      I sell computers for a living and this is how I feel about all-in-one desktop PCs. People who aren't computer savvy think they will get the same performance as a true desktop tower and save money by not having to buy a separate monitor, so I make sure to tell them that all-in-ones almost always have laptop-grade CPU, RAM, and other components and that it's more practical to just buy a laptop at that point. The only practical use case I can see for an all-in-one is a doctor's office as they can have very little desk space and will never need to be taken home anyway.

    I like the thin profile, but one of my main issues with laptops is the fact that the gpu and cpu share the same heatpipes. So, while the gpu temps might be alright, cpu temps will be the same at lower power consumption or higher to the point of throttling due to a smaller die, leading to louder fan noise.

    Hey RGiHD, have you thought about reviewing any of the modular Framework laptops? • @HunterTracks

    • @nathanddrews
      @nathanddrews 4 місяці тому +1

      @@HunterTracks Except that Framework is rather unique in that when you replace the internal motherboard/CPU/RAM/GPU with something new, you keep the existing screen, keyboard, etc., so you have to create a shell/case for the old chipset. So you're basically converting the guts of your laptop into a NUC, not simply using the entire laptop as a server, etc.

    • @HunterTracks
      @HunterTracks 4 місяці тому

      @@nathanddrews I don't mean using the whole laptop as a server, I mean taking out the motherboard, sizing it up, making a 3D model and printing a new case for the internals. And then you did not even run Cyberpunk 2077 with DSR enabled... Dynamic Super Resolution. As you know, this enables you to set the in-game resolution to 4K. A resolution that approaches 4k versus native 2k. This makes a lot of difference (I mean, like a LOT). In the end of 2022 I bought the NUCXi7. I then bought CP2077. I got over 30 fps with RTX and DSR enabled. Without my really realizing it, I was enjoying 4K resolution on my 1440p display without my much realizing it. I had a great time playing that game. In the end of 2023, several patches/updates further down the road, the game was unplayable with these settings. I suddenly had to play on native 1440p with DLSS on performance and RTX turned off. One, pixellated mess. Especially when it rains. When looking out of a window on the topmost floor of a building, I would believe I was seeing a picture on the wall if I didnt know better. The sense of depth was suddenly gone. Debloating my GPU Driver (thank you Panjno) enabled me to go from performance mode to balanced, but that was it. Still a far cry from the visuals I enjoyed in the beginning of 2023 (DLSS on Quality, DSR plus RTX). I did not want to play the game with the 'optimizations' merely to get a solid 30 fps. The 8Gb vram was, of course, the bottleneck. And it is 2024 and... Minisforum will bring up the frame gen. feature that the 4070 offers. I get your decision not to use DSR. This is not a 4K system. But why could the NUCXi7 from 2022 handle it? Then DSR is not really 4K. It takes a desktop grade GPU to run CP2077 on a 4K panel (I at first accidentally typed '$K' panel). Anyone picking up this AtomMan G7 Ti (and is interested in CP2077, which anyone is who care to buy a computer like this) will play, not the 2.0 version of the Game, but version 2.13.... It was while typing an e-mail for friend in which I recommend the AtomMAn, when it suddenly hit me: I cannot, in all fairness, recommend this thing to him.

You will only find these in very high end gaming laptops, probably 2500$+. And Lenovo, Dell and HP will sell you mobile workstations with these for 3000$+. With that form factor you can choose your keyboard and screen with the advantage of a portable very powerful box. People that want this form factor for various reasons and with some money will be excited by this product. Though I wished they made a version without dGPU to lower the price if you don't need it. I think this thing exists for same reasons as asus gaming NUC. To obtain some patents and technologies, companies often do not buy them outright(it's pretty hard to buy intel) , but enter into production contracts or buy out divisions of other companies. As a result, they, along with the technologies, have some obligations to buy out and use a certain percentage of the boards produced, or obligations to continue developing and manufacturing a certain number of devices. But since Asus and Miniforum really only need the patents, they put minimal effort into these devices.

