Loving Marjorie Beebe everyday....God knows Ive known the name for decades but was unfamiliar with her Sennett shorts. Great comedian in the Martha Raye vein with a hint of Eve Arden. These comedies are pretty racy too. So thanks for uploading these very rare Sennett 2-reel shorts.
Like 93 years back, till tomorrow on. See girl's, if you're not gonna watch your figure, no one else will😉!!! That message, is timeless. Loved the ending, when not only the 4th wall came down, but the interaction, with the director☺️🎬!!! Never seen, THAT before.
In 1930, the poverty rate (in the U.S.) was 45% while unemployment was at 8.7% and increasing exponentially in the ensuing years.....given these statistics, imagine watching this "short" and seeing the humor in it. Just a personal observation....that's all.
Not that tired narrative again! With 8.7% unemployment, the majority of Americans WERE employed. In 1930 my Grandparents bought a new Buick and kept a 2 car household. Not millionaires. Simply middle class business people. My Grandmother was the head of the Business And Professional Woman's organization. So yes, they never lived on a single income, and again contrary to the narrative, many many women were professionals and had careers. The reality was much more balanced than that tired narrative tells the public of today!
The Great Depression kicked in while Herbert Hoover was President. An awful lot of people were out of work, and Hoover grumbled, “All a man has to do is roll up his sleeves and go to work.” Mighty hard to do when jobs were disappearing right and left. Herbert Hoover was way out of touch. No wonder that lovable Democrat Franklin Delano Roosevelt aced the 1932 Presidential election.
Too bad there wasn't a sequel which takes place a year later.Madge is nearly a fat as her mother who has added a few more pounds.George no longer plays tennis but now has a potbelly that he is amused with.they have invited over Mr & Mrs Gilmore who they haven't seen in a year.Mr Gilmore looks the same but Mrs Gilmore has definitely ditched her diet.Madge is shocked and struggles for words "Mrs Gilmore you are are" FAT my dear Mrs Gilmore replies.and she gives her fat belly an affectionate pat.she has put on 40 pounds!
Damn.... Love the Ending. Andy Clyde WOW !!!! THANK YOU

Lol, the title took me out! 🤣
I'm impressed by the quality and clarity of this print. For 1930 it's really good.
From the same era that gave us the song, "Keep Young and Beautiful."
Another Marjorie Beebe great comic performance.
I want pancakes and sausage!!
What the WHAT?!? 😄
What? Were they allowed to say damn on screen in 1930? Was that still acceptable in pre-code days?
Yes, wasn't that wonderful😊???
Television didn't exist in 1930. The title card was added 20 years later when it was aired on TV.
