If I may, I’m going to insert a word, to be said in the drag queen Tatiana’s voice: “Choices”. Absolutely love it. I think the bit I love best about your videos is the utter shade and sarcasm. You also make me feel a lot better about my own sewing errors and skipping important steps (that turn out to be most important later on 😂)
even after the mask era, anyone getting close enough to notice an 8th inch difference in my shoulder seams is going to get the pointy end of my elbow in the closest, softest part of their body. 6 feet is still a good idea.
God I love your videos SO MUCH! Because you sew the same way I do, but you get it done. It makes me feel so much better when I sew the facing in backwards for the umpteenth time! I'm not the only one!
The little Porgs on your collar are so cute! And "cuff (hopefully)" slayed me. Biggest sewing mood. It turned out great! And friends do sew with friends! Colonel Mustard in the Hall with the Wrench? I may be too ADHD for this series. 😂
That is correct. I wasn't going to give every room or person, have to leave some of it to chance. Let me know your guess (and IG handle) and check back in on the 30th.
Watching you adjust every pattern is interesting. Pattern or readymade, I have to adjust everything. I dropped 2 sizes and decided to make my new clothes, they will fit much better. Nothing straightforward because I thrift all parts. I have accumulated enough parts to get started, yay! Quilting does compete for time. Oh yeah cross stitch too. At least gardening isn't competing at the moment.
Supposedly, to sharpen pinking shears cut aluminium foil with them. I haven't tried yet. Should get some dull ones and see if it works. Love your videos and now so does my daughter. She recommended you last weekend...little did she know.
I loved the this one and seeing you sew was awesome though most of the instructions were like another language to me! It looked incredible on you too xx
The instructions in older patterns come along with a bit of "understood" knowledge (some of which I have, some of which I don't). So yes, they take an extra bit to figure out for sure! And thank you so much!
Oh I just found you. Been binge watching. You totally sew exactly like I do. You have great intentions of doing it perfectly. Then oops. This isn’t matching. How do I do that? Ah, I’m just gonna do what I want. My seam ripper is my friend.
Do you have any thoughts on if one tried to turn Flappy Bits like that into pockets? I'd want to place them over the hip bones - as you mentioned. And obviously they'd only really be good for flat things like a phone or thin wallet. I'm thinking a heavier interfacing, probably on the front, so you don't see the outline of whatever is in the pocket, you just get a bit of a bulge. I guess my concern, is if there's weight in there, that when you sit down, they're going to flip to the side and fall off of the thighs. I guess that could be rectified by tacking the point down to the skirt? But, that unfortunately means I can't make a belt and Flappy Bits as separate pockets which could be used with multiple pocket-less skirts. Safety pins? Ultimately I'm just going to have to try it. But any insights, are appreciated.
Honestly, I would use the flappy bits to hide the pocket. I would create new slots directly underneath them and use them as a “door to Narnia” situation instead.
@Stephanie Canada *Blinking* Well that's a solid idea that hadn't occurred to me. And, apparently, far closer to how the 1917 Ladies 3 or 4 piece skirt is done. Having only looked at the line drawing, I hadn't realized the line down the center is actually a pocket slit. So THOSE flappy bit pockets (which it isn't apparent in the line drawing even are pockets) didn't even work the way I was imagining. I guess I can't use "I need more information" as an excuse anymore. :)
I just love your videos. I skip around or ignore the instructions all together and sometimes end up with regret and can relate to your sewing adventures. I've never played clue but am going to guess Ms Green with the garden gloves in the garden. My IG is Saturdaysewingdebbie.
Not a dumb question at all. Unprinted patterns were the standard until about the 1950’s. This is primarily because McCall had patented the printing process in the US and no one else could use it as he guarded it fiercely. alternate title for this video...how to make a dress out of a pizza hut table cloth. lol its a cute style of dress but the pattern throws it off for me. it does fit well though.

I know this is old but that fabric is divine
I'm the adventurous type but the best advice I give myself and it has proven to be a rule of safe-passage for many decades : "When in doubt, DON'T."

That dress looks crazy good on you! I love the fabric!
Yes it's now 3 years on and I just watched this video. This was beautiful and it would be awesome for you to maybe revisit it in a different fabric 😊
Nice job! The dress looks great on you and fits really nice.
Miss Scarlet was always my favourite
Mine too!

I like this series but had not discovered your videos back when you were making them. Thanks for keeping them available.
Oh, such a hoot!
I wish I could do as well as you. When I read pattern instructions, my head hurts.
I don’t think I have ever seen that many pins used when attaching a collar😊.
God I love your videos SO MUCH! Because you sew the same way I do, but you get it done. It makes me feel so much better when I sew the facing in backwards for the umpteenth time! I'm not the only one!
Thank you so much! Sewing takes time and effort. And undoing sometimes. 🤣
This dress is so pretty!!
The little Porgs on your collar are so cute! And "cuff (hopefully)" slayed me. Biggest sewing mood. It turned out great! And friends do sew with friends!
Colonel Mustard in the Hall with the Wrench? I may be too ADHD for this series. 😂
Oh you could see the Porgs! Huzzah!! I didn’t know if anyone would catch that. Check back on the 30th for the winner announcement.

Do I now need a 30’s/40’s evening gown to cosplay as Miss Scarlet now?
Really pretty!
Miss Scarlet is my favorite, because she’s red (my favorite color) and she goes first.
Also I know I’m way late but White, Wrench, Dining Room

This will probably be a dumb question but are all the patterns from the 1940’s unprinted? And when did the pattern companies begin to print on them?
Not a dumb question at all. Unprinted patterns were the standard until about the 1950’s.
