Ramon Remedios is one of many native British singers with international careers centred mainly in Europe who were taken for granted at the time and are too little remembered today. To remedy this I hope to feature Ramon in as wide a repertoire as possible including live opera performances, perhaps the utimate test of any singer in the demands it places on vocal and physical stamina and acting ability. Hence this complete performance of La Traviata from Cologne in 1974 in which Ramon sings Alfredo, a tole he also sang with ENO and WNO. Unfortunately, the the audience is possibly the noisiest and most inconsiderate that I have ever encountered. I have tried to limit their contribution as much as possible but it’s not ideal. In fact, for most of the opera Violetta seems to be the healthiest person in the building! Nonetheless, I hope you will enjoy this rarity.
Thank you very much for uploading this. Perhaps you like some information about that performace. First: The name of th singer of Violetta is "May Sandoz", who was an acclaimed Colorature Soprano that time, first of all as Queen of the Night in "The magic flute", a part she sang very often in Cologne. Germont Père was Camillo Meghor, a belgian baritone, especially for the Italian repertoire. Flora was Elisabeth Payer (not Payne). Perhaps I find more information about the rest of the cast in my large collection of documents from the Cologne Opera.
I found just one performance of "La Traviata" in Cologne with this cast. It took place on March 12th 1974 in the Cologne Opera house.
