  • Angie Kim discusses her novel, "Miracle Creek", at Politics and Prose.
In her debut novel, Kim has transmuted her personal background and professional experience as a trial lawyer into a powerful fiction that’s equal parts courtroom thriller and family drama. At the center of the story are Young and Pak Yoo. Parents of an autistic child, they’ve developed the experimental Miracle Submarine to provide treatment for a variety of malaises. Then the Submarine explodes, killing two people and launching an investigation that’s no less explosive. It seems that everyone involved has a secret and a possible motive for destroying the therapeutic center. As the various betrayals, rivalries, and recriminations emerge, the novel profoundly explores questions surrounding how we raise our children and the lengths we can-or should-go to protect loved ones.
Kim is in conversation with her publisher Sarah Crichton and literary agent Susan Golomb.
