A question in my mock about the dance style of Uday Shankar dragged me here. I was curious how he came up with his own style of dance. Now I'm totally startled how he fused European theatrical techniques with India's very own classical dance and the editing man!!!
He didnt come up that way - his family were court dancers and around his fathers time they formalised their previously court funded schools into charitable status teaching establishments - in Bengal the Uday School is a big cheese with maybe 70-80 students many of whom are men as Uday was very innovative inn regard to gender moves in his style which is natural and very elegant without being held rigidly in THE Dance gatekeepers grip …his son Ananda continued in the same vein musically

can anyone write a few words about this dance. Was it a part of the 1948 film "Kalpana" or part of a dance drama "Abhisar" based on Tagore's poem of the same title? Was it possible to create such 'actions' during a live stage performance?
to each their own. If you can't see the skill, the precise movements, the fluidity, the theatrics, incorporation of ballet and mime, the sheer modernity of this little piece that stands the test of time, its your loss. We appreciate the "unusual level of creativity" :)
I could not believe in 1940's era this level of editing happened. And the dance movements and the dancers amazing. Its wooooowwwwww 😍😍😍😍😍😍

The dance is from cinema kalpana. Creation of uday sankar .the dancer is Amala shankar
