  • T.D. Jakes continues his sermon from the series Work Your Faith, “The Discipline of Doing.”
In this message, Bishop Jakes speaks about building a strong and sure foundation. Doing this requires effort. It requires patience. It requires tenacity. It requires discipline. There are no shortcuts if you want to weather the storms of life.
Bishop Jakes points out in the parable of the two men who built houses - one on sand, one on a rock - that they both faced the same storm. One broke. One survived. One was a hearer. One was a doer. Which one are you?
Part of what requires discipline is that most people will not appreciate the work it takes to build a stable house. The foundation and supports are usually hidden. But if we only focus on what people see, the outward appearance, eventually that façade will crumble and fall.
In the passage, “be doers of the Word, and not hearers only,” T.D. Jakes highlights the action. Being a “doer” implies effort. Being a “hearer” implies passivity. If we don’t put in the work, if we don’t exercise the discipline necessary to strengthen our faith, we won’t be ready for the trials ahead. And we won’t be ready for the blessings of God either.
Do you want to receive the promises of God? Do you want to “having done all, to stand?” Learn how to cultivate discipline, grow up strong, and build something that will last. Watch “The Discipline of Doing.”
