I think The Summer Without Men has been my first book by Hustvedt and I didn't expect a lot (mainly due to the horrendous cover) and I really loved it. The Shaking Women might be my favourite book of the ones I've read by her so far. I enjoyed Small Island, but not as much as expected, mainly I think because it was longer than it needed to be.
There’s something about a list. While I’ve been having my reading slump, thankfully recovering now, I made list after list of possibilities and it helped I’m sure. Emily Wilson really nails it when it comes to her translations. Good haul Britta.🤗
I had just finished "Songbirds" by Christi Lefteri and just couldn't decide what to read next. After seeing your video, I realized it was time for a re-read. Thank goodness "The Secrets ...." was in my bookcase. Thanks Britta.
Loved your video as always! I am currently reading The Odyssey in the translation by Emily Wilson and for the first time in my life I made it past the first few pages. I'm doing about a chapter a day and I am truly enjoying it. I bought The Iliad as well, which is next on the list. I don't mind about gory details, so I'll be allright!
I’ve read all of and adore Siri Hustvelt, prefer her fiction. The only author apart form Sarah Hall and Jhumpa Lahiri that I have every book proudly on my shelves The Levy book is wonderful. One of the best books ever written in my view. Enjoy!!!!
I look forward to hearing your updated thoughts on “The Secrets We Kept”. I was expecting much more of a reading “high” from it. It paled in comparison to some true espionage accounts which I had read prior to reading Secrets. “A Woman of No Importance” and “Madame Fourcade’s Secret War” were much more satisfying reading experiences.
I want to recommend you read Quickly While They Still Have Horses by Jan Carson. This is a short story collection; funny and at the same time slightly horrifying.
Looking seriously at that Iliad. Always interesting recommendations here. I am finishing in Amanda Cross book the first in the series that book chat with Pat recommended. Really enjoying it. And starting the Vulnerables, Nunez. the Shaking Woman now on my list.
Had to read Edith Hamilton's Mythology and the Iliad and Odyssey in high school, poor Priam with Achilles dragging his son Hector around the walls of Troy, I liked the Illiad best. I loved Buddha in the Attic.
I still need to read that translation of The Iliad. It’s on my shelf (of course, 😂). Thank you for the reminder!
It's really excellent!
Hello Britta, I really liked the Blazing World of S. Hustvedt. Thanks for your videos. They are always interesting. Bye from France 😉

Yes, team Siri Hustvedt!! ❤️ I hope I will like Small Island as much as you did.

I will report back after my re-read!
I keep hoping I will run across Emily Wilson’s translations in a used book sale. No luck so far. Guess I will have to break down and buy new copies! 😂
Or maybe get it as a present? (*Making a mental note 😀*)
LOL don’t you dare! Those books are expensive!
I want to recommend you read Quickly While They Still Have Horses by Jan Carson. This is a short story collection; funny and at the same time slightly horrifying.
Thank you very much for the tip, I will check it out!
I'm adding this to my list Cion. I just read a book of short stories by Carys Davies and loved it. Ready to try another set of short stories.

I love the Hamilton-book! Now that I think of it: maybe it's time for a reread. ☺️
I normally read all of Siri Hustvedt! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Team Siri Hustvedt, yay! ❤️
Oh, I'll be interested to hear your review of The Iliad. Not sure I am up for reading it, but like reviews.
The Wilson-translation is really fabulous!
