Thanks Karl! The tips help a lot. I'm definitely going to work more on my marching and general stick control as it appears I currently have the rudiment tunnel vision you talked of. Thanks!
Without hesitation I say yes because it has been like this since the days when I was marching and I'm sure it's hard to get rid of that glorification. But I'm just not sure if that will ever change: the high voices are always glorified. Violins vs. Cellos, Trumpets vs. Tubas, Sopranos vs. Bass, Snare/Tenor for Bass Drum, so until that goes away throughout music, then I don't think it'll go away any time soon.
Hey Karl! Love the vid! I am very interested in auditioning for the troopers as a bass drum player! Is there anything bass drum specific that I shlould pay attention too when practicing for Troop?
Hi Trystan! My suggestion is to get a hold of their audition packet so you know exactly what to practice as that would be a much more accurate representation for what to practice vs. you and me speculating :) If there is no packet, which I doubt, then at that time we can speculate :D
Hi there im 19 and graduated a year ago from high school and never got the chance to audition for any corp and I know this video is 3 years old however I am very interested in marching troopers/dci group this upcoming season for 2022, and a question I have is how important is the prior experience? Do rookies like myself have a decent shot of making the corp if they know their fundamentals really well and march/move well and everything explained in the video? Or do these staff members and higher level groups look for someone with experience rather than someone who has more skills fundamentally?
I know! That's like never happened in the history of UA-cam lol It's ok...one day some person is gonna hit that dislike button and my streak is over...but it was nice while it lasted haha
Ouch why you gotta diss the Couchmen like that 😂
I love the couchmen...but despite my auditions, I still can't make it :(

Yes absolutely! Have fun and let me know if there's anything I can do to help :)
Great job on the video, Karl! Thank you!
Thanks so much for the feedback and of course, you're welcome :)
great vid! hey karl, do you think that snare and tenor playing is more glorified than bass and cymbal playing? if so than why?
