@vdiva18 The main reason for that is that the newest DI takes the maggots out for initial drill. After initial drill the drill goes from the EDI teaching drill to the SDI taking over and finishing the drill movements to include the *special* movements. We also spend a lot of time with our NCO sword as WE are graded at final drill also so we have that thing in our hands a lot and it just becomes an extension of your arm I guess. I never thought about it much until you mentioned it.
drill instructor. things must have changed since 1991. i was 2nd battalion, hotel company, plt 2037. for initial drill it was our senior green belt that took us out for initial drill. he and our senior were the only 2 ( we had 5 drill instructors) drill instructors who taught drill. the other green belts simply assisted ( corrected us), made sure our thumbs were on our trouser seams, etc. we stated with 3 drill instructors and picked up 2 more towards the end of first phase.
ahh 2nd BN, I was in 2nd BN Hotel company 2090, and my senior DI was SSGT Gunther in '96. To all those about to enter the Marine Corps, let me tell you this, graduating - walking across that parade deck, after such tough training. There is no greater feeling, the pride and honor you feel just for yourself can never be duplicated. That is your mission, never fail, never slack. Its tough, but tough for a reason! You'll understand why, when you march across that parade deck.
The platoon i was in kicked every platoons azz in Kilo Co. series and follow in initial drill. When Plt 3005 won that trophy we get to watch a movie "The Patriot"
I was Platoon 2090, 2nd Bn, from 25 Aug 85- 15 Nov 85..... GySgt Torbert as Senior Drill Instructor, w/ Drill Instructors Ssg Cherney and Ssg Wynn..... contact me if you were here !!! 0311 Semper Fi !!!! OHHRAHH !!!!
@kingtaythe2 He is the Guide of the platoon. The guide is typically the one who displays the most leadership in the platoon, is physically and mentally sound and is HIGHLY motivated at all times. Come to think of it... I was the guide of my platoon (2077) back in 1987.
Also, my brother is a Marine, and we talk all the time. Play XBox together and the whole nine and we both honor our own branches and he and I are the few servicemen that understand it is more important to honor the other branch with our warrior hearts as much as we honor our own branch.
@dmellow45 lol, that 2BN for you. Shit if we were cough sparkling we would be making sand angels face down. LOL loved every moment of boot. Nothing stressful just all in your heads.
When was this video shot? Old cammies and boots. Still in the 1990s? The real question is it pre-crucible boot? Odd how these recruits look meaner, tougher and bigger than the ones in the more recent boot vids. Oh, and better at drill too.
@dave17815 This isn't always the case...It depends on your MOS and if you can be let go to do a "B" billet....sometimes your monitor won't let people out to do a "b" billet
@TOWgunner77 I've noticed the same thing. The Corps is a bit different now that they've been in a combat mode for the better part of 7 years. Not that it should change the physical standards or anything. It's a good question though. No... did not know a McCoullough.
@usmcsdi69 Omigod. This is nuts. I was platoon 2093, graduated in June '95. Do you know SSgt Saunders, SSgt Thomas, or SDI SSgt Scarborough, by any chance? Wonder if you guys ever overlapped duties..?
@dvdludlum That one recruit at 3:28 is an idiot. Not sure why he didn't inspect his chamber. However, if you do mess up during COD, you are not supposed to correct yourself until given the command to do so by your DI or SDI. The command is "Inspection Arms"
@usmcsdi69: I heard about that. That stinks not being able to Roll the Sleeves up on Garrison but it is what it is. Love the Corps but that was 1 thing I loved once the Spring Time came that we could Roll our Sleeves up. I heard our Brothers in the Army can't either now.
@TOWgunner77 This would be late March or early April 1996. Pre crucible. I left the island in March of '97 and I don't think a cycle had done the crucible yet.
@scooniepenn That was the series guns. surprised nobody caught that! The reason I filmed was so I could show the platoon what they were doing wrong. We probably caught it in the squad bay later!
3rd battalion is known for physical discipline n ruthless pitstops, 2nd battalion is known for drill!!, and 1st battalion is known for knowledge n nastyness and 4th is just girls
@usmcsdi69 No, no sgt you seriously have gunny roles lol even my commies could have given you a paper cut lol. Man i miss that place, i should have been a DI instead of getting out. Its been almost 10 years since i left boot but maybe 6 since i been back to the island. Do you know a Ssgt MOORE (my former senior and silent Drill team member?)
I'm a DEP Poolee and my ship date is just a month away so i'm trying to learn absolutely as much as about close order drill and whatnot before i go, so my question is at 3:28, why does the one recruit not do what the rest are doing? and if someone could please exactly explain what the command "Inspection _____" is? i didn't quite hear what came after "Inspection".. =/. would appreciate it
@FretBanger LMAO... kidding right? RIGHT? You cannot compare ANYTHING the fucking ARMY does to what these kids that aren't even Marines yet can do. Take your bullshit to some fucking Army dog that might listen to your horseshit!
@usmcsdi69 do you happen to know SDI SSGT McCoullough? He got out as a SSGT I believe. He was my senior. I was Plt 1117, reservist and then went active. Why do these recruits look 1. fitter than the ones today and 2. why are these recruits noticeably better at drill? FYI, My compliments SDI, excellent job. I've watched a couple recent vids of boot, the recruits look...well...weaker?
@FretBanger Are you fucking serious? I have done my time on the trail as a Drill Sergeant F/795 14th MP BDE and earned my title as a Marine in 94. I can tell you for one inspection arms in the army is slightly different. Second, Marine recruits are far more disciplined and go through a much tougher basic training. BTW, yes you should hear one sound, but if you read SGT White's video topic this is practice aka preparation, not the real deal killer. Save your garbage for someone else.
Man I miss the old cammies and boots.... that was always the best way to know the shitbirds and nonhackers from the squared away

