I was born and have always lived in the UK. I've never been able to afford to go on a weekend break, or a holiday, let alone afford to travel abroad. Now at sixty years of age and windowed eight years, I''ve never been in poorer health, I finally have the funds though, but not the health to travel. I've been invited to stay with friends in Paris and Louisiana USA for as long as I want, but because of a recent D.V thrombosis. I'm still medically unable to fly. Bummer eh? 😉😂

Or you can be like most Americans and have private insurance. If your income is low enough, you get free insurance. Out of pocket will be higher but taxes lower so it evens out. Of course the care in the US is dramatically better.

I’d love to move to Oregon from the UK but I’m a single child and my parents are elderly, I just can’t bring myself to leave them until they pass. Until then Oregon will remain my dream, one day I’ll make it a reality ❤️

Being an expat for 15 years overseas this is so spot on. It's the intangibles that often get ignored when we relocate and then halfway through once the tasks stop flooding in you realize you've changed and the people back home have too. bro i spent years in the military and coming home was hard nothing was the same and don't feel like home anymore. Okay so you like using your feet? Well say good bye to those as your going to have to drive everywhere. Do you like just being able to be ill and take time off? Well you can only do that a few times a year. Do you like being able to go on holiday? Well you only get two weeks off a year so count in family problems and you'll be lucky if you can go off once a year. Also they don't have college/sixth form so hope your kids don't resent you for life by making them do two extra years of Secondary school. And how could I forget let's say you brake a leg "well that'll be 17-35 grand partner". Yeah do yourself a d your family a favor and make sure NEVER to move to that hell whole

We’re going to see a surge of young Brits (hopefully including myself someday) moving to the US and Australia due to the current state of the country (low wages, high tax, the inefficiency of the NHS ect.) and it’s kinda sad because we’re in a situation where the best option is to jump ship rather than work to improve the current state of the uk

yep. This is me. I left Italy moved to Florida and I did not think of the cost of traveling after you have kids its been impossible. And life has changed over there too. nothing is the same.

I move this saturday to be with my partner who is American. I have always lived in Wales with my family, never moved from the same town as them, so to now be moving across the pond is frightening yet thrilling with this bitter sweetness left behind. I dont have any kids, but i leave behind my niece who is more like my little sister and my nephew who has just turned one. The thought of missing out on their life hurts deep to the core. But i cannot wait to be with my soul mate again, it just sucks that I cannot fly the family over to live in the US haha.
I can completely relate- it’s soo hard. It still eats at me. We haven’t had the chance to get over in years and it makes me feel horrible, but like you mentioned I would be miserable without the family

Anyone who leaves their home country will feel conflicted in some ways. Americans sometimes have a hard time moving to different states.

Is it less depressing? Cos living in the uk, especially up north, can be dull. Its grey, rainy, boring and just bland.
Haha I don’t know they both have pros and cons and there are some states that get just as much gloomy weather. California and Florida are sunny most of the year - love those states! We have considered moving back to England - there are some things I really miss.
It is difficult enough even if you move to Newcastle from London, let alone to another continent. Life changes when you relocate, end of story. Expect it so that you don't have a shock. This is a huge lesson for people who think "Oh but I can always go back every few months" - no you won't... life does not let you.
I appreciate that feedback so much and it’s so true! You think it’s so easy until life hits you and it’s definitely not. We just were able to go back for a few weeks thankfully, but it was the first time in 10 years! It was so hard to leave and I already can’t wait to go back.

Really makes sense mate, I moved to the US 3 years ago during covid and didn't think id be moving when i did. I find when i go back home im out of step with life back home. Its not quite as glorified as it seems. Saying that I do love my life here and I'm having a real experience with a lot of opportunities. I think i you just make of it what you do.

