    I can't help getting the image in my head of an old dog who maybe isn't so spry anymore getting to run around in the snow and have a good time. The Blazer looked like it was having the time of its life. Good on you for letting them have fun. ^_^

      Couldn't agree more. Watching the ol' gal run in that snow reminds me of my 13 year old husky Panda. She's a bit wore down, but as soon as the first snowflake falls, she's as spry as she was as a pup.

    I discovered your channel by accident. We watched the 91 Firebird videos and then binge watched the Blazer videos. I used to have a Firebird Formula similar to the one you have and that got my attention. Hope to see more Firebird videos in the future. The Blazer videos got us hooked. I'm not a particularly big fan of the S-10 Blazers, but watching you rebuild this one had us very intrigued. Hundreds of rebuild channels out there, but I haven't seen anyone work as meticulously as you do. Not only that, you do a great job of explaining what you are doing and why. I used to work in a machine shop after school when I was a kid. (back in the Flintstones days) I've never rebuilt engines, but have seen plenty of them built. My job was teardowns, sorting parts, prepping, vatting the block and heads and getting them ready for building. Oh, and sweeping the floors. I'm an old dude, and I still learned so much watching you do that 350 for the Blazer. Even the wife was fascinated watching. I have never seen anyone rebuild an engine like you did without the benefit of a machine shop. Some of your methods and fixes are quite ingenious. And all of it within a reasonable or shoestring budget. I'm somewhat of a traditionalist, and I'd love to see the Blazer get a proper paint job and a restored interior, but I also understand budgetary constraints. You got a really decent daily driver and a fun vehicle. I'm in Florida, so I don't have a lot of opportunity to do snow sliding here, but it was fun to watch. I have s show car that I compete with (it actually came from Baltimore) but no snow sliding with it. Your on-screen presence is great, so keep up the good work and we'll be looking for more Firebird or Blazer videos. We'll check out your others, too.

    Hey man, this will probably get lost in the comments but i got an interesting question for ya, I got an 87 pathfinder hardbody and was doing donuts in 4wd in the snow and afterwords noticed my front tires were toed in very dramatically but only when the hubs are locked and 4wd is engaged. It straightens out when in 2wd again but once 4wd is engaged and I roll forward about 10 feet they toe in like crazy... I replaced a shot wheel bearing, still does it but also replacing a shot cv axle on my passenger side some time this week. Do you have any idea what could be causing this? Thank you if you took the time to read

  • @evilvickers
    @evilvickers 5 років тому

    I believe it slipped out of four wheel drive from a loss of vacuum to the front diff actuator. Had 2.8 Jimmy of this vintage that would do this if I kept it over 2000-2500 rpm for about 20-30 seconds.

    • @FuzzyDiceProjects
      @FuzzyDiceProjects  5 років тому

      The vacuum actuator is gone, I replaced it with a manual locking cable. The diff disengaged because I didn't get the cable tight enough when I first pulled it, the truck was sitting still at the time and that makes it difficult, should have locked it harder once it got rolling again

    I just joined the Blazer family with my first vehicle, a 2003 model blazer. Loving it so far but I’ve been having some trouble with shifting in and out of 4-wheel drive. Specifically, it shifts into 4-wheel just fine, but when I try to shift out, it takes multiple attempts that usually don’t work. Any tips for a newbie on what might be going on?

    • @FuzzyDiceProjects
      @FuzzyDiceProjects  5 років тому +1

      Is it an electric shift transfer case? Rolling a bit forward or back in a straight line is often necessary to disengage the front differential, if you are trying to turn as you shift out of four wheel it might be binding and making it harder to disengage. Could also be the mechanism itself, by 2003 they were an electric actuator on the front diff. An electric shift case might also be looking for certain conditions (again, rolling forward/back in a straight line will help) or could just be acting up. Does it clunk or make weird noises?

