  • There are many claims made about second language learning that have a strong hold on the public imagination. One of these is that memorising words, perhaps from lists or from through spaced repetition, is more efficient than acquiring words through input. Is this claim of greater learning efficiency or greater learning productivity backed up by the research? Dr McQuillan, a man of vast research experience, reviews the claim that Anki and other spaced repetition strategies.
We have seen many language learning channels refer to the efficiency of Anki and ask them if they would like to reply to the research discussed in this video. Debate and discussion is great for constructing knowledge. Our position is distinctly against the idea that you should memorise but we are keen to hear from those who wish to take the centre ground or prefer to say memorising is more efficient.

Dr McQuillan's work can be found on his website here. This is perhaps giving my secrets away as I have based quite a few videos around research on this page.
