    James I think you've chosen the right avenue with old pond rebuild and like you said keeps the shape of your garden and keeps that length also the way your conservatory/house gives you that protected visual perspective over pond. Also Sieve and RDF combi is the way forward saving on hand maintenance and filter wool 😉 ..

    Another cracking video, a thought would to knock the back wall out that has the fence on it and then build that wall as part of the pond. that would give you an extra couple of feet wide.

    you should keep your fish and buy a swimming pool you have the space at the back put the osb board down and place pool on top then pump pond water to the pool and pipe the fitters . if you go the way you are fitting and keep two the fish will stress and you may lose them

  • @Clungedoctor

    I highly recommend you get a window for the side of the pond. Bit of extra faff and expensive but trust me it’s worth every penny. I have one on mine and it gives you a much better view of the fish. Plus they love it too, always having a look out.

    Hey James. Have you thought of buying a stock tank as a temporary housing for your fish? This was you can keep them at your place and at the same time you can maintain them. It’ll save you time from having to build a temp tank at your mom’s place and when you are fully done with your bigger pond, you can just sell the stock tank. Happy days, and love the videos!

    If you set up a temporary pond/swimming pool on other side of garden can you not leave you filters where they are and use flex pipe to the pumps. That way you still using same filters and water.

  • @iankey9664
    @iankey9664 3 роки тому

    Great video and good work. It's a good decision to put you new pond in the same place, perfect spot. Build your temporary pond on the oposite side of your garden you could then transfer your filters and shower over and use the same pond water. This would allow you to keep all of your koi. Think positive its warming up now. I wouldn't put the temp pond at the front of your house its too accessible, keep it at the rear. You can do this you have enough wood and timber. Trust me it makes sense.

  • @retroandrusticlampsuniqued1936

    Great video James, with regards to the rest of the demolition, locate the centre concrete block on the front elevation, grind the joints out and carefully remove. Thus you will be able to remove the rest one by one and with a hammer and bolster, remove the motar , and save yourself a few quid. On a secondary note, this method will ensure the structure will remain intact and has not been weakened by demolition with a sledgehammer. I start my pond build next week, Also in the same position as you with a smaller pond to extend.

    Don't get rid of your fish mate...you will regret it. Those smaller fish like Tango will grow huge in your new pond and you will get so much satisfaction from doing that. Also if you let them go you can't guarantee they will get a good home...its like letting the pet shop sell your dog to a stranger. Either build a temporary pond at the farm or buy a holding pond for the farm and take your filters with the mature media and they will be fine..no need to separate the fish...I've done it twice in spring when moving and the fish were fine. Just make sure there is no muck in the filters. If you can't afford a holding pond ask if anyone on here has got one...you will get it cheap or even for free.

    Why not build a L shape pond in the corner then you could still put the pond along the back fence two bottom drains and jobs a fish

    Can’t you pick up a cheap vat or hire a vat to put all your fish in , the way your going it’ll only be for a few months , what you spend on a vat you’ll loose on ya koi

    You say your local koi dealer would buy your koi back off you. I know it’s a bit cheeky to ask but what would be trade prices for your fish? You could be better off selling to your subscribers.

    Why at your parents farm? Put up a temporary pond in your own garden!
    Better if it’s at home, you will be able to keep an eye on your fish and deal with any problems that might arise!
    You will also be able to pump your pond water into the holding pond which will be much better for your fish!
    I think it will be a big mistake that you will regret moving your fish off site!
