Yeah, I was shouting in front of my computer, especially when Mr. Cheon read the card and stopped at "protection from coyotes". We are always so smart when we are not actually playing, right ?
48:44 I think it would have been best to remove the mount with Wylie on the stack, that way they couldn’t saddle and draw, and steer clear could potentially finish it off if it attacked or blocked. Thanks for the consistent uploads, it’s been very helpful in improving my gameplay and increasing exposure to the set! Hope we hit rank 1 this time :)
35:00 What a punt from the opp. Obvious play is to equip Lasso to Griff for more life, and also so that when the Griff swings, the Bandit untaps (lasso commits a crime) and they can make another elemental. Then they can double-block summoner and easily win from there.
Hey Paul! Thanks for spoiling us with uploads, and bigger thanks to showing us how to lose graciously even when the deck is the one that screws us over. I personally think that's just as valuable as your knowledge in limited!
39:20 I recommend the Toyko style lands, they're super fun looking basics. I think you can get any of these fancy styles in the store for like 25k gold or 5k gems or something.
bro any of the Black cards (lazav or vampires) that grow when u do crime are nuts, had opp go those two drops into the guy that finds deserts and it was insane value
I’m really not a fan of limited formats that don’t have land smoothing mechanics like cycling and investigate. It always feels so bad to have mana issues in those formats, because you can’t even blame it on your own deckbuilding most of the time. That said, I can’t complain about another Cheon upload! Thank you! Scaleswarm Summoner is a house.
It is nice to have land smoothing, but there are aspects of deckbuilding that I think are lost, especially on new players (not that I think you are), when they become too used to those mechanics. It allows for "lazier" builds to do better than they probably should, so I think having formats without mechanics like that help shake the rust off and encourage more thoughtful drafting.
The power level of the B level uncommons in this set is so high I feel like I need to take speculative multi colored cards early and then wait to see what commons in which archtypes are being passed. We've been trained to prioritize mono colored cards early to stay open. That may not be as true in this set, where the games are decided by the power level of the uncommons and the combos they unlock.
Boots is pretty good, especially with big green beaters or fliers. Late game it gets insane, a Armadillo 8/7 with ward 4 and haste even a holy cow 3/2 flier scry 2 gain 2 life ward 1 and haste for 4 mana.
Its kinda wild because I also did some drafts today and I have also had a heavy land screw happen in every game. I think the algorithm is just trying to get us to stop winning!
Man, rough going. I've been having some good luck but R/W was my worst showing and I had every rare and uncommon you want. Certainly not the king it was in MKM. Stoked to hear about double drops on the stream. Do you post somewhere when you stream or is it always Wednesday? See ya tomorrow, get that trophy.
I was thinking, in the Ikoria set, they had mutate onto target non-human creature. Do you agree that with this OTJ set they should have made saddle only possible being done by non-beast creatures? I know flavor isn't everything.. but a stryx mounting a giant Bever e.g.. just.. kills it for me. Plus, what is your opinion on the shuffler? Last week I was playing blue-black deck, I had 3 land cards in my opening hand and after that I drew 8 lands... (Out of my 16 total in deck) That's a chance of 0.0133%... It just feels way more prominent to be either flooded or stuck on lands in Arena than in real matchups. You call it part of the game, and it is. But about 30% of my games I draw 10+ lands in the first half of my deck..
Paul forgor the road runner can just be activate for three to become pretty much unblockable and missed the win with the sharp shooter and gave op another turn
Luis basically never mulligans, neither do I unless the hand is literally unplayable. If i do mulligan, ill aggressively bottom a land. Most often it works out but occasionally ofc you get stuck on 1 too few and it sucks.
Hey, I know I'm late to the party but I'm wondering why you weren't playing the Highway Robbery? Since the deck constantly found itself looking for things to do I believe it fit well
I'm really struggling to play this format. MKM was one of my stronger formats at least on arena, no so much in paper. But this format I'm getting destroyed almost every single deck I draft and I feel completely lost.
I think this would be such a great set WITHOUT the ridiculous and over the top bonus sheet. Why? Why did they put such stupid bombs in the bonus sheet. Some decks are close to unbeatable.
So early in the set, could you maybe hover over the cards a little longer? No need to read them all out, but a few seconds to read the cards you're talking about would be nice.
Just making fun of the other commenters. It's a new set and you're recording a video, so I don't think we all need to comment that you need to read the roadrunner :D Great content as always. Been a fan for years. Since you're here, a quick question: What are your thoughts on the people saying that the mythic #1 player(s) discard drafts if they don't think the final pool is going to do well, to "inflate" their ELO? Seems like you're doing the "hard mode" road to rank 1, though in my personal opinion I prefer that and it will make the (inevitable) rank 1 all the sweeter.
@@teusz16 When I made this comment the video had like 5 comments, half of which were about missing the ability on roadrunner. I was just trying to parody those, clearly missed the mark. I agree Paul doesn't need to be told about the roadrunner multiple times in the comments, that was what I was trying to point out was silly, not Paul 😅
Oh wow! Two uploads in one day? A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one!
I try
Paul?! Two videos in a day?! You are spoiling us!!
I do what I can
Roadrunner can be unblockable for 3 mana at 25:00
Ohh didn't know that!
Yeah, I was shouting in front of my computer, especially when Mr. Cheon read the card and stopped at "protection from coyotes". We are always so smart when we are not actually playing, right ?
Yeah i always forget to pump with the assassin tokens
20:32 thanks for the Soft Drink opening ASMR 😊

