At any Mexican restaurant just order the "combination plate" and you'll have a nice sampling of what they offer. (P.S. Buc-ee's are pretty much just in the Texaplex (DFW>SA/Austin>Houston triangle) so geography counts in Texas.)
Mannn o' man, yes! Frito-Pie ain't a pie, but it is 100% good. Gitch'a big bag of Fritos, pour it in a big ol' bowl. Ladle-over some screaming hot beef Chili con Carne, and yes, no beans. BUT, you can drop a big ladle of spicy borracho beans on the chili. Then top it with some shredded Cheddar cheese, or shredded Manchego cheese. Then throw some diced onions, & sliced Serrano, or Jalapeňo peppers on top. Then start to mixing it up, and chowing down. Sorry folks no sour cream dollop. Frankly, its obscene to ruin a good Frito-Pie with sour cream. Unless your a pretty girl, then its allowed. Since it's Texas, use fried salted corn tortillas chips. instead of crackers to eat with the chili. You can substitute some hot sauce of your choice instead of the jalapeňo peppers. For dessert, the Ladies get "Blue Bell Rocky Road" ice cream, and a fried cinnamon corn tostada to eat with the ice cream. For the men, Y'all just need another beer. Ya' done ate too much gotdang Frito-pie and your belts too dang tight now already. Above all, enjoy yourselves. Don't worry bout the kids, just microwave 'em some dang cheese pizza slices; they love that cardboard stuff anyways. They'll shut-up just long enough for you to pretend they don't exist. To drink for the meal... Men: Beer Ladies: Sweet Ice Tea Kids: Cokes or Kool-Aid.
A warm slice of home made pecan pie served with a scoop or 2 of buttered pecan Blue Bell ice cream or any brand really. Is the Texas desert. Yes if you come to Texas and try 1 beer it’s a Shiner Bock draft preferably. If you have Texas Red chili it has to be served with a big piece of Jalapeño cheese corn bread. Don’t forget a big bowl of charro beans with rice on a cold day. Plus the seafood a good Gulf of Mexico red snapper or stuffed flounder is high on the list plus that shrimp cocktail or taco.
I ❤ how you pronounced Whataburger, and now missing my chicken strips with the thick gravy from my childhood with the Texas Toast and medium Dr. Pepper. And don't forget the awesome seafood around my hometown of Houston!
This is my new favorite EATS video. Super comprehensive. Nailed it, Jocelyn. *fajitas* - I’m thinking when you visited Galveston you didn’t spend much time in Houston where modern fajitas originated. Mexican cowboys in Texas marinated skirt steak a century ago but Ninfa’s (I’ve been) in Houston made it famous in the ‘70s and now every US chain restaurant serves fajitas it seems! 😆 Yup. Fajitas are delicious and fun for a crowd. Possibly the ultimate Tex-Mex! 👍
Jocelyn, you did a great job of explaining about all the great foods to eat while in Texas, even more than your other videos. I could tell you were so enthusiastic about it.
The best food I had in Texas was slow cooked spicy chicken with beans. Home made by one of my friends in north eastern Texas . Even my son who normally hate beans, loved it.
Next time try Rolandos super tacos in San Antonio. They are plate sized tacos as everything is bigger in Texas. Thanks for representing our state in such a beautiful way 🇨🇱🤠
I remember those days as an expat. Craving comfort food. Hard Rock became our spot for home-food in Lisbon. I hope you find a special place for those days when you need a lil USA.
Have y'all ever done a "What to eat in Chicago" video since you live in Illinois? I know deep dish pizza, Italian beer, and a Chicago hot dog, but was wondering what else you'd recommend.
@@jenniferbenzie6594 Mexican food in Europe is generally, really far removed from Mexican food in America. When we lived in EU I used to order things, thinking I knew what to expect, it was always, unlike my expectations. So, when you come here and habe Mexican, expect it to be nothing like you think. 😉
@@WoltersWorldEats That's definitely what it was like in China! You expect to know the food cos you try it over here but here does not do AUTHENTIC chinese food 😂😂😂 i can't wait to try all these dishes you guys tell us about one day!!
There was a time when you'd get kicked out of Texas if you didn't at least pretend that you liked Lone Star or Pearl beer. That lasted until maybe the late 1980s but the change started out in the 70s when Miller Light became available here. It's ok now to skip trying Lone Star if you're here. Quite honestly it used to be pretty good compared to beers in decades past but it's really not that great especially compared to what's available now. Another really good alcoholic drink that folks often just don't try because of what it is - Eastciders apple cider here from Texas is much more like the hard cider you get in the UK. It's demi sec or medium sweet vs most other American ciders that may as well be alchopops. I wouldn't consider it much of a light or refreshing beverage but it might be worth a try!!
😆 my kids love Whataburger. I think their burgers are really salty and not really my thing. However, I'm not sure I'd choose BK over WB. But that might be influenced by the fact that our BK is like the slowest drive thru on earth. 🤷♀️
BlueBell is LIFE.!!!

I should have mentioned fajitas! I knew they were TexMex, I didn't know the history though. Thanks for the background!
My favorite thing is babies chicken it is really good

This is making me miss Buc ee’s 😩 I visited Buc ee’s from California in July and I can’t wait to go back!

Thanks, Bill!😊 I must've been channeling Mark's neverending well of energy. Lol
Great list Jocelyn! We loved having y'all visit and can't wait for next time.
Thanks for having us! We enjoyed our time so much! 😀

Instead of going to the czech stop, check out Slovacek's on the other side of the highway. Especially if you're going that direction
Alrite-now, Texas😺
Mouthwatering good food in Texas.
Damn skippy!
I'm sure someone else already said it but Whataburger started in Corpus Christi.
Also is Dr Pepper not in other states?
Don't forget next time to mention The Dallas State Fair. Prize winning foods 💖
Oh so goood! t's all good. Get me on the next flight. Nice Vlog Jocelyn. Jim from Richmond, Va.
I got Kolaches at one of the Texas BBQ places here a few years ago and they were legit!
My first Kolache was my friend's mother-in-law's recipe. Not sure I've had many that compare to it but when you find good ones you know it!
Now I'm starving. Good thing I'm in Wyoming so I can get the beef!✌😃👍

Mark did one years ago on Wolters World. I need to hop up there and remake it but um, it's cold. 😆
It intrigues me how little things differ from area/country
It's a beautiful thing to see our commonalities.
Kolačky one of my favorite things to make and eat!
Oh WOW these foods look SOOOOO good!!! Breakfast Taco's is that like fajitas? looks like our fajitas wraps
Nope, just tacos with breakfast fillings. 😋

I like real ciders, not overly sweet. Next time, I'll have to get some.
Lots of good craft beers here.
Native Texan here. It’s Puhcahn pie. The other pronunciation is peeing in a can. 😁
Chicken fried steak came from the Germans. Who brought good sausage, too.
It's a very interesting story about the Germans who moved to Texas. They also brought the beer.
Imma just go a head and say it: Whataburger is overrated! It's like a not-so-cheap knockoff of Burger King. Skip it and hit up an In and Out Burger!

Texan here. Unfortunately Whataburger isn't what it used to be. It's like sonic now, only twice as expensive.
@@frednich9603 so dang pricey!
@@frednich9603 ha! I remember my first Whataburger in 1999 and I was quite impressed, but now eh. The comparison to Sonic is perfect!
Two things that are overrated - Texas BBQ and Flying first class.
