As an Australian I’d like to say one thing I’ve always loved about Americans is that when they feel a cause is just, they don’t wait for a government to tell them to go. They just go. A long history of it. Lafayette Escadrille, being a prime example from ww1. The fighters who fought the Battle of Britain while the USA government still faffed about whether or not fighting the 3rd reich was worth it. Gotta respect these people. Fighting a war is tough. Fighting a war that is not your own for reasons that matter to you. That’s the definition of putting your money where your mouth is.

I thank them so much for heading out there to train them. Considering how long the war has been going on now, it seems like they must’ve headed out there only a few days after the invasion started. It is a shame they can’t stay for longer, but I guess they do have to return to their families who inevitably need them to support them as well. I truly hope that other veterans will head over to help continue the training. As for around the world will probably be helping the Ukrainian official trainers with the newest recruits but right now need all the help they can get. My neighbor is an Army vet and he wanted to volunteer in Ukraine. However, he was told he'd lose his VA benefits if he did. That makes me respect these veterans even more.

That is terrible, wrong and unacceptable, but the leading causes of civilian death in Iraq were terrorist bombings, torture and execution. It is argued that coalition forces were still responsible for those, since they were in control of the country and it was their job to make it secure.

The volunteers are stepping up without prodding from their country, and they do so because they feel a responsibility to defend values they feel are important, democracy, freedom of speech. To be fair, the Soviet-era WW2 PPSh-41 with the 71-round drum magazine which we saw them training with might be old, but it's a pretty good weapon for the close quarter combat techniques they were learning. On the downside, it has a big muzzle flash, is really loud (not always a bad thing), and not especially accurate; the drum mags are a bit cumbersome and can jam if not well maintained, but with a rate of fire of 1,000 rpm and choice of either the 71 round drum magazine (more reliable when limiting its load to sixty-odd rounds maximum), or a 35-round box magazine, it offers the advantage of being able to put a lot of rounds the enemy's way and scare the living crap out of them with its very loud rapid-fire sound. In close-range battles, long-range accuracy is far less important than being able to keep the enemy's heads down with a lot of firepower whilst you outflank them or get close enough to lob a frag grenade at them, so it's actually pretty useful, especially if you don't have a squad support weapon to offer covering fire. Short and fairly small weaponry which won't get stuck on doorframes and such is also a definite plus point in room clearance. In WW2, the Russians called the PPSh-41, 'papasha' (daddy), because it was often the one which took care of business when it came to a fight. In their position, I wouldn't feel at a disadvantage carrying one of those things, not at all, in fact given the choice, so long as it was a well-maintained weapon and there was plenty of ammo for it, I might even choose it over the AKs the other guys were using, because for one thing, the ammunition, being Tokarev pistol rounds, weighs less than AK ammo and it has over twice the mag capacity of an AK.
Yup. The downside is of course that it fires pistol ammunition which will have difficulty against modern body armour, but as a weapon there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. Proven and liked for very good reasons.

In Canada they decided that expediting tourist visas for people who flee bombs is good enough and now make loud public statements how they are "helping". That's the reality. How is a Ukrainian refugee , who perhaps left everything behind running from under bombs, is suppose to get a plane ticket , travel to Canada and then what ? where are they going to live, pay for medical, schools for kids - NONE of that is taken care of. As an Australian I’d like to say one thing I’ve always loved about Americans is that when they feel a cause is just, they don’t wait for a government to tell them to go. They just go. A long history of it. Lafayette Escadrille, being a prime example from ww1. The fighters who fought the Battle of Britain while the USA government still faffed about whether or not fighting the 3rd reich was worth it. Gotta respect these people. Fighting a war is tough. Fighting a war that is not your own for reasons that matter to you. That’s the definition of putting your money where your mouth is.

I thank them so much for heading out there to train them. Considering how long the war has been going on now, it seems like they must’ve headed out there only a few days after the invasion started. It is a shame they can’t stay for longer, but I guess they do have to return to their families who inevitably need them to support them as well. I truly hope that other veterans will head over to help continue the training. As for around the world will probably be helping the Ukrainian official trainers with the newest recruits but right now need all the help they can get. If any of you are out there that want to actually help, please get to Ukraine as soon as possible.

To be fair, the Soviet-era WW2 PPSh-41 with the 71-round drum magazine which we saw them training with might be old, but it's a pretty good weapon for the close quarter combat techniques they were learning. On the downside, it has a big muzzle flash, is really loud (not always a bad thing), and not especially accurate; the drum mags are a bit cumbersome and can jam if not well maintained, but with a rate of fire of 1,000 rpm and choice of either the 71 round drum magazine (more reliable when limiting its load to sixty-odd rounds maximum), or a 35-round box magazine, it offers the advantage of being able to put a lot of rounds the enemy's way and scare the living crap out of them with its very loud rapid-fire sound. In close-range battles, long-range accuracy is far less important than being able to keep the enemy's heads down with a lot of firepower whilst you outflank them or get close enough to lob a frag grenade at them, so it's actually pretty useful, especially if you don't have a squad support weapon to offer covering fire. Short and fairly small weaponry which won't get stuck on doorframes and such is also a definite plus point in room clearance. In WW2, the Russians called the PPSh-41, 'papasha' (daddy), because it was often the one which took care of business when it came to a fight. In their position, I wouldn't feel at a disadvantage carrying one of those things, not at all, in fact given the choice, so long as it was a well-maintained weapon and there was plenty of ammo for it, I might even choose it over the AKs the other guys were using, because for one thing, the ammunition, being Tokarev pistol rounds, weighs less than AK ammo and it has over twice the mag capacity of an AK.
Yup. The downside is of course that it fires pistol ammunition which will have difficulty against modern body armour, but as a weapon there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. Proven and liked for very good reasons.

It's great to see that it's not just governments or international organizations helping the brave Ukranian people in their righteous fight, but regular individuals who have the skills, the courage and the determination to make a difference. "not just governments" yet there are no even guns and ammunition. The governments are giving us lip service. In Canada they decided that expediting tourist visas for people who flee bombs is good enough and now make loud public statements how they are "helping".
That's the reality. How is a Ukrainian refugee , who perhaps left everything behind running from under bombs, is suppose to get a plane ticket , travel to Canada and then what ? where are they going to live, pay for medical, schools for kids - NONE of that is taken care of. It is not enough that people suffer this kind of trauma, now they somehow supposed to survive here ? And our government is making loud statements to PR themselves on the lives of these people. Despicable