They punted MANY times that game. With Paul flooding out like that there were very few lines that lose them the game, but they sure found one.
Hey Paul! Thanks for spoiling us with uploads, and bigger thanks to showing us how to lose graciously even when the deck is the one that screws us over. I personally think that's just as valuable as your knowledge in limited!
I've played too many matches of Magic in my life to let mana screw get to me ... most of the time!
New set? Paul Cheon content?! TWO UPLOADS A DAY?!?! It’s not even my birthday yet
Just for you!
the ghired player bungled so much with a perfect board setup, i have no idea what they were thinking :|
24:40 no more sneaky reach with the new animations 😂
Welcome to Thunder Junction where you have to prioritize bombs and deserts.
Every time I keep a 4 land opener I draw 4+ straight lands, frustrating lol
2 videos!! Wakeen turning deserts into fireballs is an awesome interaction
Oo yeah that is pretty sweet!
39:20 I recommend the Toyko style lands, they're super fun looking basics. I think you can get any of these fancy styles in the store for like 25k gold or 5k gems or something.
Just realised that Taii Wakeen with ping deserts is pretty insane actually, especially in a deserts matters deck
bro any of the Black cards (lazav or vampires) that grow when u do crime are nuts, had opp go those two drops into the guy that finds deserts and it was insane value
That flooding...even I felt frustrated vicariously.
Yes the floodgates were definitely opened
Hana Hou! Thank you for great content Paul!
My pleasure!

Should definitely have taken the blue white desert at the end… with Tai deserts are fireballs!
Dude this flooding happened to me yesterday too I was losing my mind. Drawing like 14 lands in the top 25 cards. Just so insaneeeee
Such floods

More double uploads! I love em
Glad you like em!
I actually made the terminal agony + highway robbery plot combo work at prerelease. Felt pretty great
Sweetness!
That road runner never attacking in more than one game was painful to watch haha
Yeah reading is difficult! My bad
Boots is pretty good, holy cow turn 4, 3/2 flier, scry 2, gain 2 life, ward 1, haste. It gets better late game with huge beaters and haste.
It feels like White is contested in every match.
Hopefully you get to run back a Taii Wakeen deck later in the season. And actually draw it instead of 10 lands lol.
Seriously!
Boots is pretty good, especially with big green beaters or fliers. Late game it gets insane, a Armadillo 8/7 with ward 4 and haste even a holy cow 3/2 flier scry 2 gain 2 life ward 1 and haste for 4 mana.
Seeing the derailment kill Wylie post saddle was painful
Can I time it differently?
What is a truly two for one? Two videos for one day!
Enjoy!
Its kinda wild because I also did some drafts today and I have also had a heavy land screw happen in every game. I think the algorithm is just trying to get us to stop winning!
I wish I was as calm as you when getting mana flooded 😅
It took every ounce of willpower to not flip my table hah!
Roadrunner cant be blocked by creatures w/o haste if you pay 3 Paul. Could have ended game 1 like 5 turns earlier
Love these videos man. I’m a new player learning limited right now and your videos have been an insane amount of help
Glad to hear it!
Man, rough going.

Wow 2nd opponent did not respect the scalestorm sunmoner at all
He la monster. But awesome videos between you and Jim I learn alot lol
Thanks 👍
Sweet deck, too bad the tai wakeen didn't really show up. Felt like 16 lands would have worked as well
Next time!
Roadrunner not being made unblockable got me STRESSED, lethal paired with the sharpshooter
Whoops
@@haumphI always get the roadrunner mixed up with the coyote anyway, easy mistake
Paul forgor the road runner can just be activate for three to become pretty much unblockable and missed the win with the sharp shooter and gave op another turn
Yeah i didn’t realize the road runner actually becomes unblockable!
Luis basically never mulligans, neither do I unless the hand is literally unplayable. If i do mulligan, ill aggressively bottom a land. Most often it works out but occasionally ofc you get stuck on 1 too few and it sucks.
Sometimes I wanna quick playing this game..
when I get only land draws multiple games in a row
25:20 in, roadrunner can pay 3 to become unblockable except by haste creatures just so you know.
Its Heala, thats how gila courser is pronounced.
Hey, I know I'm late to the party but I'm wondering why you weren't playing the Highway Robbery? Since the deck constantly found itself looking for things to do I believe it fit well
i think highway robbery is mostly bad and should only really be played in u/r. possibly b/r with a lot of removal
I'm really struggling to play this format. MKM was one of my stronger formats at least on arena, no so much in paper. But this format I'm getting destroyed almost every single deck I draft and I feel completely lost.
Yeah format is wildly different than mkm. You’ll get the hang of it. It’s only week 1!
Very unskillful of you to draw so many lands in this draft.
Hila Corser. Is how it's pronounced
You should read the roadrunner card more carefully. It's better than you think
No you
@@haumph ok. I've done that now. Now you.
17 lands is too much for most decks i have found 16 to be much better for most
I am not sure you really read the roadrunner. It becomes unblockable.
I definitely did not. Now I know!
I think this would be such a great set WITHOUT the ridiculous and over the top bonus sheet. Why? Why did they put such stupid bombs in the bonus sheet. Some decks are close to unbeatable.

I’ll try!
It's pronounced "heel-a". Not "geel-a". :)
scalestorm summoner has overperformed for me so far. also 16 lands is better than 17 on arena best of 1
Sure seems that way especially without any good mana sinks in the late game
All of the art in this set looks strangely the same. I sense some AI here.
You should read cards less and just play what autotapper lets you play.
?
Just making fun of the other commenters. It's a new set and you're recording a video, so I don't think we all need to comment that you need to read the roadrunner :D

Username is accurate, I guess? Pretty sure Paul knows what he’s doing
