I can't believe the amount of stupidity in the comment section people would rather critisize and tell someone they can't accomplish something rather than do anything about the problem.! What this man is is doing is not only extremely practical for all developing nations but gives the youth a hope to look forward to!

I'm reading all these comments from people who a) Have never lived in Africa or b) Have never even been to Africa. Having been born, raised and educated in the Free South Africa I completely agree with this man. Leaders make or break a country and it takes good leaders to help a country move forward. Botswana is a great example of what a great leader can do while Zimbabwe is an example of what happens when a leader goes rogue.

but what you fail to understand is that alot of great African leaders who could have made big changes where all murdered and the leaders choosen by western government are ineffective at least thats whay some post are saying reasearch your self assassinated african leaders find out

I don’t fit into either of those categories.
Without reading EVERY single comment, I think that what is left out is the “why” and sometimes the “how” that exists behind some of the events that discussed in this talk.
The context is important. This oversimplification is short-sighted.
I understand the optimism and “what-to-do-now” approach. However, he is speaking about something that has no precedent, at least for several a few hundred years.

Great man, we fled Ghana at about the same time for the same reason, I can certainly understand this man and where he comes from, my father had to hide for 3 years in Ghana because he could not leave the country, while me my sister and my mother waited for him in Belgium. I know exactly what he's talking about, but I also lived my entire life in Europe now and I know for a fact that emulating European or any other so called advanced countries in the world is a mistake, their systems are failing and are not sustainable, we need forward thinking people who will not just look for the short but most importantly to the long term, people who are willing to challenge the establishment that has brought the planet almost to the brink of extinction.

I enjoyed this talk. I had a chance to live in Tanzania, Africa, as a Peace Corps Volunteer less than two years ago. Tanzania is a very poor country, but it is culturally rich, and more important, it is peaceful. Since it's independence in 1961, Tanzania's first President, Julius Nyerere, peacefully orchestrated the countries' independence from England. He came from humble roots as a primary school teacher, but he was a well educated man who was friends with the President who started the Peace Corps, John Kennedy. Tanzania took a socialist route to development, as some other countries- and African culture is naturally socialist to some degree. He united the country with one language. Now Tanzania is developing more and more, becoming more democratic, more entrepreneurial. There are still problems and challenges to be sure, but Tanzania is a good model for the rest of the continent

It seems everybody argues on how we got into the problems we face in Africa but nobody is talking of ways of solving this problem. Yes, identifying the root cause of how an issue started is great at preventing future failures but must we only focus on that every time we debate? What does that achieve?
That for one is a prime reason things aren't improving in Africa.
I for one think agriculture is our way out. Micro-financing (obtained from diasporan expendable income) , farming education (networking farmers with experienced locals or experts). All this and more relies on finding people with the same passion, same goal & honesty. There are good people out there, it's just that the capitalist system is turning everyone into selfish, greedy capitalists.
We need to change our way of approaching problems, I propose a start small, contribute within your means, live simple, network, educate & above all, do everything for the better good of man!

I believe this too. Africa tries to live like the west, I don’t blame them we were colonized after all, but it’s like we have done this since the 60’s and we haven’t gotten anywhere.
Capitalism and the struggle for power has killed Africa, so much division.
Let’s stick to what we know best and then commodity it.

This is a very interesting and invigorating concept. One major challenge is the fact that there is a business and political elite who are really pushing to keep Africa as broken and dysfunctional as possible, because this in effect is what keeps them in power.

Here is the thing and it has been true trough all ages and all regions of the world: Young men without opportunity and occupation will start wars, commit violence and crime and are, generally speaking, a disaster for any country in any age of history. If you want stability in a region, prosperity and peace - you need to give these young men opportunity, education and occupation.

Very well said Frank. The truth can be a very uncomfortable place, but until we face the real issue we'll not solve the desperate state of Africa. It is poor, weak, corrupt leadership which is holding Africa back, when we fix this then the continent will be on a fast-track to prosperity.

Everything else aside, leadership is the single most important factor to a progressive society. However, what I know is that, there are many good leaders but their efforts are most of the times sabotaged for political and personal reasons. Unless political and personal sabotage stops, good leaders will continue to fail in building strong institutions. .

I agree with Frank on generation 4 they are better educated and don’t have the hang ups of generation 2 and 3... the problem is many on these still hang onto power.

One needs the expertise of outsiders but laws need to introduced which allow foreign companies to come to Africa but need to, by law, produce the finished product locally aswell. Africa complains about colonialists but there is a new colonialist that they are allowing in & that is China. One of China's biggest exports is people & that is already happening!

i come form Mozambique, educated in Mozambique, Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa. My encounters with the West have only been through books, media and various westerners that i have seen around these parts of Africa. needless to say i have not been out of Africa. i cannot tell for sure what is really wrong with Africa. What i can say for sure is that most people that talk about Africa feel that Africans must change to prosperity. Prosperity through education and development that is of the standards of the West. This is asking Africans to open more they already have. thus far, Africans need to look inward and stop comparing themselves to Europe or any other part of the world. President Robert Mugabe realised this in the late 90s. people suggest he destroyed that country. how so when majority of the people did not have land and at the same time those that were asked to share the land did not want to do so claiming "property rights" - a truly foreign concept to the native Zimbabwean. Mugabe's move was the first of many that should come in the future when leaders will attempt to give their people a voice and direction at the sacrifice of pettiness. A house can be built from ruins but a home cannot. Stop embarrassing yourselves people already think that Africa and Africans are "backward" and cannot "lead themselves". Ironically even a group of chimpanzees can better organise themselves and protect the jungle. no kidding! i saw it on National Geographic.

