This should be followed up with the importance of Distilled Water for its Non-Electrolysis property. Current in the water system accelerates corrosion.
Fabulous vid n educational . How would you rate below coolant for an SUV in a warm climate. How would you rate below coolant: Boiling point: 110 C Freezing point: -38 C Monoethylene Glycol. 50% min Specific gravity: 1.06 - 1.09 pH. 8-9 Reserve Alkalinity RA. 4-6 Variou inhibitors. 12,000 -14,000 ppm pH value @25 C. 10.4
Another one that forgets OAT coolant must not be mixed with ethylene glycol (unless stated as compatible). OAT antifreeze generally called DEX COOL. Mixing generally causes gelling.
OAT coolant is still generally ethylene glycol based. It's the corrosion inhibitors that are different and can react. There's also a couple of different types of OAT coolant. Most European vehicles use a coolant such as BASF Glysantin G30, whereas General Motors "Dex-Cool" specify a mildly different additive package also known as BASF Glysantin G34. Another OAT coolant specified is BASF Glysantin G40, which is generally a Volkswagen specific product. In any case, one type of coolant of a slightly different specification are not compatible with one another, unless otherwise stated.
Question, manufacturers handbook says replace coolant every five years. Product says 7 yrs 500000 km. Which one do you follow? Will the product be safe for 7 yrs?
I'm looking to put a HOAT in my 1.8 16V Zetec which currently has OAT in it. I will flush the entire cooling system / engine of the ute with deionized water and radiator detergent mixture first. Should this be a reasonable change? Pretty much adding the same coolent but with the hybrid element which reduces static risk to the sensors and better preserves any aluminum in the system.
I''ve 2016 Focus SE 2.0L and why does Ford not recommend alcohol or methanal coolant ? The one I just bought is supposed to be universal..but it's ethylene glycol
Help ASAP pls!! As a recommendation for BMW, I have a green coolant, but in the BMW Series 1 118D (2005) I just bought, I have a liquid that looks like water. Does anyone know how to check if it is a Waterless Coolant or Water?
There are test kits available. Have a look at the links in the description or your local speed/ auto store. But if in doubt drop it out and change it. MRT
@@Marksreviewsandtutorials Thank you. This Waterles Coolant is rare in Serbia. Few drivers know about its existence, I don't even know if it can be bought somewhere in Belgrade. Are the same measuring instruments used for it as for other coolants? Yeah, I tasted it, it's sweet. 😋
Mate im so confused ive got 2004 kia diesel that manufacturer say put ethaline glycol based coolant nulon says best choice is thier red super diesel coolant. Should i just stick with green ethaline glycol or would the red nulon diesel coolant be better for the engine? Any advice would be much appreciated.
I used a castrol concentrate it was yellow in my old 202 (steel block & head). It was good for corrosion protection. However I can't get this product anymore. I use green coolant now and now I have proplems with the aluminum parts corroding now (water pump/ thermostat housing) :( I'm not sure which coolant to use now. Basically there is type A & type B
type A is better.. For corrosion protection you need 50 % green coolant and 50% distilled water ( NOT tap water ) You can buy it premixed at 50% / 50% but you usually cant get all the old coolant out. google coolant for your model of car
the maintenance manual of my vehicles only mentioned glycol and distilled water mix, wondering why the commercial coolant have silicates and phosphate which are not compatible with aluminium, why the need for anti-foam when glycols are themselves wetting agent / humectant
Coral Sea I believe that marketing has bought a lot of confusion. That is part of why I did this video. To talk about the basic elements that are behind all of the hype.
Nice informative video, i just want to ask something, i'm in EU, my car manual recommends to use "type D" coolant fluid, but the manufacturer recommendation for that coolant is made in 2004 (assembly year of the car), when that coolant was probably the latest tech in this domain, what if i do a deep & complete clean of the whole cooling system, could i then use a more modern cooling fluid, like G12++?
Myke Vbiescu Have a look at the label of the new bottle of coolant that you want to buy. Many of them say compatible with all engine types or with all makes and models. If it says that on the label then you are fine. The newer cars have lots more elements and sensors in the coolant. Older cars tend to be less fussy.
Hi, I just checked my coolant and the colour is completely gone ! It was blue going in 3 or 4 months ago and now it looks like plain water. No leak, no topping up or dilution. Any thoughts on what it could be ? Thanks in advance.
UnCivilEngineerIRL I don’t know but my suspicion would be cheap product? The color is just dye. But if it is gone I would drain the coolant and replace with fresh. Did you fully drain last time? As the blend may have affected it as well. MRT
@@Marksreviewsandtutorials Thanks for the reply. Product seems fine in other machines but can't remember what it is or where I got it. When I got the bike it was full of horrible brown sludge; so I flushed it out with clean water and then coolant. Then filled the system with a 2:1 mix as specified by the coolant manufacturer. 3-5 months later it has completely gone clear.
Can I add a nanotechnology microcrack repair fluid to my 2010 Audi A6? How do I add it ? The bottle I have says not to put it into the reservoir. I have a tiny smell of coolant in my heater so, I know that's where the small leak is.
Arthur Breaux I wouldn’t add that to the heater element. Normally when you add that to an engine you are instructed to have the heater switched off or it will block up the heater element. I would be getting to the heat exchanger and visually inspecting it. It may just be a join. But don’t add that product unless you absolutely have to.
Valvoline explains the different color of coolant. You may put wrong one. You can buy Valvoline coolant. Valvoline is the giant company, so you won't mess up if you use correct one. Note: Valvoline coolant is almost as expensive as OEM coolant. www.valvoline.com/our-products/antifreeze-products/antifreeze-education/engine-coolant
+Joshua Duane Clark Hi Joshua. The color doesn’t actually define what is in the coolant. That is just dye. With an older truck you may not have all of the probes and sensors in contact with the coolant so std green is probably fine. Green comes with and without the anti freeze. Your climate will determine the need of that. But all vehicles should always have anti corrosive agents in there. Watch the video again if this is unclear. Mark
Hi Austin. The colours in coolant are dye not active constituents so going green just shows that the green dye was stronger. As I explain in this video the compatibility is in the inhibitors so if the inhibitors of the two coolants are compatible or better still the same, then you will be fine. If you are unsure, find out the manufacturer recommendation for coolant type and replace all your coolant with that. Every modern engine needs to have rust inhibitors in the coolant to protect the engine.
