Thank you for the great review - this helped so much. We LOVED book 1 but I wasn’t sure we’d need book 2. After watching this I knew we needed it. ❤ Thanks!!
I have enjoyed this curriculum as much as the kids have. My 5th grader finished the last chapter of book two this year and my 3rd grader is halfway through book 2 now. We’ve just taken everything at their pace and I can’t even tell you how much it’s helped them both. I wish I’d found it sooner, but I’m also thankful to have found it at all. I hope y’all enjoy going thru it together.
I plan to do an update on Book One soon and as soon as we finish with Book Two (or get far enough into it to discuss it) I’ll post an update on that one too. We really love both of these books. I wish I’d found them earlier for my oldest, but he’s made such great progress since starting book 2 last year. The newest edition is a lot more comprehensive but I really love that I don’t need any extra readers or loose pieces to help him build his fluency. Makes it so simple!
I just ordered Foundational Phonics Letter Mastery 3rd edition. I haven’t received it yet, but I did receive book 2 (word mastery) & if book 1 is anything like I’m seeing from book 2 then I’m totally excited!!! I think this will be a relief from trying to juggle AAR (All About Reading) materials and be more enjoyable and effective for both my boys and myself. Praying this be the case. I’ll start book 2 tomorrow with my oldest 😊
If you love Word Mastery, then Letter Mastery will be a hit too. It’s even more comprehensive so you know you’re covering everything you should, but it’s laid out so simply and easy for the mother (or parent) as well. We love it!
We’re continuing with many of the same resources we’ve always used: Foundational Phonics (phonics for one child, going back thru it for spelling for another), Cottage Press Language Lessons, trying MCP Mathematics this year, and lots of reading great books for history, science, composer & artist studies. Thanks for watching and commenting. ❤️
Which McGuffey and Treadwell readers go well with these books? Thank you for such a thorough review. This looks like a perfect blend of CM and phonics instruction!
We’ve only used the McGuffeys Original First Reader & the Treadwell Primer as extra practice when needed. Honestly, the new edition has all the reading selections you need for the lesson, so unless your child just wants extra practice or you feel they need more, you don’t need a separate reader at all. We just used them for fun. We absolutely love FP! I’m going to go back thru it for intentional spelling practice & grammar as well. I hope to share soon how we’ll do that.
*NOTE*: I mentioned that the letters aren’t taught in alphabetical order. They are taught in a way to achieve quick success with reading. The first letters taught are “m”, “a”, and “n”. This allows students to begin building words right away.
Hi! I don't know if you have seen From Phonics To Reading level A by Sadlier? I my kindergatener is a fluent reader but I think he needs help spelling like diagraphs, double consonants, er, ur, ar, ir ect... like he can read stripe, three, water, cloud, diplomat, suddenly, valuable, judicial, beneficial and so many long words but when it come to spelling he would for example write watr, thri, clowd, Wonder which one would be good for him.
I’m not familiar with the curriculum you mentioned, but book two is aptly named Word Mastery, so I’d suggest that one. :) We plan to go back thru it for spelling and grammar practice as well once we have finished it for the phonics patterns. Hope that helps!
@@ThisEnchantedHour Oh, thank you so much! How would you use it for grammar and spelling? Phonics to Reading needs the teachers guide and workbook, looks confusing for me that I am not a teachers but seems a good program but it does add up $$. I stumble on your video and loved how this is laid out. I started doing the McGuffey readers and I think this would be a good match.
@@karinapantoja721 it’s definitely hard to find things that make it simple and easy to teach. I plan to do a video very soon showing how I plan to use it for spelling and grammar. The first book teaches the asl alphabet as a way to practice the letters so we’re going to incorporate that into spelling practice as well. These books are both so easy to adapt to anything related to language that you could use them lots of ways. Book Two works really well with McGuffey’s readers, but I also love that the newest edition of book two has all the reading selections in the lesson. No need to have a separate reader unless you just want more practice. :)
I don’t have an exact date, but it’s in the final draft stages right now. She said the best way to stay informed is to follow on Facebook or Instagram. From what she said the changes to book one are minor. If it’s book two you need, the current edition is wonderful, but I think the changes are probably worth waiting for if you can. ❤️
I have used this curriculum with both of my children and it's the best.
I’m so glad it worked well for you. ❤️ It’s been such a blessing for our homeschool.

So glad that it was helpful to see it. ❤️ We very much needed both books for my kids even though we came into it later than most.
This looks so great, thank you for sharing. I think you just convinced me to use for my kindergartener

We LOVE Foundational Phonics! Excellent review!
I wish I’d found it sooner. We absolutely love it and the kids have learned so much!
This looks so good!
We’ve really enjoyed both books and my kids have made leaps and bounds in reading since we started these.
Thank you!
I just purchased Book 2 for my daughter. I would love to see an update video!