    It's like one of them cheap gaming computers with the built in keyboard from the '80s and early '90s, but without the advantage of being cheap.
    The reason those old computers were so cheap is 'cause they were passively cooled. It was just a single board, a few connectors and a plastic case cheaply slapped together. The only cooling you'd need was some vents in the top, maybe a heatsink or two, but once you needed fans etc. the engineering required to get everything to fit inside a tiny plastic case put the price up a few tiers and the people who wanted them(people who can't afford high end rigs) couldn't afford 'em anymore and they disappeared around '94 or '95.
    Seems to be making an odd comeback lately, but yeah, machines like this should probably stay in the past where they belong IMO.

    • @Lauren_C
      @Lauren_C 4 місяці тому +2

      Depends on power limits. At 140W, it trounces the 4060 (laptop and desktop are basically on parity), and gets closer to the 4060 TI.
      However, the 4070 capped to a much lower power limit (80W or so) falls back to 4060(115W) performance.
      So up to the 4060, you’re maintaining close parity, as the desktop parts of this tier aren’t power hungry, but above about 140W, the gap gets progressively wider with higher tier parts. The larger chips can crank out more performance per clock, but clocks also need to come way down to stay within power budget, and at low enough clocks, the efficiency gains probably aren’t worth the additional cost of implementation (hence why the AD102 chip never came to laptops).

    This is basically the worst of both worlds:
    Lack of portability of a desktop, limited upgradability of a laptop.
    There must be a market though as they're still making them. I wonder who buys them

    Two things stop me from buying this PC.
    1. I have no money.
    2. Intel 14th gen inside. I would prefer it with Ryzen or even Intel 12th gen. I just don't trust Intel's 13th and 14th gen CPUs any more.
    Otherwise I think they have a very good product there I would definitely buy. I like the form factor and not having the unnecessary keyboard, screen, battery.
    I really like this. I hope they keep improving it (love the cooling btw), and provide other options for CPU. I will still not be able to afford one, but at least I will feel bad for not being able to.
    Thanks for the video and for trying raytracing.

    it's meant more as an art piece or something that content creators will use
    since these things are way too god damn expensive, like that Ryzen Powered Tablet of their, it's 3000$

    For that price I'd rather build SFF PC. You'll get more powerful hardware than the laptop one and you can also pick and choose what kind of parts you want to include in the PC. You'll also get a lot more ports and it won't take that much more space on your desk and if you shop around, it will be cheaper too.
    Or I would just buy a laptop. This is probably for people who don't know any better and just see the specs on paper not realizing that laptop components even with same name are weaker than desktop parts.

    The main problem with gaming laptops and this as well is the soldered on CPU and CPU. When it fails (not if, when) the thing is only good for the bin. With a desktop individual things can be swapped out. Gaming laptops are working on borrowed time and will all fail and the funny part is most people who have them don't actually need them. Most people nowdays don't even need a PC at all and can do all their simple tasks on a phone.... at least in my country there's a lot of people with only 2 brain cells lol

    I've never liked gaming laptops due to the under powered nature of them plus the insane price. £1,249 ($1,655.99 USD) is crazy to me considering for that price you could buy a micro ATX desktop for that price with more power and yes while It wouldn't be as portable, you'd get more longevity with better price for performance. (also does anyone else see the vanoss owl for the logo?)

      IKR? I often hear reviewers say that efficiency doesn't matter for desktop users. And sure, it doesn't for many, but I live in Puerto Rico. We import our oil. Our power is expensive! I bought a mac mini secondhand just so that I could have a low power desktop that I could use 24/7, so that my gaming rig could be powered off most of the time.

      Desktop cards lately tend to push clock speeds very high even if it's only slightly faster than running at a marginally lower clock speed with drastically different power consumption. Power consumption and performance don't usually scale consistently with clock speed.

    I was looking into this mini PC world but i think laptops are still winning. If you buy a laptop you get a mini PC with screen and keyboard and a useless mouse. lol Mini PC is mostly viable for businesses or people who don't want to game just have a small workstation for excel and stuff and for movies.. If you travel a laptop is easier to handle and you only need a mouse the keyboard is not so crucial if you travel with mini PC you need a portable monitor 100-150 dollars at least.. and a keyboard and a mouse. Lots of cable and space compared to laptops..
