This video is THE gold standard for anyone attempting a music tutorial on youtube. I saw 4:55 length and could not believe you'd hit all the instruments with nothing left out. Incredible. You've got multiple camera shots synced up... you've got staff notation, you've got tab. You've got full speed and half speed... you detailed the EFFECTS! Amazing, especially after I just watched a video with someone being like "okay put your ring finger on the 16!" lol. Bravo on the production -- you are all fantastic musicians.
One of my absolute favorite DOOM tracks of all time -- thank you lads for taking the time to break down the parts. I'm excited to have my band give it a try!
I think it's incredible what you've cooked up in a pedagogical sense. Short and straight to the point, making sure that all the elusiveness is stripped from the parts with no condescending attitude. Great job! And a great sound!
holy shit dont know if i've seen a tutorial like this before. so fucking sick especially for multi instrumentalists to see how each part comes together. please do more! subscribing
I feel like this mostly speaks to the ability of 70s musicians to jam a good song. This is a sample of Space Oddity for the Dune soundtrack, and our favorite sample is a couple seconds of that track, that acts mostly as a fun add on to the song, meaning there wasn't too much thought put into this part, it was a good chord progression and everyone came in after and it worked well. Make sure you're learning why these chords, rhythm and melodies work, there's reasons and you can apply them on the fly once you internalize them.
I play the bass guitar and drums and this is super helpful to find both tutorials for a song in one place rather than searching for different videos for each instrument. Thanks!!
I found a 10 year old unanswered reddit post, asking for "some talented" guitarist to figure out the tabs. Well I guess someone's finally gone and done it! Thanks so much
This is seriously sick i am starting a band in sixth form atm and this really helps so everyone can learn form the same video, keep it up love the work! p.s. pls make one for one beer xx
This was just perfect! Everything was explained in such a detail that everyone can follow it. Thanks so much for this video. Greatest track of MF DOOM!!!
Great tutorial in every way, straight to the point and very insightful. Only bad thing from it is that I am blue balling myself by not listening to the rap part 😂
Super cool to see this video guys, i remember when i found the first short on this channel on Rap snaches like an hour it was posted and beening blown away by MF DOOM music and how you guys played it, i even missed the all caps memo on my comment on that short and now its the top comment on it with his name not in all caps lol i just updated it to but, keep up the good work✊️
They're mixed into our full version but I feel like before you hear it isolated it's real hard to pick it out. You have to almost hear it on it's own to reverse engineer it in your brain when you go back to our full version. It was always meant to be subtle though - Corben, our keys player, is the one who mixed it after all...hah!
@OMA Band subtle for sure. If I'm gonna pick apart music, I look at the police - every little thing she does is magic. It had always been one of my fave tracks of all time and there's SO much going on in it, why I love it so much.
Great Video! I love how simple and effective the layout of this is. I don't want to be pedantic, but I just wanted to add that the first B minor chord is in root position and is not inverted. Additionally the F#m chord is in Second Inversion not 3rd since the 5th scale degree is in the bass.
try slowing it down and trying to pick it up by ear. I'm just replacing the two pre-bends that are normally there with a lick I heard Mark Speer play. It's basically a little mordent (I think it's called in classical terms), where I'm bending up to a higher note, returning to normal, pulling off on a lower note, and then there's another note after that's lower as well. Then it picks right back up to the standard melody - it runs into it seamlessly if you get the timing right.
i can finally hear the keyboard part properly lmao
Lmao
SAMMMEE XDDD
didn't even know there was a keyboard until now

I am not a musician, but I watch every cover, tutorial, etc, of my favorite DOOM song, this was incredible
so you watch the tutorials, without intent on playing it?

I never realised how sick the drums are on this track. I’m not surprised but it still feels like I learned something. Thank you!
1:42 bass part
This has nothing to do with playing but I find bands who have a lefty guitarist/bassist to be so cool

Oh my God! Listening the song instrument by instrument and then having them join altogether at the end feels like a revelation. You guys are awesome!
More more more! Love learning the drum beats like this with the whole context