It occurs to me that not long ago, if somebody emigrated from the UK to the US, their lives would be upended because communication and travel would have been quite limited. But today?? You can stay in touch on the daily if you want to, share video and photos, interact live over Skype or other similar platforms, visit each other in both directions, etc. So instead of your interactions with family becoming limited, today, they are almost expanded because now you can go anywhere in UK or US on vacations because you have homes (free room & board) in either spot.
That’s a great way to look at it! And most so true. I wish we had free room and board 😂 we are going back in May and it’s a major expense for us - for a family of 4 plan tickets are just under 5k, Airbnb 2k, rental car, transportation, etc. we are budgeting 10k and how it’s enough 🤞. But for some that’s not very much, so it’s all a matter of perseverance! 😀
@@TheLiveOutLoudFamily airbnb? can't you just stay with your folks? i guess houses are much tinier there than in the us? also is it really 5k for plane tickets?? damn when i go from cleveland to charleston, south carolina i pay like a little over $250 for ROUND TRIP tickets, but that is for one person only. still, multiply that by 4 and only 1k, which is WAY cheaper than quintuple that amount.
@@marksmith4892 that would be nice. Yeah, spaces are much smaller over there. When we owned a home in Lansing, Michigan it was just a little 1800 sq. Ft house for American standards, but that would be a very big house over there. 😂 felt big to me! Airfare definitely adds up. It’s cheaper to fly from the east coast, but then you have to spend the time and money getting to the east coast so it adds up. That’s awesome you are traveling in the states! We have been to 32 states together so far. It’s been a blast!
@@TheLiveOutLoudFamily i'm single and looking for houses in the 2500 sq. ft. range with fireplace and 2 bathroom LOOOOOL i had actually found one in a great neighborhood, built 1976 with fully updated bathrooms and kitchen, new driveway and roof, new HVAC, whole house was in great condition. it was 2500 sq ft and JUST the bedroom was so big it was like 2.5 master bedrooms put together. it was so fking long you could probably have fit about 5-6 king size beds end to end. just for me hahahaha. we really do have so much space in the US. had a nice big yard, too!

I know that this is an older video and probably won't get a response, but. I've been living in-between LA and Liverpool throughout the last few years. But in the last two or three years, living in Liverpool has felt like a chore, like something I need to suffer through to keep peace with my family. However, my girlfriend of 12 years (American citizen) is wanting to settle. Start a family, buy a home and potentially have kids. And while I am super down to live in LA and would love to live there, it feels selfish to leave my family behind. I think I would prefer to be in the US and am wondering how I should inform my parents. Have you got any advice as to how to break the news in a way that will preserve my family's relationship with me? (I should note that when my uncle moved to Finland, he and my family had a strenuous relationship for a few years before they got used to it. (He didnt visit often)) I hope I'm not oversharing lol ❤
Definitely not over sharing! I can definitely relate! LA is amazing and can see why you would be so torn. We are actually visiting England right now and it’s the first time we’ve been back in 10 years! Thankfully my family was supportive but it is so hard. It’s expensive to go back and forth (as I’m sure you are finding) and even more difficult with kids, but hopefully if you budgeted and planned right you could take an annual trip - and If your family is able to visit I couldn’t imagine a cooler place than LA! Hopefully if they know your heart and how much it means to you they will understand - especially if you do go back once in a while and they can come visit!

I live in Southampton mate and ive got dreams of things I want to do but my family is really preventing it from happening. Parents r divorced. In my opinion you have to listen to your heart! It’s hard leaving family but you don’t want to live life with regrets. I would check out something like CCUSA where you can secure seasonal work and travel a little after and then go home and see what you think. Kind of a test run! Some of those camps if they like you will hire you every year too. Best of luck! Please keep us posted!

Price of living to quality of life here is not for me anymore . Since a kid I dreamt of going to America and iv recently decided I have nothing to lose leaving here . But do I have a chance of securing a visa when Im 32 and with no real qualifications??