@madnessknight2010 Enjoy the New Corps! I liked the *old* Corps .... but also saw tons of changes in my 10 year career!
jesus look at the cover and alignment
but the one dude in 3rd squad .. fucked up the inspection arms horribly
drill instructor. things must have changed since 1991. i was 2nd battalion, hotel company, plt 2037. for initial drill it was our senior green belt that took us out for initial drill. he and our senior were the only 2 ( we had 5 drill instructors) drill instructors who taught drill. the other green belts simply assisted ( corrected us), made sure our thumbs were on our trouser seams, etc. we stated with 3 drill instructors and picked up 2 more towards the end of first phase.
wow this was forever ago!! these marines still have BDUs!!! that's kool

Ha I was 4 in '96 I should be at MCRD San Diego in about 9 months
The platoon i was in kicked every platoons azz in Kilo Co. series and follow in initial drill. When Plt 3005 won that trophy we get to watch a movie "The Patriot"
that one recruit at 3:29 didnt look down the chamber on the inspection arms, the DI and drillmaster were looking right at him, how did they miss that?
Freakin shit hot on the drill, just stellar in instruction and execution.

If you F up in drill you are to *freeze* and the SDI will scan the platoon and make any corrections as necessary.
Also, my brother is a Marine, and we talk all the time. Play XBox together and the whole nine and we both honor our own branches and he and I are the few servicemen that understand it is more important to honor the other branch with our warrior hearts as much as we honor our own branch.
@0311GRUNT My rolls are squared the fuck away!
@dmellow45 lol, that 2BN for you. Shit if we were cough sparkling we would be making sand angels face down. LOL loved every moment of boot. Nothing stressful just all in your heads.
No other plt on the island in 2001 could compete with PLT 1050 A co. man best day o my life Semper fi
When was this video shot? Old cammies and boots. Still in the 1990s? The real question is it pre-crucible boot? Odd how these recruits look meaner, tougher and bigger than the ones in the more recent boot vids. Oh, and better at drill too.
after port at 3:29 why did the recruit to the right of the black drill instructor in the 2nd row not put his gun up?
Im shipping to army basic soon yeah I agree with you they only send you to the army instead of jail not the marines.
@dave17815 This isn't always the case...It depends on your MOS and if you can be let go to do a "B" billet....sometimes your monitor won't let people out to do a "b" billet

Omigod. This is nuts. I was platoon 2093, graduated in June '95. Do you know SSgt Saunders, SSgt Thomas, or SDI SSgt Scarborough, by any chance? Wonder if you guys ever overlapped duties..?

Feb of '96.
@dvdludlum That one recruit at 3:28 is an idiot. Not sure why he didn't inspect his chamber. However, if you do mess up during COD, you are not supposed to correct yourself until given the command to do so by your DI or SDI. The command is "Inspection Arms"

Heading home from p.I. now I am 2093 hotel myself!!!! We can't roll sleeves anymore :(
@usmcsdi69: I heard about that. That stinks not being able to Roll the Sleeves up on Garrison but it is what it is. Love the Corps but that was 1 thing I loved once the Spring Time came that we could Roll our Sleeves up. I heard our Brothers in the Army can't either now.
Why the hell is that Guide so damn hunched over. I'm sure you locked his ass on about that, Senior...
@TOWgunner77 This would be late March or early April 1996. Pre crucible. I left the island in March of '97 and I don't think a cycle had done the crucible yet.

Congrats on your new title Marine! Shoot son... What were you like 5 years old in '96. Damn I am getting old!

@dvdludlum Don't worry about COD. Just know your 11 General Orders and you'll be okay.
=/. would appreciate it
@shtrnd41 I was D co Plt 2077 in 1987! Ahhhh YUT!
Uh-oh...I see a platoon's grounded gear in the first few frames of the clip. I know what *that* means!
@FretBanger LMAO... kidding right? RIGHT? You cannot compare ANYTHING the fucking ARMY does to what these kids that aren't even Marines yet can do. Take your bullshit to some fucking Army dog that might listen to your horseshit!
the guy with the flag is lucky he doesnt have to go do all of that
usmcdi69 by any chance were you with plt 2005 in Hotel Co 2nd RTB which graduated Sept 23rd 1994?
@usmcsdi69 do you happen to know SDI SSGT McCoullough? He got out as a SSGT I believe. He was my senior. I was Plt 1117, reservist and then went active. Why do these recruits look 1. fitter than the ones today and 2. why are these recruits noticeably better at drill? FYI, My compliments SDI, excellent job. What were you like 5 in April of '96?
@usmcsdi69 Oh!! I didn't know it was you!

@thereddog223 thats false! ANY military instead of jail today is illegal!
Squared away... Hooah
@usmcsdi69 kill
@drifter847 No, Being a Sergeant in the Marine Corps dose not make you a Drill Instructor.
@FretBanger from what i have seen of the army they are pretty garbage compared to the marines
