I solve most of these by taking one matchstick and laying it diagonally across the equal sign so, for example, 6+6=8 becomes 6-6 is not equal to 8, which is mathematically speaking, correct. Some people would call me a smart ass. I prefer to think of it as “thinking outside the box”.
Every puzzle has many, many trivial answers like this one. If you remove the possibility of "not equals to" you have puzzles that are genuine challenges.
47+5=8 Move the upstroke of the plus sign to make 47-5 on LHS. Put the upstroke match across the equal sign to indicate not equal. The equation becones 47- 5 is NOT equal to 8
No, that’s not how bodmas works. Adding and subtracting have equal weight, so you will move from left to right regardless of which symbol (- or +) comes first. If you don’t believe me, find any video about bodmas and they will tell you the same thing.
BODMAS does not imply addition is first. Addition and subtraction are the same precedence and are done as they appear from left to right. The same is true for multiplication and division. The first one of these encountered when going from left to right is done first.
Even though in PEDMAS addition to the left of subtraction addition has no priority in execution over subtraction. Similarly, division has no priority in execution over multiplication.
4-1+5=8 this answer is not correct according to mathematic rule BODMAS. according to this rule it would be 4-1+5= -2 because first we add then substract.
4-1+5=8 moving just the top of number 7 and putting it as a minus sign.

But in the beginning you can read that symbol is not allowed 😆 Would be too easy.
I thought about that one, but the challenge is "fix the equation", not "turn the equation into a fixed inequality".
Not sure thst counts as "fixing the equation," but yeah, always my first thought too. :)
There is a rule against that symbol at 0:12.
I was the 47 + 5 = 8 that got me !
6 - 1 = 5. Good brain exercise :)
6 - 1 = 5.
You could take one of the two matches that make up the 1 and make the equation 5 + 1 = 6.
@@iamsithazagoth3728 no, that's cheating.
Take the stick from the 7. Now it's 41 + 5 = 8. Place the stick across the "Equals Sign" diagonally so now 41 +5 is not equal to 8.
Outside the Box
My dad taught me some mathematics at a young age and my mother impresses me with her skills at modern technology.
I love to have this kind of game. I wish to have an intelligence somewhere. That is fun to resolve.
GOOD INITIATIVE OF YOUR PART MY FRIENDS.
I moved the vertical matchstick from the plus sign to the ‘=‘ sign to get 47-5 does not equal 8.

Good for waiting time.....
#4 was wrong because according to bodmas law, at first plus(+) should be done
No, that’s not how bodmas works. Adding and subtracting have equal weight, so you will move from left to right regardless of which symbol (- or +) comes first. If you don’t believe me, find any video about bodmas and they will tell you the same thing.
I take one match (eg the one on the plus sign) and lay it across the equal sign to make it „not equals“
5 for 5! Not bad for a knucklehead trucker like myself😅😅😅😅
Thank you 😊

47 + 5 = 8 should be solved by BODMAS (Addition first )

@@jamesharmon4994, now do PEMDAS.

Only could do the very last one
Did it 💪
Well done 👍

As well as moving one matchstick ,
you can also move the numbers
in the equation.
No, you can't.

There is a rule against that symbol at 0:12.
4-1+5=8---by moving one stick from 7 and make it minus sign between 4 &1
Where is the equation? I cannot see any variable
It's an equation because there is an operation on one side and the result on the other side of a =. That's an equation.
47 + 5 =8: 4-1+5=8; 4-(1+5)=8; 4-6 = … ? Not 8 …
4+(-1+5) = 4+4 = 8.
Or 4 - (1 - 5) = 4 - (-4) = 4+4 = 8.
0 AGAIN! I HATE THESE THINGS!!!!!
how aobut 17-15=2
Easy: move one stick to form the UNEQUAL sign.
There is a rule against that symbol at 0:12.
#5 => 6 - 1 = 5 🤦
4-1+5=-2 according to the arithmetic rule called PEDMAS/BODMAS. You add first then subtract
No, you do all addition and subtraction, left to right, at the same time, because subtraction is the same as adding a negative number.
@@JMcMillen Ever heard of PEDMAS/BODMAS
a-b = a+(-b) ; 4-1+5 = 4+(-1)+5
Even though in PEDMAS addition to the left of subtraction addition has no priority in execution over subtraction. Similarly, division has no priority in execution over multiplication.
47-1=8 is incorrect, there is no space between 4 and 7, to put a minus you have to move one of the numbers. A big dislike for this.
Ridiculous!!
4-1+5=8
this answer is not correct according to mathematic rule BODMAS. according to this rule it would be
4-1+5= -2
