- The plaintiff claimed she has been the breadwinner for over 10 years while the defendant was laid back and performed none of his fatherly roles to the family, now she is tired and requested for separation. The defendant claimed the plaintiff continued to deny him conjugal pleasure, but he wants his family together.

This Jugde is amazing! I live in the USA, and I have seen and watched courtroom dramas but none comes close to the our Naija Judge. She’s compassionate, humble and willing to work with both parties to resolve their issues. She’s very realistic in her approach and doesn’t just give judgment but very practical. Take 5, Your Honor!!

Truth of the matter is that Judges do take their time before they dissolve unions. Cause they would want them to go back, try to kick off old habits which happens to be the root cause, ask them seek counseling & see if it works & she sure said it that she won't have a choice if it doesn't but she does not apply that violent relationships/Union.

This was exactly what my dad did to my mum,always travelling away early in the morning when he knows she will ask for money and coming back when he feels things are settled...I just thank God things turned out well for all of us,now my dad be looking for how to play a fatherly role now that we are adults...Feel like slapping this man and hugging this lady just to give her strength

I don't I like that too. But I guess she's just doing her job.the law behoves the court not to grant divorce instantly unless they've explored all avenues to reconcile the marriage and it doesn't work. Even lawyers are supposed to try to reconcile the marriage before they can represent a client in a divorce proceeding.
The judges' hands are tied, she must do as it is required to do by law, the litigants will go through the process but at the end of the day ,the heart knows what it wants.

A threat to life is a criminal offense. No anger justifies such a threat. Nobody should be afraid in their home. There should be Zero tolerance for any abuse. The court cannot rule lightly on such cases. Immediate separation is a must plus get the wife counseling for herself so that she can learn to love herself and set boundaries. Abusive people hardly ever change even with counseling. Do the research. He is using his words to destroy her and she is brave enough to tell the court. It is a pity that the judge doesn't understand abusive men. They appear so charming in public and yet can become a lion in the house. He will not change his behavior. A good man will never insult her and abuse her and threaten her life. If he is a great lover, she would never deny him even if he is jobless. He is mostly very selfish and she feels used....what a pity to see that the court is clueless. Emotional abuse is destroying this lady's health. Please grant her the separation and retraining order. He cannot be allowed to stalk her and call her repeatedly that is hassasment.

Court don't investigate. It solely relies information from parties in the suit, stare decisis, content of the petition, witnesses, counsels to the two parties.

The petitioner will do that by probable cause from court (obtained by Police) in case of criminal investigation. However, there are exceptional cases where expert witnesses might be required which come from either of the counsels... Judges rely on stare decisis, petition content, witnesses.. and so on.... That's why as a lawyer when filling.. You critically look at procedure and substance of your matter... Else you belabour the court....Your case can be thrown out..

I hope going forward this judge begins to start taking domestic violence allegations seriously. It worries me that she said " i don't think this man will kill you". She is a judge not a psychologist. I love her, but I'm worried about some of the futures of our sisters
I am as well. Loving this court and a lot of her judgments but her approach to domestic violence like i have observed is flawed. Seriously
While your submission are valid, but investing a country well before commenting will help you understand more. This is an Alternative Dispute Resolution court.
In the country legal system, a case of physical violence from Female to male, from wife to husband or vice versa is a criminal offence and treated via the criminal justice system legally. This composition of this court does not allow it hear criminal cases therefore the good Judge can't do much. That is why she always advice to report to the police 🚔.

When a woman is working and the husband isn't, the woman is always referred to as "HARD WORKING" and not vise versa. Normally, the man will work and borrow to ensure the family is comfortable, the lady will not develop any depression and nobody will be denied his/her rights etc, etc. You'll never find the family anywhere near a court nor hear about domestic violence etc. But as soon as the reverse happens, you will hear about everything and anything to an extent of someone wanting space and separation etc, etc. Sometimes I just wonder about this. Meanwhile, this judge is not helping much, she has only helped to demean the man - "work on her, win her over" is a statement akeen to ladies when nature favors them and she's made it in bad faith.

As a court show lover I was so happy to see an African version. But after this episode I will not be watching anymore. Abusive women are normally not heard or taken seriously. And I think these women have hope in a female judge to be on their side. I have been watching for some days now and this judge dropped the ball on all the divorce cases. Greetings from Amsterdam!

Firstly, I will like to commend the judge for a perfect judgement. The woman is a treasure to the man and he should not lose her. I also pity the man, there is nothing honourable for a man to lose his crown I.e jobless and not been able to cater to his family. As he is, he has lost his right. I pray for them that God will restore their marriage and return the glory of the man.
I am extremely disappointed in Judge Funmi for glossing over that death threat like that. "I don't see this man has somebody that would kill you.." How can you possibly know that ma? Dem dey write an for face? She was way too casual about it and putting words in his mouth, asking leading questions. "you said it out of anger ABI?" Very very wrong. It's not like there's no precedent. Pathetic men like this kill their wives all the time. She didn't even address the domestic violence.

Well he did say he had a business and she's probably one of those women that thinks oh he has something doing and has a place he's staying, I can marry him.
He was doing well before. Looking at that woman, she's not that old but she has been stressed out. In 3 yrs, she has lived in three houses. You know most Nigerians don't plan. When things are going well for the husband, they think it will be like that forever. Many barely have savings. Also, people need to do proper family planning. 4 kids are too much.
