This game was on June 23rd, it ended around 11pm. I was so excited to start the night because my 21st birthday was the next day, which meant I was planning to go out to the bar in Ann Arbor with friends at midnight. Would've been so cool to celebrate my 21st with everyone celebrating a Pistons championship. Instead, the bars were empty and people were bummed. We still had a good night though
Say whatever you wanna say but Robert Horry is one of the clutches player of all time, he may not be be on an all-star level but he has contributed to all the rings he's got. In my opinion he deserves to be in the HOF.
Some important observations I made is that Robert Horry what's the most important player in the 4th quarter and overtime. Rasheed Wallace could have gotten a technical for calling a time out with no timeouts left, if you want to get picky. You can make it good argument that Rip Hamilton was fouled in the last seconds of overtime and should have gotten 2 free throws the ending of game is very similar to game 6 of the 2013 NBA finals.
I must be feeling really masochistic today, watching this. It still hurts my heart to this day, seeing this ending. The Pistons went and won the very next game in San Antonio, and should have been back to back champions, for the second time in franchise history. I’ll never know what Rasheed was thinking about there. He made two mistakes on that play. The first, was not being right up on Horry, trying to make the inbounds pass more difficult, and the second was leaving him wide, open to shoot, after he passed it in. At that point in his career, Horry was already famous for making clutch shots. His nickname was Big Shot Bob for crying out loud! He was the last guy you wanted taking an uncontested shot and that situation. I was sooooo mad at Sheed. I still get a little salty even now, when I think about it. The next season, they had an even better year, but I think not having Larry Brown coaching them anymore is part of what was eventually their downfall in the playoffs. What could have, and should have been. Oh well.
@@chrisuncleahmad666 You're probably right. I guess I'm just biased because I'm a Spurs fan and that series took about 10 years off of my life. I still liked this better than those early-to-mid 2000s Kings and Mavericks or Lakers and Suns series where nobody played any defense whatsoever.

Stopping Rip was the key, since he was Detroit's most consistent player year after year in the playoffs.
@@123slasher.16 MVP is a stretch but Bowen was a weapon. The irony is in this game Billups was tearing up the Spurs defense that Bowen had to leave Rip for Billups. Parker, to his credit, checked Hamilton's physicality the best he could.
I miss this kind of basketball
Life long spurs fan here. Every spurs fan memory of this game was just “Robert Horry”.
Thanks big shot bob
Big shot Rob buddy ✌️
Pistons were 8-2 all-time in NBA Finals games at the Palace - and both losses were by 1 point in overtime.
Omfg Robert Horry. That dunk too jesus my mans was a beast
Insane if you look at his missed game 5 3-pointer vs the spurs and lakers in 2003, it’s exactly the same but he made it this time!
As a Pistons fan this was painful. What a match up with these two teams though.
What a terrible matchup
This series proved that 2004 Title was a fluke
From Detroit but gotta give credit. This spurs team is amazing. Especially robert horry. Champs baby!
This game was on June 19th...my 20th birthday....I was there.....horrible birthday present
wow! By just listening to your comment really makes me think it was a great day!
and nice pic👍😎
8:25 RASHEED WALLACE, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING 💭
One of the greatest defensive NBA Finals
And one of the worst offensive NBA Finals. 7 games of Rugby disguised as basketball.
Oh well.
Sheed was notorious for taking unwanted threes to he was much better in the post he cost us this series no doubt smh
Man this one really stung as a Pistons fan. You don't leave Horry open under any circumstances. Ever.
He almost did it again in 03 too...horry man was too clutch
mann Ever !!!!
Robert Horry earned his rings. #HOF. He made it when it mattered. Every playoff game mattered and he won it for the teams he played for.
This is the year i started watching basketball, i was 9 at that time. I really love this era.
Todays game, that last play to hamilton would’ve been called a foul. Easily. Man this was NBA basketball. It’s a crime what it’s become. Smh.
big shot bob… one of the most underrated players of all time and a true ring collector. hope to him in the hall of fame
man the NBA was so damn good back then!! seesh.
Yeah right. I stopped watching the NBA for years after this Finals.
This was a defensive, fundamental and physical series ... Robert Horry became the first player to win championships with 3 different teams ....
Nah it was just bad offense. It's never crappy offense but rather defensive.
@@chrisuncleahmad666 It was bad offense because these were the two best defenses in the regular season AND in the playoffs.
@@akbarshabazz-jenkins7847 and it turned the beautiful gane into an unwatchable rugby scrum
Robert horry dunk was ridiculous
This was a underrated finals. Definitely the best one from 2000-2009
Boston vs Lakers 2008?
Yeah ur bugging, the 2008 Finals was a PERFECT matchup and series
Of course. It's the only one that went 7 games
@@cactusjack2264 are you seriously telling me 2008 was more competitive than this? Seriously. 2008 had more star power. This one was a real chess match.
@@donovanjohnson4279 how was 2008 more competitive than this one.
Man I remember this finals, and 06 07 n 08 spurs were awsome but my favourite was pistons especially this era pistons, can’t be replaced
Rasheed Wallace was awful defensively here late. Just kept leaving Robert Horry.
And then Rasheed Wallace said Lebron cant guard him during his prime lol
@@DotaRecap 😐
If they had corliss out there instead he wouldn't have made those mistakes...
Most underrated and disrespect team of All-time. Piston team went to 6 straight ECF appearances and 2 straight NBA Finals from 2002-2008. Imo best Eastern Conference team of the 2000s. They had a way better and dominant run than 08 Celtics. They were able to knock off Shaq & Kobe and Shaq & Dwade in back-to-back years. Yes they only have 1 ring but they're were just as consistent if not more consistent than so many more teams in the 2000s.