    What year Jeep Cherokee has the solid steering shaft? Will this swap also work on a K1500 Z71?
    I have tried everything to get rid of the sloppy steering on my truck and nothing works.
    It still wants to wander especially when you hit a bump. I have tried remanufactured steering boxes and currently have a 3/4 ton HD steering box on it and the problem is still there.
    Thanks

    • @FuzzyDiceProjects
      @FuzzyDiceProjects  5 років тому +1

      I believe all XJ Cherokees had a mostly solid steering shaft, supposedly 1984-2000 would all work. Some Grand Cherokee shafts would work as well, but most use a different steering column connection and will not. • @FuzzyDiceProjects
      @FuzzyDiceProjects  5 років тому +1

      I have thought about it, but honestly it feels pretty unsafe already and I'm not sure I want to lift it higher and make that worse. Maybe with nice, wide axles it would be okay, though. I can't say that it won't happen eventually, but don't plan to at the moment.

      @@FuzzyDiceProjects I have my 93 s10 truck and its fairly stock. I hate to say that I've been neglecting it but I have. I bought this truck on purpose. It had the very same engine and transmission as my 91 blazer who died at the hands on distracted driver. There are not to many 4.3, 5 speed, 4x4s roaming the streets. I was never a fan of the automatics in these vehicles as you know yourself they were notoriously weak. I'm not sure how or when but I have accumulated 4 different makes of trucks over the last 4 years. 3 full size, and 1 S10..

    • @FuzzyDiceProjects
      @FuzzyDiceProjects  5 років тому +2

      While it doesn't have a lot of horespower and I wouldn't call it "gut-full", it has plenty of torque for that light truck. The issue was mostly with the open differentials, since one tire would be spinning like Hell while the other just kinda wiggled. Plus, the fronts actually rub pretty bad so just about every time the wheels were turned the drivetrain was fighting to turn those tires I was pressing against the frame, and I didn't get the RPMs very high for any of this mostly because of that.

    Why do you do voiceover for all of your videos instead of talking in the moment? Just curious.

    • @FuzzyDiceProjects
      @FuzzyDiceProjects  5 років тому +10

      Logic Hurts Idiots has part of it, it is tough to get good and consistent sound quality talking while recording video. Quite a few of the project videos were done that way but I'm not sure if it is worth investing in a microphone setup for that or just doing most of the narration later. Sometimes it is a time consideration, I just want to get the work done and filming slows things down a lot but having to also narrate slows things down even more. I also tend to ramble on camera and for the sake of keeping the pace of the video consistent and keeping things moving doing the voiceover later adds a lot of flexibility there, as well as sometimes letting me add information I didn't actually have at the time or set up what is going to happen after a cut. As Logic Hurts also guessed, I like the idea in this sort of video that I am telling a story, and am able to reflect back on what is happening.

    • @FuzzyDiceProjects
      @FuzzyDiceProjects  5 років тому +13

      Lots of wheel spin on one side vs the other because of the open differentials, and the RPMs probably didn't get over 3k here and most of the time was closer to 2k, if I had to guess. Seems right to me, and the transmission drives just fine on the road.

    • @FuzzyDiceProjects
      @FuzzyDiceProjects  5 років тому +1

      Unfortunately not. Replaced the intermediate steering shaft with a solid one but as I figured it wasn't the issue. The problem is that the replacement steering box is about as loose as the old one was. I haven't had a chance to crank down the adjusters on it yet but I don't have high hopes and it might need yet another replacement box.

    • @FuzzyDiceProjects
      @FuzzyDiceProjects  5 років тому

      Hmm. Always remember that the traction is pretty terrible, don't take and sharp turns at any kind of speed, if the steering isn't loose cherish it, if it is be very careful when driving it. Tape on the rear window latch can help quiet it down for a while, they usually rattle. Check your ball joints and bearings, they often go bad on these models, especially since cheap parts are commonly used. That's about it off of the top of my head! Good luck!
