In a significant milestone for the Indian automotive industry, Maruti Suzuki introduced the iconic Maruti 800 in 1983, a compact hatchback that would go on to shape the landscape of the country's car market. Celebrating its 39th anniversary, the first-ever Maruti 800, a vehicle that played a pivotal role in democratizing car ownership, has been meticulously restored and is now proudly showcased at Maruti Suzuki's headquarters.
This pioneering vehicle marked the genesis of Maruti Udyog Limited, now known as Maruti Suzuki India Limited, and its impact resonates even today. The maiden unit of the Maruti 800 rolled off the production line at the company's manufacturing facility in Haryana. The keys to this historic vehicle were handed over to Mr. Harpal Singh from New Delhi by the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, during her visit to formally inaugurate the production facility.
Registered under the distinctive number DIA 6479, this Maruti 800 became an emblem of accessibility and convenience for countless Indian families. Mr. Harpal Singh, the proud recipient of the first Maruti 800, held onto the car and its iconic registration number until his passing in 2010.
In a tribute to this automotive trailblazer, the first-ever Maruti 800 has undergone a meticulous restoration process, reverting it to its original form. This restored piece of history now stands as a symbol of Maruti Suzuki's enduring legacy, showcasing the journey from its inaugural production to its enduring significance in the Indian automobile landscape.

Engines of modern cars are better than older cars. They frequently broke down on roads making the travellers stranded. I had several bad (and sometimes funny) experiences. Old cars were unreliable and it was dangerous to travel in the night out of urban areas.

It's called FX-800 in Pakistan, it served as taxi cab of Rawalpindi from 1990s till mid 2010s
This was in fact the first car of many middle class families. Boot space and design both were pathetic.
The only reason it became popular in India and Pakistan was cheaper price better fuel economy and easy to maintain. No complex electronics, just 4 wheels engine gearbox and steering
