Actually seems like a plausible post-apocalypse film. Humans are social creatures. Time and time again it has been shown that people band together in times of crisis, and small tribes of people form tight bonds to each other. It’s nice to see an end-of-the world scenario that has an optimistic perfective.
yeah most movies and TV shows always go the way of stuff like the Walking dead, where people just become horrible. Its strange how hollywood loves to push the idea that the only thing keeping us behaving is the strong arm of the government, and that humans need to have people in charge so they don't turn into monsters. I personally believe that things won't be that bad. There are plenty of societies around the world that have functioned without a powerful government in charge, and while they do have inter tribal conflict on a more frequent basis, they don't just go crazy robbing and killing one another either.
Where is the realism.. in most people getting along? In medicine and fuel never going bad? Or in a 32 year old actor who looks even younger with teenage kids?

Many medications do last forever, and most of the rest just lose potency over time. As far as the actor, I hate when they use those aging techniques. I guess you never heard of "suspending disbelief" for thing that are impossible. Like making an actor age actually 50 years during production.

FIrst time I had a question about how long fuel lasts was when WIll Smith was racing a Mustang in I am Legend :D Also, could be he just had access to the local gas station tanks, once they went dry, he had to scavange from other vehicles
Movie screenwriters should understand that medicine has an expiration date, and would not work years or decades later. Same for gasoline, it does not last for years.
Movies and TV shows rarely depict anything related to medicine properly. I'm happy when they actually shock people for ventricular fibrillation instead of not having a heartbeat. You can't reset something that doesn't exist.

Around 40 years ago for me. There was a whole thing about the hammer becoming a holy relic and when the main protagonist is dying of old age, the hammer gets passed to his successor.
I also read it in high school, and just re-read it a few months ago. Great book. But my question is why I've never heard of this movie version. I wonder where I can stream it.

yes but there are roughly 15 Billion habitable acres across the globe, so finding each other could be quite a problem. Also imagine that your family and friends all died in front of you and you thought you were the only survivor on earth, there's probably a great many people who survived the virus but failed to thrive in solitude and took themselves out of the equation. Some would chose to live out their lifespan alone, some other small isolated groups wouldn't have enough genetic diversity and would die out in a few generations. Rebuilding and repopulating would be a pretty big undertaking. I think this was pretty accurate as to how it might possibly go down.

Not really, Australia periodically has similar problems with mice. Likely Rats & mice numbers would explode because of all the food left. They would quickly multiply & than start roaming in swarms after the food runs outs. Their numbers would be in the millions.

A few years ago, a small town in Australia decided wild cats were destroying the environment and they massacred them. The bubonic plague came back. Because a baby would complicate every element of survival. Regardless of -complications at birth that could harm the mother or child, you now have another mouth to feed and look after. I don't think he would have been as frightened, had he already had an established group.
So how long is few days exactly? Unless the virus was released everywhere all at once theres no way that the whole world would be infected and dead in a few days time. And the guy would be dangerously dehydrated and would need afew rounds of IV fluids to get back to normal if he slept for several days withiut water.
So if a good hundren people are alive in California, there is hope that there's more survivors around the world. I read that there was a point in human history where there are no more than 10,000 people alive. Wish they did a movie on that.
The one thing that always bothers me about movies like this is gasoline. It lasts for a year if stored properly with fuel conditioner. Always completely ruins these movies for me when they're trying to be realistic.

Unpopular opinion: A post-apocalyptic world could never be ruled by "nice guys" as portrayed here. With resources being very scarce, a 'family' camp like the one in this movie would become an 'army' camp VERY quickly. Men would become rulers/guardians, women would become baby factories. Any male outsiders would be immediately killed or enslaved, while women would be captured and absorbed into the community. This movie shows what a post-apocalyptic society might look like, if it had a magic food source was available. Clearly, any apocalyptic event would cause food supplies to go down to near zero in a few months. Law of the jungle would ensue.
This is an actually believable movie. 9.5/10 for realism. Docked 0.5 because of not considering expiration dates on things and also due to the weird rat infestation, which would likely never have gotten that bad. But overall, excellent plot.
What people don't understand about the title is that this is the fourth Apocalypse in a row that happened in that reality. Each killed 99%, so you're left with 80 people at the end which is not so far from 100. Not a good reality to live in IMO.
