HTTYD2 - Flying with Mother - John Powell - Score Arr. by William Maytook

- Here’s my arrangement for John Powell’s legendary "Flying with Mother" music. I want to clarify that I did not use the ScoreBook of HTTYD2 released recently for this project, I transcribed everything by ear while helping me from what I could find on the internet (including a video by John)! Some details are missing, like some nuances by moment and also the end, which I did not necessarily find essential since it is the study of orchestration that matters here !
Since some of the people who listen to my music are greatly interested in John’s work (greeting to @FilmScoreandMore ) I thought it might be a great idea to share this work with you !

listening...just want to move, to dance, to fly, to live that's all: life above all! Thank you for making me feel alive!🙏🏻
And thank you for your beautiful compliments !
Great music William.
An exhilarating breath of spirited joy.
Thank you very much for your very poetic compliments! Your comment has the same effect on me!
Literally, all httyd wants to make my body abandon gravity. Also, you have done this by ear, props to you!
It's so great to see you here Phantom ! Thank you so much for your compliment, John's video had been a great help for this arrangement too !
Great work on this, and thanks for the shoutout! It's interesting to compare what you have to the scorebook now that it's out; even if it's not 1:1 you still got the right effect of it. And you definitely got the "bum bum" right in the choir; that looks exactly like it does in the book. I'm impressed at your arranging skills, and I'm glad you used the video on John Powell's channel for reference. Also, my Legend Has It/Cliffside Playtime analysis using your transcription is very close to being finished! I'm doing one on Flying With Mother after that, so I'll be sure to give this video a shoutout!
Thank you so much for your great comment and your compliments, I knew you'd be interested in this video ! I know it's a little difficult to read music on UA-cam, but I can send you the score and some others interesting things if you want after I finished all the analysis I've done on this piece !
It's great to know I had some things right, I know some details aren't in the score, like the tenor and bass choir at the end, some percussions or part of the electric bass, but I was stunned by the beautiful writing for strings by John, I knew he played violin and viola, but still, it's amazing ! And I'm also very impressed by his use of orchestration, it's simple but so effective in the way he uses it with modulations !
I can't wait to see your work on Legend Has It/Cliffside Playtime, it's always a great privilege to learn from others, and I'm sure it will be amazing !
Thank you again for your comment, it's so great to be able to talk about that kind of musical style with you !
@@WilliamMaytook Of course! Thanks for offering the score like last time, but I plan to mock up the cue based on the scorebook and show that on screen (and recommend your version to those who don’t have it). I think you did pretty well considering John Powell’s video covers what I consider some of the hardest and most important parts.
@@FilmScoreandMore Oh yeah ! I think it's very great idea, I would be very curious about the result of it ! Thanks again, it’s true that John's video showed the really essential passages like the strings divisi, even if the writing of some sections like the woodwinds for example is really interesting to study in relief with the rest !
Good luck with the work !
@@WilliamMaytook Thanks! I’ll let you know when the video is done. The details can be a bit frustrating sometimes, but it’s really close.
What work, it's magnificent, chiseled, light and wonderful
Thank you very much for your beautiful compliments !
You embody a beautiful spirit. Thank you for sharing your gift. ❤️🔥
Please bring the score a little nearer next time William . I like to read scores . Thank you.
Thanks for the advice, I try the best I can, unfortunately it's not easy for orchestral scores !
@@WilliamMaytook I understand
I am just a score reading geek.
