It's genius really, I often think about the first person to stumble across and understand music theory. How is everything lined up so perfectly, it's like it was already written and sombody just had to find it
Well, those are cams on the Cheat -A-Keys. It's a much more accurate way to bend and unbend the strings because you're not initiating a geared tuner, but a levered cam. I've had both cam-style and Keith-style and I prefer the cams, and more specifically, like you, the Cheat-A-Keys. In fact, in 1965 I drilled holes in the headstock of my RB-100 to install a set of cam "Scruggs Pegs" and they worked fine, although a bit of an eyesore. I have to say, like so many things at my age, I don't care what they look like, just how they work and how stable they are.
It's the same for me... I wanted the Keith style tuners for my other banjo because I like the look better, then I got the Bowtie and I just wanted something easy to use. You get used to them being up there.
Earl Scruggs came out with those teeners that you’re calling cheetah keys, and you had to drill holes in in your pig head, and then Bill Keith invented them and call them Keith Scruggs tuners I have seen some like the cheetah keys that have levers on them instead of turning them it’s a lever you work back-and-forth. I’ve been playing the banjo since 1974.
Not true, the Bill Keith tuners are the same style as the Schaller tuners I showed in this video. Cheat a keys were invented more recently comparatively speaking.

Great video, Mason. Wish I would have seen this when I was beginning; D-tuners always confused me back then.
Thanks! I remember those days when they were confusing haha

Very nice. I definitely learned something! 😄
Well that's great! Thanks for the idea 😌🤓
@@MasonCroneMusic That’s what I’m here for 😎😉
🤔 I had wondered why Jim P had that black plastic bar with two pins, running across the tuning pegs on an expensive RK. 😂👏👏👏
Now you know! 😂
@@MasonCroneMusic 😜🤣 thought it was to ease the angle/ tension on the middle two slots on the nut🤣😖😉😋👍🪕
Flint Hill special 😊
Good stuff!
I was entertained….and that’s hard to do….🤣
Thanks, good to hear 😎🤣
Pretty expensive
For sure. Like I said in the video it's an investment in your playing though. They're worth it if you can afford them and you're a serious player.
Great video! Now we know where to send people when they ask "What's the difference between the two?" 🪕
Thank you! 😄
