This recording reminds me of an unpleasant experience I had several years ago with Deutsche Welle. I wrote to complain when they cancelled what I considered one of the better programs on DW at that time. They wrote back and told me that DW was no longer going to featuring old German "oompah" music. I don't remember my response but I expect it was quite sharp. Call it "oompah" if you like, but I call it great and this is a superb example.
I'm from Bavaria (Southern Germany), and this is fully correct. This short version of that rather old name was known long before the Nazis appeared. Since that time, however, it is no longer in use - no wonder. Greez
Hi and remember: as said in German months ago: "Nazi" was formerly the short form of the German Christian name "Ignaz" (= Ignatius) Danke an Parlophon für das Hochladen.
The reverse side of this record is from the same Revue and songwriter, and it is very remarkable too! It's called: "Wenn du Putzi sagst, bin ich glücklich"! Hitler had a close friend, Ernst Hanfstaengl, with the nickname Putzi. I don't now of this was a hint about their friendship.
Political Correctness is a bane of American life. To everyone who is offended by this recording, well, it's a damn fine melody, AND, I can't think of anything more detrimental to nazism than to make fun of it in this manner. Victor Borge knew this well, as did other comedians, Jewish and Gentile.
Well, it is about the nazis. A very funny but at the same time bitter song. The name of the revue could be translated as "World history is necessary". Fritz Grünbaum was a jewish actor and cabaret artist. He was sent to Dachau, Buchenwald and back to Dachau where he died in 1941 (he was born in 1880).
Well I'm not the best translator but it means : She has a big Nazi and a little Nazi and she loves them both. She says to big Nazi "sweatheart" and she says to the little Nazi "sweatheart". The rest I can't translate :P
"World history is necessary" - this has not lost its the meaning until today and we can see how again and again people need it (judging at least by some comments and replies/!/ on our field, here). Horror always may return; lessons are indispensable. Thank you. For my mind, Nazi was so closely connected with events after 1932 that for a moment I felt confused (1928).
It is kind of interesting that this is from Weimar, not from the actual Nazi era. And apparently the composer and lyricist of this song were both Jewish. Stephan Weiss apparently escaped Germany for Hollywood, and went on to write the standard "Angel In Disguise," but Fritz Grunbaum, not so lucky, died at Dachau.
This text isn't that sensefull you hope.. "She has a big Nazi, she has a little Nazi and she like's them both, she calls the big Nazi "sweatheart", she calls the the little Nazi "sweatheart" and despices the fine men in the city; that's why I'm feeling bad for all men who are in love with such a farmwoman in Switzerland; she has a big Nazi, she has a little Nazi, because she's a Nazi-expert"

I have been waiting for many years to listen to this great cabaret song from 1928. Thank you very much.
Thank you very much for posting.
The reverse side of this record is from the
same Revue and songwriter, and it is very remarkable too! It's called:

Bravo, much fun !
@quivertree
Yes, it is indeed ! Thank you for your nice reaction !

+Nick Lucas (PennaGrundsau) it is not making fun of nazism, it is about a girl who likes real men instead of "fine" feminin men.
Thank you for your nice comment !
I call the German music of today Autobahnbumm-bumm !!

I wonder what Nazi may mean here in this song...?
Sounds like appropriate music for today's america............
There has got to be german listeners who can translate this please!
Well I'm not the best translator but it means : She has a big Nazi and a little Nazi and she loves them both. She says to big Nazi "sweatheart" and she says to the little Nazi "sweatheart". The rest I can't translate :P
Thank you very much for this very interesting information !!!
You most welcome on my Channel !

"Nazi" is a southern-German informal version for the name "Ignaz"

Listen to Tommy Handley sing "Who is That Man who Looks Like Charlie Chaplin?"...great.

They wouldn't have gotten away with it in the actual Nazi era(Except if it was a loyal Nazi like Weiss-Ferdl doing it).
The pleasure is all mine !