You can see the difference of the playoffs of modern NBA than old school NBA specially for defense..
Also their offense is kinda meh.
@@ronmix1063 oh yeah, 3pt shooting contests are so fun to watch.....
@@greenderp and barely scoring 81 points in a game 7 is fun to watch?
@@chrisuncleahmad666 yeah, game 7 in 2016 where warriors became the first team to choke a 3-1 finals lead was 93-89 and was a great game to watch 🤣
Horrry man they say is overrated but that guy hit so many huge shots wherever he went. I don't know a play that hit so many big shots. He was a very good player who probably could been all-star in his prime but just played his role
Tim Duncan really missed 7 free throws and the Spurs still won by one! Not to mention, he was also the reason the game went into OT in the first place. 😂
Fr man and he usually made them under pressure. Crazy tbh 😂
Yeah that shit don't get talked about enough lol
Duncan averaged 20 and 14 against the grittiest front-court of the era
Go Spurs Go!!!!! Jalen Rose Voice, BIG SHOT Rob with 7 Rings!!!.
Wow didn’t remember Duncan chocking that hard that game.
Lol let me find out Duncan was overrated...with them big ahs shorts and long tube socks
Duncan got a lot of choke jobs and under performances tbh
@@killermockers47 lmaooooo no he doesn't. Clown shoes comment. Hardest series Tim ever played going against both Wallaces and McDyess off the bench. Defensive and rebound monsters. Dude was gassed and fighting for everything in both ends. Gi watch basketball and know what youre talking about. 🤡
@@milosmitic2071 he's literally underrated bruh. You realize people think kobe was better than him? this is one bad performance he was already clutch
He wasn't choking he was just exhausted
8:25 Robert "Will Smith" Horry with the dagger three 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
If these teams played a 7-game series multiple times, each would trade 4-3's. That's how even the match up was.
Pistons really messed up in free agency in 04 letting mike okur and corliss go...should of kept one of the big men because my god elden was getting old and hunter was small for a sg without pg skills...and the lineup of corliss ben and okur was very good on d during the 04 playoffs
Damn, Big Shot Bob always coming up for these kinds of moments.
We need more of this era’s highlights in HD 😞
the most underrated thing about the game is Parker's defense on Hamilton on the last play. the dude is doing an armless hug on him
You can see how Duncan struggled in his free throw shooting until 2007 and onward, his shot improved. Chip Engelland had a lot to do with that.
These kids don't understand that a 7-footer in 2005 missing free throws was not the end of the world.
i love the video quality, the graphics, everything
The dunk by Robert horry 🔥
Wooo the air went right out of the building when the overtime buzzer buzzed. 🥶
Man I miss the piston’s
I miss the Spurs! Lol
Don’t worry bro they’ll be back in a few years
Idk if the pistons will be the same defensive powerhouse tho
That Detroit team was and still is the hardest team I'd ever seen the Spurs play. It was literally the past two champions facing each other for the '05 finals and it goes the distance...it doesn't get any better.
Big shot BOB!
I was only 15 during this NBA Finals😁it was also the time I started idolizing the playing style of Richard Hamilton. Since then, I wore jersey no. 32😊
Duncan had it rough but that rebound and time-out was clutch 8:10
3 missed FTs, missed putback to win, TO in OT.. I forgot how ugly this series looked for TD when it got rough.
@@jmr3178 That's revisionist. Duncan averaged 20 and 14 against the grittiest front-court of the era and hit his free throws in Game 7, where he was involved in all the closeout plays to pull out the championship.
I could listen to Hubie Brown call my man's shot all day long... He already knew..
This is why Robert Horry has 7 titles
He's not a great player,or an all star or all NBA. He's just clutch, if it was a category for it he would be top 3 all time.
@Manny-nm8dh and that proves that clutch win championships
A true thing of beauty in basketball.
Big Shot Bob!!!
8:54PM EST 6/18/22
I miss tis team almost as much as The Bad Boys!! lived in Missouri during this winning season and the NBA wasn't a priority..still isn't. This is the first time I've seen this footage Thanks for the share!!!
I was amazed at how poorly Tim Duncan played down the stretch in that crucial game 5. Chauncey could have sealed it for Detroit but missed a couple of (contested) layups.
Champion vs champion. Damn shame we didn't get at least one more Finals matchup with these two
To this day, the best NBA finals ever in terms of basketball quality.
2016 series with GSW and CAVS was pretty solid
And 2013 and 2014
This series was hardly the best NBA Finals in terms of basketball quality.
There was too many low scoring games this series.
For my money, nothing compares to the 1977 Portland/Philly Finals when the Sixers and their talent walked over Portland the first 2 games only to lose the next 4 when Portland ran a clinic on ball movement and the Sixers looked like a high school all Star team that played individual basketball.
I watched 2 greats in that era (George McGinnis and Doug Collins) look like pure scrubs getting schooled on the court.
@rohanpogii that's why your statement was laughable.
@@123slasher.16 I don’t think it matter how high the scores were as long as efficient basketball was played but 77 was an entertaining finals
One of the greatest finals game in history, Big Shot Bob really was the Xfactor
his houston shots, lakers( my fav) this shot!! he was never afaird of a big moment!!
underrated series
And that is why Robert Horry has 7 rings
I forgot how many amazing players were on these two teams.
yea i love basketball!! but i was a teen during these times.. loved basketball so damn much!! so many great teams, these 2 included
This game made 8th grade me cry, why leave Horry sheed 😭😭😭
