Dissociative Identity Disorder has been misconstrued for far too long. You are being a part of the problem. DID is not an “excuse”. And it’s not a split personality.
Alters are meant to protect the host, on some occasions a persecutor alter will form, which is a danger to the host and system in that they will attempt to “protect” themselves or the host- but normally their idea of protecting is harmful.
Don’t you dare contribute to the people who make victims with DID into villains.
They struggle enough without being made into monsters by the media.
Some of my closest friends have DID, and they are hurt every day because of people who don’t think before they make their character have an evil personality that they chalk up to DID.
It’s not okay. Please apologize to the people who are being hurt by your actions.
They already have to deal with movies like “Split”, a movie that made DID into a monstrous thing and made many people start to accuse the people with DID of being evil or begin to treat them differently because of an incorrect and demeaning portrayal in a horror movie.
Please don’t use mental health unless you actually know how it works. Help lessen the misconceptions and discrimination instead of adding to it. I know your intention wasn’t malicious, however- you seriously hurt people by using a mental condition as a plot hole filler.
