Thank you for adopting and working with Jack! I had an older adult doxie who went blind literally over 2 days from a disease called SARDS. As it happened so quickly there was no pre-emptive training opportunity. The first training word I taught was "touch". There are many "differently abled" dogs that are overlooked when they can be amazing companions with just some patience, training, and affection. Very inspiring, thanks!

My dog is also 90% blind so I give 100% attention on him when we go for walks so that he will not bump into things and hurt himself, guess he knows he is safe so walking about confidently and people don’t know he can’t see 😊 also important is to place the furniture in a way that leaves a lot of clear space and do not change the furniture’s position all the time.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE me some dachshunds❤️. I lost my best little buddy of all time more than two years ago, and I’m still broken heartbroken and grieving 😢. He went EVERYWHERE with me (and yes, even to the bathroom 😂). I promised him that he would ALWAYS be my
best little buddy and that there could never be another buddy to take his place. I also promised him that when it was time for him to leave me he would NOT draw his last breath on some cold metal in the Veterinarian’s office. I had the Veterinarian come to the house and Maxx drew his last breath lying tightly against me where we spent so much time together, me YouTubing and Maxx sleeping. From my usual place on the couch I can look outside and see Maxx’s grave, headstone and a dogwood tree planted in his honor. We spent almost 17 years together, and yes, the tears are flowing.🙏❤️🥲. Us old disabled Veterans still have soft, warm hearts, too.
Your love for dachshunds and your bond with Maxx is truly touching. It's clear he meant the world to you, and your promise to him shows the depth of your love and devotion. It's beautiful that he was able to pass away peacefully at home, surrounded by love. Your memorial to him is a testament to the special bond you shared. "Touch" is a great 'command' word bc it doesn't sound like other words, so they can differentiate it easily.
If you have a pet with vision problems, another thing to keep in mind is to not rearrange your furniture or set random items on the floor bc it'll make them run into things & become nervous/ insecure.
They seem to be doing a toadally 🐸 PAWsome job with him, he's PURRfectly PURRecious 👏😻
