I have used Dragon Skin silicone for other mold projects and found it to be really amazing. It is easy to use and replicates the finest detail. And it releases resin castings effortlessly. I really appreciate the idea here though as I have an aquarium and have wondered if its a good idea to make my own features. My local pet store does not have the type of features I would like to have on display. Its reassuring to know that these products will not harm my fish! Thanks smooth-on!
Ecoflex 00-30 may not be the best choice for this kind of mold because of its relatively low tear strength in comparison to other options like Dragon Skin 10 or Mold Star 15. There should be no reason to prepare the surface of a sponge like this with an alcohol/dishwasher detergent. In that video, this solution is used to release cast silicone from the silicone mold. In this case, the sponge requires no release agent.
what about resin degassing? I use another resin to cast fantasy miniatures, but it produces lot of bubbles so often they comes out without fingers or with holes :(
Smooth-On, Inc it would also need a support shell, so you'd have to factor in the cost of the resin and fibreglass, but I still think it'd be better than making a giant block mould.

Its really interesting to see the final casting produce such high detail.

I’ve just been to your website to find the plastic you used. I was a bit overwhelmed. Can you point me in the right direction please❤️🇦🇺

it really does look like a sponge!
What does the vacuum do and where would you buy one? Thanks!

Super, ses trop trop bien, dommage que je ne trouve pas de vidéo en français lol.
Could a glove mould have been made instead? I find that block moulds tend to waste A LOT of material.
Certainly! A brush on mold made using Rebound 25 would indeed use less material in general. It would take a bit longer to make.

I would put a air stone in the bottom of the rock
After all the costs of the materials better off just purchasing off the shelf finished product. Any good pet shop.
Is it worth all that messing about? I doubt it!
