Oh trust me, Decalcomanie is not the mv moomoos were expecting either. We were used to fun, fresh and slightly goofy comebacks then they wacked us in the face with this actual serious concept lol. I guess looking back after seeing all their more recent stuff it's nbd, but it was very shocking at the time! I was still glad to see a more mature side though Heres an interesting story about Decalcomanie; it didn't do so well charts-wise at first. It debuted OK, but slipped down pretty quickly. Moomoos were worried because Um Oh Ah Yeah did pretty well and You're the Best smashed the charts with a PAK, but they were still pretty early in their careers and we didn't want them to fade into the background like so many groups from smaller companies that get lucky with a couple of hits. HOWEVER, all of that changed at the Blue Dragon Awards. The BDAs is a notoriously tough crowd full of actors who are uninterested in whatever idol is performing and usually sit stony-faced throughout. But Mamamoo being Mamamoo decided to change the lyrics of the song to include lines from several nominees' films and the actors were equal parts shocked and loving it 😆. The video of that performance went viral, and Decalcomanie climbed up the charts to #1 three weeks after release! And it stayed in the charts forever; it was one of the longest lasting songs in the charts all year. It completely solidified them as chart topping legends.
My favorite live from them at all is for Decalcomanie. Their live in the suits is just so good. And the KMoomoo’s are a force…making all of us international fans proud.

'Decalcomanie' is a masterpiece. Their vocals are totally insane and Mamamoo was only 2 yrs old at the time. 'Better' is such a nice chill summer song (other Moonsun subunit songs: "Bada Boom" and "Promise U"). Mamamoo+ is for them to try new things and Moonbyul is singing a lot recently (moomoos have been waiting for vocalist Moonbyul for so long!!). I recommend Moonbyul's performance "On My Way" (released today), it's so good! If you are interested in more vocal masterpieces from Solar (all available on UA-cam): - "The Girl I Used to be" from Solar's musical debut "Mata Hari" - "Image (5:52 am)" by Solar on KBS Listen-Up - "Adrenaline" an ost in english available on Solarsido (this is less recent, but still so good)
Excellent interpretation of both songs. Agree that Decalcomanie is one of the best kpop songs ever and is one of MMM's masterpieces. After fans complained RBW edited the original MV to remove part of Solar's kissing scene that showed him pushing her up against the elevator wall. Solar said she was fine with the original scene and didn't see a problem with it. I acknowledge that Solar's original scene and the more aggressive bits in the other kissing scenes could be triggering for victims of sexual violence but imo they fit with the lyrics. Decalcomanie is one of several MMM songs where desire and passion feel risky and dangerous and out of control and I think that's what they were going for in the MV. And then of course there are the fans who don't want to see their favorite idols kissing even in a fictional setting where actual lips never meet. 🙄 You didn't seem to notice Moonbyul's singing in Better, or at least you didn't mention it and only talked about her harmonies with Solar. They clearly intended Better as a soothing, healing song that celebrates the peaceful, carefree feeling of all being right with the world just because you're in the company of a friend or someone special. I thought Big Naughty did a great job and was an excellent choice for the collab. The ending seemed to drop some hints and clues about the nature and future plans of the subunit. The GPS showed the route to their next destination, marked with a heart, which seems to imply that they're off to meet someone else for a collab on a love song. Tho I also wonder whether it's necessarily going to be Solar & Moonbyul as the subunit. Maybe Mamamoo+ means any two members of the group plus a featured guest artist.
So this is not quite the original version of the Décalcomanie MV, as they took the first one down and uploaded a version that shows off less of Solar's kiss, since it was a problematic. It is a similar problem to their Um Oh Ah Yeah MV. You can certainly look up the exact reasons, but I think you understood why in your second watch.
The best thing in Decalcomanie is that the dance in ffront of the mirror is actually they are dancing in front of each other, no visual effect, no mirror

Decalcomanie is one of my faves in their discography. Also their live performances on this song are SUPERB and TO LIVE FOR! It's so different and in a different level. Plus, Moon's rap here is lit! In Decalcomanie I take the business with the blind folds to be about sexual awakening. They give into desire and the blindfolds come off. It fits in with their female empowerment becaus they do this and they feel good there are no regrets, and it's a focus on their experience and their reactions. as you know, moonbyul didn't want to be a rapper at first and she even said before that she hated having to rap when she first debuted. I get expecting/wanting a rap from her but in my opinion, it's so much more satisfying to just hear her singing in a song alongside solar whilst a feature takes care of the rap. I'm happy that she finally is achieving her dream as a singer without being forced to rap in every song anymore :)
I agree, I did react to BETTER right after Decalcomanie so I very easily forgot about the fact that she didn't want to be a rapper in the first place. A feature taking the rap section made a lot of sense in giving Moonbyul the freedom to sing and also not take away from the feature, BIG Naughty's rap, which was very enjoyable, so, win win :) But of course, it's something that I started thinking about after recording my reactions, and not while recording these 2 videos back to back :) Me expecting her to rap didn't mean to take away from her singing, at least that was not the way I meant it :)
