Hi, and thanks for such great coverage of my first release for ZDoom :D I really appreciate it! It started off last year when I wanted to investigate how far Doom modding had come since the 90s and then I kind of went completely mad with it, throwing in anything that interested me (new monsters, those Vulkoin tokens, scripted events, new weapon, a proper boss fight!) I definitely take the point about the difficulty, because I got so used to the maps from playtesting repeatedly and didn't notice it drifting up - in retrospect I definitely made that "escort quest" too long and it's really easier to clear the whole map out first and then go back for the coolant keg. You can get the Flak Cannon in MAP04 or MAP05 if you look hard enough, but by MAP06 it becomes obvious :) Thanks again for all the feedback, it's fantastic to know that people enjoyed this!
That's right, Realm667 is an amazing library of resources - the full list of stuff I used from there is in the credits in the PK3. And I'm giving the original stuff I made during the course of this mod back to them for others to use now :)

If you are willing to cover another iteration of Brutal Doom, I recommend Johnny Doom. Play it in a WAD with large numbers of classic enemies and a rocking soundtrack.
hey icarus i have a challenge for you: there's a map/wad called planisphere2 which is a surprisingly accurate (for the doom engine) recreation of downtown new york and parts of jersey, and is basically as accurate as doom could get to surviving a zombie/demon apocalypse in the city. my challenge is for you to be able to actually beat it without any cheats. using mods is acceptable (within reason; russian overkill is basically a cheat haha) i hope you read this and take the challenge seriously. i just hope you have a powerful enough computer to run this map with a frame rate higher than a single digit haha love the videos and keep up the great work!
I feel like the enemies in this mod have been given extremely shortened reaction times. At one point you opened a door to a Hell Knight behind it and it had damaged you before the door even finished opening. Also you go round a corner and a shotgunner shoots within half a second.
HairyHog There's no actual release date apart from 'pretty soon'. You should sub to the dev, @SGtMarkIV, to stay on track. Project Brutality is another matter though, which is on ModDB, where you can sub to the dev's RSS feed.
PopMusicKiller that's all they updated? i didn't find recoil to be a problem it's just weird that they would remove it. though I'm half way through the game i haven't finished it in months.
It would be great if you could throw the ball at monsters and it stunlocks them for a few seconds while they hold their noses Also, some kinda mining related weapons would've been great for this, like instead of the flakcannon they coulda had a cannon or shotgun like archeologists use to detect stuff underground maybe they could have a jackhammer or drill instead of a chainsaw, or a pickaxe for lots of damage with one hit pickaxes, pipes, and sledgehammers would make more sense for the zombies, too. Why would a mining company have so many damn axes around?

Yep :) Russian was the particular language in my mind when I wrote the mod, as the setting was inspired by the Kola Superdeep Borehole - which ran into unexpected geological heat, starting a rumour in the 90s that the Russians had drilled into hell.
I was thinking 'Kola Borehole' all the way through this. I would have never thought it was actually inspired by it because the borehole story is more 'depths of Hell' in character than 'demonic invasion in progress' the wad has.
much love on the video, good job etc etc. my only issue is with the gameplay... look up dammit. when you're not fighting enemies and walking around the levels it looks like you have a habit of aiming down at the floor slightly.
Hey guys, I was wondering what kind of computer everyone has to run this at such a smooth frame rate. I figured I had a good enough computer to run games like brutal doom (6 core processor and GeForce 750 Ti video card) without any frame rate drops but it isn't as smooth as I'd hoped. Does it have to do with software or is my computer actually not good enough?
Oh yes... A doom review channel who actually talks and uses the strafe keys but also isn't making videos as if they're 12 with moviemaker and doom for the first time.
When I see this, I am reminded of my main complaint I found with brutal doom and project brutality. The enemies seem way too aggressive. Of course that's better than dynasty warriors footsoldier levels of apathy, but it gets frustrating when every third enemy who spots you manages to get at least one hit in, cause they immediately unload on you sometimes. Now I wonder if i'm the only one to have that complaint, cause it eventually just made me go trailblazer + ketchup instead. Same amount of awesome, but with much less unfair enemies.
Your weapons are through the roof in project B though. I play on Ultra-Violence and don't have an issue, I save 3-4 times a level and that makes for just enough of a challenge.
You have to play it a bit differently than you would usually play the old Dooms to avoid getting hit. It isn't cheap, just different. That being said, I can see why you wouldn't like the pace of it because the enemies are really fast in Brutal and you've got to react very quickly to avoid getting smacked around a bit. When I play Brutal Doom (which isn't really all that much anymore, I've been enjoying other mods recently) I just speed-run and play until I die (no saves.) I've made it to level 16 without dying before, still trying to finish the game in Brutal that way though.
If a wad is too hard with BD try using trailblazer with BD-monster-only version instead of just cetchup. Its really fun to moan them down with trailblazers OP arsenal
Devine Interventions because it is unnecessary to the cause of the MOD. also, if you are looking for that type of thing, you won't ever run out of reskins.
I recently bought the original Doom series on GoG and want to get into Doom map/mod making and the best way to learn as a student is to study the works of others before you try yourself; I must say that the amount of work on the mods (yes, even the really bad ones) is amazing.

I'm actually a fan of BD (or rather Project Brutality) but what about this mod really needed to be BD based? If some enemies don't even have the right hitboxes for it they should've just made it compatible with BD and leave it vanilla by default. Even BYHAE can be played without it and it was designed specifically for BD.
BYHAE looks interesting. It was a bit of trouble finding a working version though, I did find one and am about to play it but I didn't manage to make it run without brutal doom. I didn't intend to play it that way anyway tho.

I couldn't decide what to do about BD compatibility and ended up with a kind of middle ground where I removed a lot of the special stuff but kept the effects and splatteriness (I like the new weapons, which feel really satisfying and have more punch than the set we've been using since the early 90s, but not so much the fatalities and other extras which I think get in the way). The trouble with it being run vanilla is it throws the balance off and makes it duller when you're slogging through the large number of enemies with a pistol - I didn't know the etiquette in the Doom community for how to handle it :)

I don't understand why some people there trying to resurrect planetoria. Maybe that was really old-mem and kinda feature of channel but anyway, he's gone because everyone ignored him so.. joke no more interesting. Maybe better create new mem? For exemple "even doom 3 looks awesome compared to this" or "doom (from e3) 2016 better then doom 2016" or another funny and senseless phrase. Now mem "At least it's better than doom 2016" not mem that Gotham really needs. *Looked at 18 likes* Wh-o-ops, maybe not.
