online. For Race Driver 2 I got a disc version from Italy with the "FX Interactive" label. This version doesn't have StarForce. www.ebay.it/itm/315735339838
What a cool video! Congratulations! I played several, such as: TOCA 1, TOCA 2, GT1, GT2, RACEROOM, Race07, rFactor01, rFactor2, Automobilista 1, Automobilista 2 e Iracing!
A great corner and one where I drove a Ford Fiesta(in wet conditions) backwards in to the gravel at the bottom of the hill. After being towed out, I drove a Formula Ford for some laps, and boy did I learn quickly to take a better line through Paddock
I used to play Toca 1 & 2 through the 90's. Absolutely loved them! Spent hundreds of hours playing them It's criminal that they haven't got a Toca game out for ps5.
@@Stimpy084 I see. The Project Cars games have most of the British tracks. Brands Hatch, Cadwell Park, Donington, Knockhill, Oulton Park, Silverstone, Snetterton. They don't have BTCC cars though.
Majority of the games upto shift 2 had really good speedo hud, very interesting and nice to look at. Every newer game is just boring looking. Thin little bar is your revs.
TOCA the gold standard of driving games. sorry to break it to you kids but if you aint played TOCA and on max level and got a pole or a race win, dont even start saying you are great at gaming that shit was EVIL at times just like the real world racing it was
TOCA and TOCA 2 are awesome. The Nissan was the fastest lol. Haven’t fired it up (on the PS1!) in about 20years! This vid has inspired me. I loved Codemasters’ conscious decision to bring the surrounding scenery (buildings, trees, etc.) closer to the track in TOCA 2 to help with the perception of speed (and general interest). 😎
TOCA games be like: Marty: Doc, we don’t have racing line to get up to 88. Doc: Racing line? Well, we are going we don’t need racing line. (No offense. 😁 BTW, great comparison!)
Great vid. Toca Race Driver 3 still looks fantastic after all these years. They really refined the previous games brilliantly with that entry. Grid Autosport from 2014 looks better than the yucky visuals in Grid Legends 2022. Racing games have, in general, gone backwards in recent years. Take Colin McRae Dirt 2 and PG4 compared to modern arcade style racers and - Driveclub aside - there's no comparison at all.
The PC exclusive games are graphically woeful (Raceroom, Automobilista, iRacing, Rfactor2 etc). iRacing in particular was particularly poor graphically when it was released and is still rocking it's antiquated engine over 15 years later! GT7 easily the best looker of these games with ACC coming in 2nd.
With titles such as iRacing etc. It might be prudent to date them as the track scan date... Seems odd putting a track in iRacing that's recent such as Nordschleife as 2008 when it came to iRacing circa 2016 iirc. I believe the Brands Hatch scan for iRacing is circa 2010.
I always wanted to win the championship in an Audi but could never do it.. also the 2x player championship mode was fucking class.. me and bro would play the game for hours holding the grid up so the other could catch up 😅
TOCA and TOCA 2 were absolutely incredible games in their day, I played them for countless hours
Some much nostalgia seeing them, good times.
I played Toca race driver 3 first
I wonder if anybody remembers the replay bug in TOCA 2 if i recall. You'd watch the replay of your race and after a while, your car will start doing things you didn't do in the race, such as crash into barriers and get stuck...
Great fun at the time but incredibly unrealistic if you're looking for a sim experience.

Nice!! That's really exciting! Nothing can compare to the physical sensation.
Agreed - I did it over 25 years ago and Paddock felt like a rollercoaster, I still remember my stomach dropping!

What about how the first corner banks
Must feel cool to experience going from gaming to real life on a track
I loved playing Toca as a kid. Core memory unlocked
TOCA was a game changer in 97. Nothing else like it.
I like how the trees got bigger over time across the different game series, it puts into perspective the passage of time between the games and them trying to portray the track at the time of each game's release
kinda wild how some of the engine sounds from the games that are 20+ years old sound better than games that came out in the past five years
Also wild how the two biggest flagship racing series, Forza and GT, have worse engine sounds than the more niche sim racing titles
Had exactly same feeling when I looked at the video, it's clearly going backward or at least it sounds like that :/
From these 5 Years, i only like the sounds of ACC (13:31) and Automobilista 2 (14:33) in overhaul they are fantastic.
not just the sound, this blurry mess of forza 8 looks so god dam awful. truly a fitting example for modern devolution of videogames
That's exactly was I was thinking!
Toca was the one 😊
This just unlocked a memory
TOCA had so many cheat codes. You could unlock a tank 😂
Toca 2 what a memory... I must have been 6 or 7 years old... And the WTCC with Yvan Muller.. BRO thank you man
No amount of time spent on TOCA prepared me for riding around brands hatch in the flesh.
The transition from the top of paddock hill to the point where you're fully back on throttle eying up the braking point for druids, I felt like my stomach was falling out through my arsehole.

Not just that. Look how much the early TOCA games improved graphically on the same system(PS1) withing just a couple of years.
Wow, haven't seen a video of Toca touring cars the 1997 one since I last played it nearly 30 years ago 🙈 loved that game

TOCA 97 still very challenging game if you like British Touring Car Racing
Fckn is ... plenty of joy playing it on ps1
Grid Autosport with the widest version of Brands I’ve ever seen🤣
The track seems to get wider (and the car smaller) the faster you go
Race 07/Race Pro had the worse version of Paddock Hill Bend of any video game. Literally zero elevation change
wasn't that bad, they were scanned to the track at the time.
"Literally zero" when there is quite a lot
@@vycanismelodis Very little elevation change compared to the real track.
@@SVPSkins What do you mean by scanned to the track?
look at how much difference there is between all 3 race driver games and that turned into the company that didnt update Spa for 10 years.
The 2006 version went back in time for their Graham Hill Bend
men toca was my first addicted game so nostalgic
4:24 geez man, the reflective sun glare affecting the color of the tread marks...
ToCA: Race Driver!
I'd be happy if it ran on Win11. Still a huge game to this day.
Great video. Thanks for that. :)
I am running all of them on Windows 10, so maybe they will run on 11 as well.
sadly our hero Ryan become villain in Grid Legends

A good blend of arcade/sim that was alot of fun.

That TOCA experience from the PSX was something else, so clunky, too much steer you lose the car, not enough steer and welcome to the gravel pit 😂
Saw the thumbnail and realised it was TOCA and had to click
The crazy thing is how much better engine and gearboxes sounds older games had...they no longer make an effort except for a few rare games
TOCA was such a top series
best camera view in all forza games
Bro is it just me or is the sound of the A4 better in TOCA2 then in Grid Autosport?! It sounds so gooood
In fairness though the sounds in auto sport are absolute fucking incredible
This track on super bikes is fab .. tbh one of my favourite tracks in the world ..
Too bad Race Driver: GRID doesn't have Brands Hatch carried over from the TOCA series.
TOCA were amazing games for their time. Possibly my favourite race games.
With the PC version of Toca 2 there’s glitch which make you spin every time you take the inside of Paddock Hill bend
The shift games had mega sense of speed
Every time I see the jump in quality from ps1 to ps2 it surprises me
