- In this episode I take a look at the Custom Cues and POI features in my favourite route planning tool, @RideWithGPS. I will demonstrate and show a little of how I use them for planning my own adventures on two wheels.

I always wondered how to display these type of messages in my head unit. Thanks Richard, I learnt something new today.
No problem, glad you enjoyed it. Yes, it can very useful, if your touring just lay down a few places you'd like to see along the route.
Thanks for the lesson.
Glad you found it useful
Hi Richard, thanks for the vid. As an avid randonneur myself, I use the cues as well and I would like to share a hack I always use.
After the route is planned and I am sure that no major changes will come up, I DELETE all cues (button delete all cues) and then I add my custom cues.
This cleans up the head unit display and you can use your custom cues to motivate yourself with those cues on a long audax and you can highlight dangerous crossings better.
Do you know a way of automatically change POI into custom cues? I looked but did not find a solution.
Happy riding! Are you participating in LEL 2025? If so, perhaps see you there!
Let's say you have a route that goes through an intersection two different times. On the first pass through the intersection I put a cue sheet that says "Go Straight". Then I do a loop and come back through this same intersection and put a cue sheet that says "Take a Left". Will I get both cue sheet notifications each time I go through the intersection??
Nope the cycling computer is intelligent enough to know where you've been and where you should be heading.
I always use Strava routes. Is it as simple as strava to transfer the route on to head unit?
Hi Steve, very easy. Garmin users can download the route simply by connecting RideWithGPS to their Garmin account and using the ConnectIQ app through their head unit to download either Pinned or Recent Routes. Similar for Wahoo users, just connect the app to RideWithGPS and it will appear ready to load.
@@BikepackingAdventures cheers Richard I have just installed ride with gps on my Garmin and linked it to my account. So now when I complete a ride will the ride info show on ride with gps aswel as Strava now?
