  • Melaka is one of the most visited cities in Malaysia. But, should it be classified as a tourist trap? Is Melaka overpriced in order to scam tourists from their money? We'll discuss this in the video and provide information for tourists and anyone considering a long term stay in Melaka. We'll also discuss the features of Melaka that we like and do not like. Thanks for watching!

personally, i would prefer penang over malacca.
1/ the beach and water are both nicer.
2/ the food varieties is wider.
3/ the parks are more kempt.

@@snailtravelers no they didn't. But since were extending our Visa, the company getting the extension needs a confirmed flight out of Malaysia for immigration.

Ryan & Emily, Welcome to Melaka or Malacca, the place where I was born. I lived in Melaka until I was 18 years old and then I went to KL to study, work & ultimately bought a house & built a family but my family & I still go back to Melaka once every few months. You have just known Melaka but your understanding & knowledge about Melaka history is amazing. I even have to take history exam that consists of Melaka when I was a teenager. Everything you mentioned about Melaka I know or have been there except Line Clear. I have absolutely zero knowledge about it & will check it out in the future. Btw the back of my grandfather’s house is facing the Melaka river & my eldest brother says they used to swim in the river & catch prawns & fishes in 1960. Lots of sweet memories for true Malaccan like me. Thanks for your wonderful videos that all people around the world benefit from your vast travelling experiences. God bless Emily & you. Keep safe & healthy always. 🙏 ✝️

Thank you so much for taking the time to share all of this! I can't imagine swimming in the river now. I wish I could have visited in the 1960's before Melaka became so built up, I'm sure it has changed a lot. Thanks, as always, for watching our videos and for taking the time to write a comment. Take care!

The variables are too many to consider and each person has their liking and dislikes. RM1k may sound reasonable for someone but other RM2k is no problem. So I definitely won’t be able to answer you. Sorry.

For Jonker Street, I give it a thumbs up for the weekends.
It attracts lotsa tourist, but there are enough food and attractions for folks with Asian taste etc. Even the shops alone there selling food stuff. Slightly more pricey, but good standard.
Sorry, the rice ball n chicken at Jonker street is probably my least recommended food in Malacca. It is for tourists, but not a trap. 😂

Recently there, we found it furnace-like, indeed a tourist trap and a low point in our trip. I have been looking at seeking a residency visa. To that end, I would absolutely write Melaka off (maybe okay for a quick exploration on a holiday).

I ran a backpacker place next to Jonker before Unesco status. After that it started getting very touristy including the the flower power trishaws. No riverside walks and only one boat cruise. Only Chinese kopitiams. Main issue l think are day trippers with their cars. Line clear is ancient.

Melaka is small. Long term stay maybe boring for some people. Penang has many attractions eg national parks, trails, heritage sites, more food options, beaches.

We had a similar feeling about visiting Melaka. We only stayed one night as a getaway from KL, so just got a glimpse really, but we did a lot of wandering around looking for birds, down by the ocean and up on the hill with the Chinese cemetery. We were there mid-week so Jonker street was only really half open, but we enjoyed ourselves. Obviously a lot of tourists but I agree with you, I would have no issue going back for longer.

I appreciate you making this video but you shouldn't call this a tourist trap as its not tricking or scamming the tourists. It's more like a gimmick geared to attract tourists or like you said catered to tourists which every place does that. It is the travellers decision if they want to try it or not. Kind of like you trying to get more views by naming this video as a tourist trap which you have trapped us to initially watch... lol
