Have fun at Flock Fiber! Wish I could go! I asked the boss about helping her out in the booth, but I have to stay home and work in the shop (I work at my lys, Knotty Lamb). But if you have the chance, go visit the Lamb Good booth! That's our house yarn and the owner of our shop is the dyer and she's amazing. 😁 Loved your storm!! 😁 And that Weekender in the big birdie will be amazing!

From a nearly lifelong resident of WA (eastern part), enjoy your trip! I went to Olympic National Park last year for the first time, and it’s beautiful.

I loved the rain and thunder!
I hope you enjoy Flock, and the Seattle area. I will be there on Sunday and am looking forward to it.

Well, and “slug” is very appropriate for plane knitting to Seattle. We are full of slugs. Except for this year because we haven’t had any rain (except for the last two days) this summer…but there are still slugs in my garden. Lol.
Hopefully will run into you at Flock! I am with you on the awkward thing - I will just say a quick hello. ❤

oh that was the best thunderstorm! I love them too, so good tucked up inside listening to them... I feel you with the sewing.. I've still got a dress cut out 5 months down the track, just need to brave the sewing machine again😂 Have fun in Seattle, always amazes me how people haven't seen the sea before but living in New Zealand it's rather impossible not to being a couple of rocks in the sea! Make sure you dip your toes in!

Sewing patterns are much like knitting patterns….there is ease built in and you need to account for that when cutting it out. Measure the pattern at the hip to determine how much ease there is in the pattern, if it doesn’t state it on the pattern. Kudos to you for the courage to just jump in! Be kind to yourself…..everything is a learning process! Jaclyn is SO ambitious in her sewing….fitting. I lived in the Seattle area, about a hundred years ago 😂, and it’s such a beautiful city. Enjoy every moment of your trip! 😊

My mother and grandmother sewed beautifully, and I regret not being able to catch on to sewing. All other types of needlework came easily to me, crewel work, cross stitch, crochet, knitting. Sewing drove me up the wall. After struggling with one apron years ago, I closed the Singer and it's still in the closet.
Have a wonderful trip to Seattle. And thanks again for leading me to a red and lavender yarn combination. My order of Purl Soho Quartz in Cardinal Red and Lavender Moon arrived recently, and I love it for the mini half-wrap I've planned.

I think when kids are young, the mojo ebs and flows, there's just days we have to check in to parenting full speed and our personal rest falls to the side. Lots of hugs and prayers for energy. Love your skirt. Very big, but it looks great! I want to sew but I'm not there yet, haha! All the best, Kimberly

First off, I just love all of your content. Thank you for being here. :) Second, I wanted to suggest that you consider washing your skirt fabric before you cut into it. I think you said it was a cotton/linen blend? I have just had experiences with both types of fabric in which my finished garment shrank after the first wash. I use my serger around the edges first and then just toss the whole thing into the wash to make sure and preshrink it if it's going to in order to hopefully avoid some sadness.

Great projects! Your trip sounds exciting, too. If you are still fairly new to sewing, especially apparel, I would steer clear of slippery fabrics as that can add in additional frustration working with it while also trying to work out sewing a pattern. It also will not handle or end up the same as your final/intended fabric (rayon vs linen). Cotton muslin fabric is inexpensive (you can even get the whole bolt for 50% off at JoAnn when they have the coupon) to try out a pattern and make all adjustments on before you use your favorite fabric. The leftover muslin is great for so many other things, including linings to project bags, etc. Enjoy your summer thunderstorms and travel! Take time to do what you enjoy between all those other parenting/adulting times and take care of you.

22:06 you want your finished skirt to be bigger in the circumference, then your waist. And then you measure your elastic to your waist measurement with maybe a half an inch. It’ll cinch up and look perfect! I think you did fine! I hope you show a follow up!

I can't wait to see your outfit come together! I also have a love-hate relationship with sewing. I love making quilt blocks but have to push thru to sew them together, along with clothing. I've been seeing more knitters sew lately and it did inspire me to pull out my gypsum skirt... I've had all the material cut out for over two years 😅

Love all of your projects! I've found all of Sew Liberated's patterns are incredibly large in the larger size ranges so I always look at the finished measurements to help me determine my size in their patterns. But I do love everything that they do, and you can't beat their instructions for how step-by-step and clear they are.

Sewing is a process- but I think you are being too harsh on yourself!! and the bonus of elastic waist patterns is that you absoultely can just shorten the elastic for a snugger fit. I really like these patterns because of this, they aren't fitted so dont need to worry about sizing too much. Your skirt will be fine if you shorten the elastic :) another thing to bear in mind though is that when you sew over the elastic, this will change the fit depending on how good the elastic is, it might make it a bit looser, so worth bearing in mind. (If you do end up having to unpick it, stretch the waist over something to pull it taught so you can see the stitches easier).
