Optimal fat loss happens when insulin is low. So imagine skipping breakfast and having lunch/dinner finishing your last meal at 6pm. You fast from 6pm-noon. This allows insulin to fully lower and around 8hrs per day your body is tapping into fat stores.
If you're eating 6x a day, you're constantly spiking insulin levels. Then after your last meal, at most you're getting 8-10 hrs before you eat breakfast. This is only enough time for your insulin to return to normal. So you never truly tap into bodyfat for energy. Now can you lose weight with 6x a day? Yes. But the ultimate goal is to drop excess fat which is not automatically tied to weight loss. This is why you see so many people that lose scale weight that still have high body fat percentages.

Ryan Deffley you are absolutely correct. Im on a keto diet with intermittent fast. I eat at 12:00 pm and 6pm. No snacking in between whatsoever. Every time you eat you raise insulin. A constant spike in Insulin will lead to weight gain. I started at 347 lbs. If I didn’t start this fast/diet I was easily going to be diabetic in the next 5 years. I have been losing about a pound ever 2-3 days consistently.

Eating smaller meals help insulin. Keto is different. Keto eats no processed carbs if you mix fat and carb its when insulin goes up if you eat too much. Therefore you store fat. But if you eat smaller meals your body wont store fat because your meals arent large.

it depends what you're eating those 6 times. Your insulin spikes off of large meals.

The funny thing about grazing is that your body adapts. You will secrete insulin throughout the entirety of the day (effectively making you inable to tap into fat burning and ketosis) and you will become hungry whenever you usally eat. (so basically all the time) in addition to becoming induced into fatigue for that very reason.

i've always seen it like a car engine. If you keep the engine on at all times will degrade the engine really fast. So eating twice a day allows the body to have long intervals where it is not digesting food, and helps the body live longer.

It's all about Insulin, the fat storage hormone. Every time you eat your Insulin rises and causes fat storage. I Eat 2 low carb meals a day, 6 am and 6 pm....dropped 10 pounds a month. 230 to 170. Still at 170 for 3 years now.
Stick to meat and vegetables like early humans did for millions of years. They didn't eat grains and carbs. The only time they ate fruit (fructose) was in summer to fatten up for the long winter. They dont teach much nutrition in Medical School. The emphasis is on diagnosis and medications, when food should be. You absolutely are what you eat.

I’ve been on intermittent Keto diet. All I eat are fats, protein and low carb vegetables. The only liquids I consume are water, tea and coffee. No sugar added of course. The way to lose weight with a 2 meal a day fast is to make sure not to consume anything in between your meals. Literally. All you drink is water in between. Do this consistently and you will be in better health and shed weight. You will not starve or lose muscle. This is the proper way to lose weight with only 2 meals. I eat at 12:00pm and at 6:00pm. That’s it.

It is important to separate people the eat the standard American diet(high glycemic index) and people that eat a plant based diet(low glicemic index). Probably if someone eats foods with high glycemic index, it is better for that person to eat small meals more frequently in order to avoid huge spikes on insulin. But if someone eats foods with low glicemic index, then that person can sustain a normal insulin level by eating with less frequency.

Disagree. I crash when I eat too much in one sitting. When I split my meals into small amounts (mainly vegetables/fruit and meat) I have 5 times more energy. And having that energy makes me more motivated to go for a run, lift some weights. So effectively I stay in better shape having more energy than not. If I ate only two big meals my blood sugar would spike and I'd feel less like working out. When you say six small meals I think it makes a big difference WHAT you're eating.

Another consideration is the size of our stomach. The stomach can stretch a LOT. If we are eating big meals, it seems the stomach doesn't get used to being smaller. I am trying to lose a bloated stomach. So I cut my meals back to small meals a few times a day. My stomach size is already going down. How this will help weight loss only time will tell, but it is nice to know that when I get hungry, I can eat something. Nothing predicts failure like low blood sugar and hunger. People get frustrated and angry if they can't eat when hungry.
