Heavenly is one of my favorite Power Metal band for a very long time now, I'm addicted to the band since the release of "Sign of the Winner" in 2001. Their guitar sound is so large, it reminds me Blind Guardian and Brian May of Queen who starts using multiple guitar tracking back in the days. I can say Blind Guardian and Queen with an hint of Michael Kiske are also a big influence in the vocal department and I'm a sucker of that kind of stuff when its done right, here that's the case.
The song "Power & Fury" comes out the 2006 album "Virus". This is a fast paced one with tons of great hooks and memorable singing. The pre-chorus and the chorus here are bombastic, Ben Sotto's voice is quite high with some raspy at times. On the other hand, he doesn't abuse high pitched call. The guitar solos are fabulous, very melodic, it takes part of the story instead of just adding useless soulless shredding. The percussion doesn't take a break and keeps the thundering double bass drum to transport the rhythm of the song. The keyboards adds a perfect enchanting touch and a bursting solo in the middle of the song.
Heavenly is such an underrated band deserving a lot more exposure and I hope their new album will help them gain more recognition after 10 years without releasing something. For now, go listen to "Virus" and "Dust to Dust", two masterpieces of Power Metal.
