The Iskander has a reduced range because there are international restrictions on such missiles, as far as I know. If necessary, then it can have a longer range, I think.

At it's peak the soviet air force had over 10,000 in service aircraft. Today the Russian air force has less than 10% of the fighters/bombers that they used to have, why? Because maintenance and training was too expensive, the rest were either scrapped or left to rust. These planes have really old radars with no hope of detecting stealth planes, really old radar guided missiles that can't hit stealth planes. If a 'real war' did kick off and it was USAF vs Russian air force, it would be the equivalent of a mass shooting event in an old people's home for the blind. All of these pilots would die before they even knew there was an enemy plane in the sky. They might get a few seconds warning that a missile had been detected but only the most modern and upgraded jets that Russia has.

perhaps the Iskander had classified long range versions for war time all along. Switching to a more explosive propellant could make it go faster and longer simultaneously.

The Iskander has a reduced range because there are international restrictions on such missiles, as far as I know. If necessary, then it can have a longer range, I think.

Logically however the majority of a missile's energy is is spent getting up to a certain altitude and speed. If an Iskander started a run miles in the sky and flying at the speed of sound it would automatically give it much longer range than before. Your point acted as if the missile would still project only 500km past the airplane but that is silly and ridiculous because it obviously would be able to go way further than before even without modification. The article you shared seemed like it was written by an uninformed author because it described iskander missiles having ballistic profiles when it is known that they are non ballistic maneuvering type of missile. It is also silly to assume that because a missile shares a profile similar to that of a previous model that it does not have any improvements. Russians a known for having many variants of things that look the same to keep a would-be enemy unsure of what they are really up against retaining an element of surprise.
I love how we in the West think their kit is not as good as ours because we have more fancy gizmos and gadgets and whatchamecallits. Just wait till it kicks off for real and all that shit has to be maintained in a real, real war....
At it's peak the soviet air force had over 10,000 in service aircraft. Today the Russian air force has less than 10% of the fighters/bombers that they used to have, why? Because maintenance and training was too expensive, the rest were either scrapped or left to rust.
These planes have really old radars with no hope of detecting stealth planes, really old radar guided missiles that can't hit stealth planes.
If a 'real war' did kick off and it was USAF vs Russian air force, it would be the equivalent of a mass shooting event in an old people's home for the blind. All of these pilots would die before they even knew there was an enemy plane in the sky. They might get a few seconds warning that a missile had been detected but only the most modern and upgraded jets that Russia has.

Umm bear in mind that Russia has roughly the same GDP as Spain, in terms of wealth Russia couldnt sustain a war with the west. The Allies supplied and equipped Russia with a lot of equipment in the last big one, I dont think they ever settled their tab for that one either.

Patriot PAC -3 couldn't even intercept Houthis crude 1944 designed katusha type tube rockets, when they launched it against Saudi Arabia at petroleum sites. Out of 53 Tomahawk missiles launched in Syria in 2018 only 18 hit their targets. The rest missed. Do you remember that Abraham M2 tanks were busted in Iraq by insurgents. Our weapon systems are worse than theirs. PAC-3 system failed several times in Israel. I don't think over priced F-35s with a lot of problems are any machines better.
