I won’t necessarily say “in defense” of the more plain backgrounds, but there are different aspects artists consider when making cover art. One is plainly just how it looks as art when you look at it up close. Having a lot of the space filled with something interesting is important. But also another aspect is how it looks from far away. When you’re in the store and you spot it on the completely other side of the room. Having a certain area of the art that is more plain than the rest kinda makes you notice it more (like Super Mario 3D Land / World’s white section, or even Odyssey’s bottom section which is just plain red.) The plain color kinda makes the central art pop out in the crowd of other covers, like giving that art its own personal backdrop. Obviously you can kinda OVERdo it like with many Mario & Luigi games, but if just the top or bottom is more plain, it isn’t necessarily bad. (At least in terms of its use as a box art, that being marketing) It’s less interesting as art, but tactically it has its purpose. I understand this is mostly about your opinion on the art itself tho, so that’s fair.
I’m ngl for some reason I really like the simplicity of Mario lost levels, like just the character in of itself is enough to sell the game to you. I’m also a fan of 2d art on boxes. It’s a shame hes drawn a bit weird on it though so it ain’t a winner for me either
Yknow, I actually really like that Mario Party 9 boxart. I know it's too much, but I think it's just enough too much that the whole thing somehow feels unified. The whole thing looks almost watercolour-ish, and I love it for that. Those colours are VERY nice
There’s nothing necessarily “wrong” with the white background box arts, some may like them which is totally fine. I just personally find them to typically look more monotonous compared to one another and lack the personality that a lot of the other box arts have.
Apologies in advance for any games that were left off on here, I tried to be as comprehensive as possible but yeah
23:40 Does Mayro not know about people saying ‘And How!’
I guess it’s kind of slang but, I never thought someone wouldn’t have heard that
I also have not heard of that, what is that?
It’s just a slang term used to show strong agreement
@@septupleanti742 ah
5:11 Mario’s face is so puffy and round it looks like he ate a bee 💀💀
😭
Who came here from Mayro’s community post?
I did
Most people, probably. Me included
Wait why is this guy goated tho
the Mario Clash design makes sense, the mario text is smaller to represent the depth offered by the 3D capabilities of the console
As someone who spends way too much time looking at posters/boxarts, I really appreciate this
Some box arts are pretty elaborate and detailed, then you get the orginal. Mario next to some blocks and lava (provided being simple was the point)
you are a commenter i see

37:39 this part made me laugh.
1:13 that’s someone’s fanart of the Brothership boxart
Oh thank you for pointing that out! I just assumed it was an official render of the box art since it looks very similar.
Idk why but something just makes me love the mp9 boxart😂❤
this is so underrated
Aye thank you!
Mrdean with another upload!!! 🎉

W collaboration!
Completely agree with the top 5 and the number 1 spot. Odyessy’s art is just perfect with its style and encapsulates the whole game. Chef’s kiss.
Superstar Baseball honestly goes hard.

I love this, super creative

Woah sick collab

Can't believe you forgot Mario Kart Home Live Circuit SMH my head
NOOOOOOOO I KNEW I WAS GOING TO FORGET SOMETHING 💀
Hard disagree with u on the Mario party 8 cover. IMO it’s the best looking game cover in the Mario Party Series. Overwise loved the video!
Thank you!
And definitely fair enough, it looks different than most of the other Mario Party covers and has its own identity.
#106 has me dying over here lmao
Justice for all Daisy fans 🤕
what's wrong with white backrounds on mario box arts

why does everyone hate mario rpg for swich's box art
