So basically... either Top Spin 4 was REALLY ahead of its time or it perfected the game and no one has actually made an honest attempt at a tennis game since it came out in 2011.
Top Spin 2K25 comes out sometime during the end of 2024. 2K actually has a large budget and a solid foundation to build on from Top Spin 4, so it should be a great game. As for other recent tennis games, almost all of them have been made by VERY SMALL indie devs who don't have enough budget (or non-realistic tennis games by Nintendo, but made by Nintendo's B-team of developers with limited funds), which is why a lot of them have suffered in quality. For example, I really enjoyed 2022's Matchpoint tennis (it has a lot of positive reviews on Steam for a reason, it's a fun and easy game to just kick back, relax, and have fun with) but even I will acknowledge the game has problems (the graphics are NOT good when it comes to the character models during gameplay when they show their faces up close and that's because of lack of budget. Meanwhile, the commentary, the crowd noise and the music is kept at a minimum due to low budget reasons. Which is a shame since the little music in the game is actually really good at times. They can't afford to have the license to events like Wimbledon, so they rename the event the London Grand due to low budget reasons, etc). But gameplay wise, I thought Matchpoint was a lot of FUN (which is the main reason I play video games) despite the game's flaws due to low budget. But 2K's Top Spin 2K25 should be able to be a game that surpasses Top Spin 4 since 2K has tons of money and they can to give the game everything it needs (the best graphics possible, all the licenses to all the major tennis tournaments, a very large staff of developers who will do great things with the things they need to create for the game, etc, etc) to be a classic.
@@johnpenguinthe3rd13 Dude. Thank you SO much for letting me know about 2K25. I'm so excited for that one. And at your recommendation, I'm going to give Matchpoint a shot. Honestly, I couldn't care less about the graphics (to a degree, of course). I care much more about the mechanics and how smooth it runs without glitching.
My TOP 5 1. Super Tennis SNES 2. Tennis Elbow 2013 PC 3. Top Spin 4 PS3 4. Virtua Tennis 2 Dreamcast 5. Hot Shots Tennis Get a Grip PSP (You missed this one) Great List, its impossible to put all the games, but nevertheless AMAZING WORK!! Thanks
Great video! I like your history videos that show the actual games, years , and platforms. You could extend this one back to 1958 - with "Tennis for Two" - a game developed on an oscilloscope.
Thanks for putting this video together - very interesting! I’ll definitely check out a few that I’ve never played. One small mistake I noticed - your Topspin video is the PS2 version which was a port of the Xbox version. The Xbox version was much better and maybe my all-time fav. I’ll still load it up on emulators from time to time, and I’m still discovering animations I’ve never seen - pretty amazing :)
Nothing will ever top Pro Tennis Tour 2 a.k.a Great Courts 2 on the Amiga. Still the most in depth Tennis Game I have ever played and super fun to play as well.
More generations of sports games love these lists thank you without you and VGL nobody would know about all the games unless looking it up on wiki i enjoy it this way much love and respect I’m from 1980 so seeing all of these years of gaming is nice brings me back
@thefedhd1580 Tennis Elbow has terrible graphics but the gameplay is pretty much spot on, the only game where I can feel like I have absolute control of the ball. With mods the game actually looks quite decent.
Intellivision and the Amiga were way ahead of their times. Tennis is a great sport for gaming it naturally translates over so well, why Rockstar Table Tennis was an early 360 showcase game
god, i wish gaming could still make progress like back in the 80s from literally squares that move up and down to pixel that actually resemble humans with moving arms - in 5 years! and the following years to the 90s... holy shit!
God mario Tennis 64 blew all of the other earlier games right out of the water from gameplay alone, let alone the soundtrack. you can tell all of the other games that came after modeled after Nintendo's take on the sport
@@marcosmarques982 That's why you think it's realistic? The perspective?😂😂 There are nany different TV perspectives, any game mirrors some of them, in many games you can even chose from different perspectives. That doesn't make it a realistic game.
@@elektrik_exekutioner6822 I completely desagree with you, in 2010s when I play the virtua tennis 4 I was seing the big 3 on TV the emotions and plays are similar to the real match of tennis, today we have a lot of games for tennis, but is to "arcade" or false simulation of tennis
I've never seen Top Spin 2 game before. All other game and film studios must go after the company that made the motion capture. It is better than Avatar 2.

Virtua Tenis 3 was amazing on ps3.
Such incredible graphics and movement for the time!

Great video. It would be interesting to watch a split screen game evolution.
FOR ALL YOUR VIDEOS TIME AND EFFORT THANK YOU
YOU CREATED A VIDEO WELL VIDEOS THE KID IM ME ALWAYS WANTED TO SEE

Out of all of the tennis games, Spin 4 looks like the most exciting out of them all.
But for simplicity, then Pong.

thanks
Yeah I was gonna say same thing game was pretty rad
Virtua Tennis 4 was my favorite so far!
Awesome tennis Classics 😎
Top spin 4 still the best tennis game ever
In player movement and realism of movement only. Full Ace and Tennis Elbow offer the better court experience. You are blinded by nostalgia.
@thefedhd1580 Tennis Elbow has terrible graphics but the gameplay is pretty much spot on, the only game where I can feel like I have absolute control of the ball. With mods the game actually looks quite decent.
Why 4? That one was much more arcade than 3

@@sulty0310 That is so awesome!! Can't wait for it!!
Top spin 3 was so much better. More realistic, better physics and better controllable movement. Let’s hope the new one will look more like that one

Happy National Tennis Pro Day 🎾👟 from VGE!
Why were the graphics slow in "Advantage Tennis" on Atari ST?
As we can see, as the console generations increased, the quality of tennis games deteriorated, the best was ps2/ps3 era.
Did anyone else find it weird that "Tennis" on Sinclair ZX81 was just like the first Tennis video game from 1972?
33:48 This is not a place, this is a game
Can you do Bowling video game evolution 🎳🎮🕹️?
0:13 this Pong 1972 isn't from atari 2600, it's from Arcade.
Exactly, Pong was Atari's first video game but the Atari 2600 didn't come out till 1977. I wish I still had mine.
I laughed out loud when I saw Davis Cup World Tour 1993 on the Genesis. The players looks and moves like body builders hahaha
0:32, Intellivision was ahead of everybody. My best friend Tim had one. I remember baseball the most, the controllers had so many buttons.
Nossa, jogava demais esse super tennis 87. Bons tempos kk
Was "Everybody's Tennis" kinda like "Everybody's Golf"/"Hot Shots Golf"?
5:29 That is such a high jump quality for 1990
My favorites always were Roland garros series
Top spin was the best
2:24 .. 1985 super tennis Nadal vs Federer 😂 that year nadal is still an idea for his parents
2:44 Did they miss the progress all the way from Pong?
The year is wrong, the Sinclair ZX81 was made from 1981 to 1984. It was a mini computer and yes cheesey graphics.
What was the point of the "Off the Wall" arcade game?
Were there really three "Jimmy Conner's Tennis"s in 1993?
Where's the player at in "RealSports Tennis" for Atari 2600?
What did the '4D' mean in "4D Sports Tennis"?
Wimbledon Championship tennis is my favorite, in my opinion the most reality and fun is the virtual tennis 4
Virtua Tennis has nothing to do with realistic gameplay at all.

😆 sounds like something I would do!!!!!
Forgot Racket Attack always superb with all sports videos though
What's a PC Engine?
There was a PC game in 1998 called Game, Net & Match