I have an opportunity to work for the US branch of my company. I have a wife and a daughter who is 8. Both me and her would pull in double the house hold income that what we have no. The only issue is i work offshore so for 2 weeks a month i’d be in the atlantic ocean whilst she was at home (probably tampa bay area) without any support.
Its such a hard thing to chose, a sunny new exciting life with endless choices for activities and endless opportunities for my daughter growing up - or stay in northern england which has been neglected for decades and is visibly in a downward spiral to poverty, drug users and obviously our 10 months of cloud and rain we get a year.. with the upside of being able to see your family when ever you want. Im more in favour of going to the US than my wife and I understand we both have to want it for it to happen otherwise it will be a painful experience
I’ve found Americans are so friendly, I bet you all would find friends and a community if you moved. It’s just such a big country with so much opportunity. Just last year we traveled to 23 states and are now planning the next 27. Please stay in touch!

Americans are really open and forward compared to what we brits are like so im sure people would make effort to interact with her while im away. @@TheLiveOutLoudFamily Well my plan was to start in Connecticut, hire out a camper and travel up to Niagara falls then all the way through to LA and then back down through Texas to Dallas, Atlanta, DC and then back to a full loop. As a Brit I’ve never been to America and I think a Road trip would be a great first trip to the US. I was just wondering if you had any quick bits of advice or anything as a fellow Brit, I don’t know if I even need a visa 🤣
@@Mr_Greene haha you are going to have the time of your life! We full-time RV! I think you can come over for 3 months at all time as a Brit, so to do that I would start in late Spring and have most the summer and early fall to do it. It’s peak season so a lot of other RVers will be out and about. The roads are huge over here so you’ll love that! You also might be surprised to find snow in states that you would think would be warm. We had snow in Texas and Arizona! I’m considering LA because I’m really interested in the creative arts industries, Music, anime, video games that’s the route I want to go down. I’m also autistic and gave adhd but I still would really love to pursue my passions but I want to be able to sustain myself how I can. The industry I’m interested in, all the big companies are there and more opportunities.
Does anyone have any advice for this? I am going to do lots of research, I’ve just finished my undergraduate so I could potentially pursue study or other avenues but I want to find out more! Any help is appreciated and advice is welcome on any kind of avenue.

So great to connect with you! There are different visas, including a talent visa, which you might qualify for. You could also always try getting a seasonal job in the area like working as an art Director at a camp and networking and seeing if you really like it out here. Oh it’s crazy for sure! The insurance we had through work at the time only kicked in after you spent $20,000 out of pocket 😳 so to have our two boys it was $30,000 - a huge shock! When I first came over I worked through CCUSA who provided a work visa. Then I met mow now wife and filed for a finance visa, then we got married and I became a legal resident, and after years of paperwork I became a naturalized citizen. It’s not for the faint of heart 😂 There were months where I couldn’t legally work, and the when I did get my green card I took the first job I could get at a sandwich shop - with a bachelors degree 😅 the things we do for love!
I’m not sure of your situation but there are other ways like talent visas that I’ve seen people get.

Hi, Michael! That could be a tough one. I think with a unique situation like that you might want to look into an immigration lawyer. I was on a IG live chat with a really cool immigration lawyer (immigrant himself) Shaymev Law Firm. He has a lot of free resources and might be a good person to connect with. Morgan has worked with people from Jamaica and said that to get there parents over here wasn’t easy but after a few years and paperwork doable. Does your sister live with your mum?

That’s a loaded question, but a good question. A lot of factors to think about. Cost of living can vary state to state, if you were to settle what state are you looking at? It’s never too late to make a change in my opinion, you would probably want to have some savings before a move. What line of work are you in? You could look to secure a job before moving, that would help. (Don’t forget no NHS over here)

Aww I can totally relate! It’s doable, but it is a lot of work. Are you thinking about marriage? A fiancé visa is nice but you have to fly out after approved and can’t work for a while. Please do not do that to your kids! I went to both American and English schools as my mum dated an American 🤮 for a bit. I helped make sure they broke up so I could get out of that hell hole. So unless you want your kids to resent you for the rest of your life move to New Zealand, Gibraltar, Australia or any other English speaking country/territory.

It all depends on what you want to do. What I did when I was 18 was get a job through CCUSA- I worked as a camp counselor and it was amazing. They provided the visa and it allowed me to travel after. That might be a place to start! Keep us posted!