"Mindset". This is what africans and we mozambicans need, Benedito.
      2 examples strike:
      1. I worked as a medical doctor in Niassa Province and i found a strategy to efficiently and quickly screen tuberculosis patients in the communities. My district became, overnight, the best in this aspect. Interestingly enough, the idea needed no money to function properly. Nobody seemed to be interested to spread the idea throughout the country. And no magazine in Mozambique was interested to publish my articles about it. You know what? My work is being published by a medical journal in the UK, now that i live in Switzerland.
      2. Norway discovered huge amounts of oil on it's shores in the 60's. It invested massively in public services. Many argue Norway is probably the richest country in this planet today.
Nigeria discovered vast amounts of oil on it's shores in the...yes, you guessed it right, the 60's. It invested massively in corruption.

I would ask how long Mr Mandela would have lasted in jail in many of the black run African countries.
Mugabwe did not destroy Zimbabwe on his own, he had a lot of help, as did Amin, Bogasa, Mengistu etc.

Anybody reading this, you dont need to join an academy to be successful, keep that in mind! One thing you must always fight for is clarity of mind and there are many assaults with ELF waves on the population at the moment, we must unite and fight these mind control frequencies which can transmit feelings, voices etc.. that interfer with your own! Very alarming!

Great idea, Afrikans need to focus thier education more on practicals, making things for themselves, put clever minds to work on practicals, smart brains in food production/farming ,building more water bodies, harnessing the rivers better, making our own medicines, building our own machineary and transport net works rail and roads.we need more plumbers to build more sewage systems so cholera/ decentry stops, At the moment AFRIKA has far too many PHD holders in academics who have brought nothing but more corruption because they want to be paid for their certificates not what they can produce

This guy made lots of valid points and at the same time, over simplified Africa's leadership problems and solutions. There're lots of intricacies and external influences. The fabric of the socio-cultural and political system was torn apart by slavery, missionary and colonization. It will take lot more that simplistic talks like this to fix the continent.

anything and everything is possible one needs to know problem, a vision to fix it, handwork to back it, and expecting no results doing work unconditionally for sake of god, creating a better world. so he will be proud of his sons. humanity has limitless potential do work for sake of god... this is key.

One the first things that should happen is to start educating Africans to curtail the size of African families. The population is growing faster than the economies can handle this growth & with new technologies, like Artificial Intelligence, the amount jobs will grow at a much slower rate & indeed change the way industries etc work. The power of the trade union must be brought under control & not hold economies to ransom. The biggest problem that I believe Africa needs to overcome is African Tribalism & corruption. It is all very well creating great leaders but how do they exercise the control when voters are brain washed through poor education. He used Nelson Mandela as a great leader but just look at what has & is happening in South Africa. I expect to be shouted down but leaders need educated people to lead & to follow that leader. The problem in Africa is greater than just creating good leaders although good leaders are needed!

    I believe it's something in a people's genetic code.
Africa and India have had no end of
funding, help, infrastructure and aid from the west.
Vietnam, Hong Kong and Singapore got 0.01% of that help and ran with it.
Why is it that only Asians can progress with a helping hand and not self-destruct?
    Is must be genetic.

Its really baffling how ignorant a lot of people in the west are with respect to how the system works. it benefits the west more, to maintain Africa in this state, all the help you are talking about is simply a smoke screen, to fool the western population that all is done to help Africa. If the west really wants to help it should interfering in the continents affairs.

***** "Apparently" the avg IQ of Africans TODAY is 82 and for A.Americans it's 85..but how your raised up, education and sleep as well as genetics can effect IQ.Someone can do a few different IQ tests and get very different results in each one. My ethnic background is Nigerian, but born in the UK I believe IQ is in the 105-120 . Heard of the African model minority?

    • @iwasborntobefly

live1234561 the height of stupidity is to go on about a dumb iq test that was created by whites. and the african model minority myth is is dumb as the asian one. you have problems.

iwasborntobefly In America the model minority are now Asians but for a brief time they were African immigrants and their children..how is it a myth if there many statics to prove it. Furthermore where did I say I am going on about how the IQ was made by the whites.

A leadership is beyond management. A leader of course does what a manager does, but thinks beyond the repetitive work that a manager does. A leader has a vision - an ability to think through time what a situation or country ought to be.
Unfortunately, Africa lacks those people who have the future of Africa at heart.
Many African presidents cannot be leaders, because thy are not elected by the people. They are imposed unto the masses through senseless coup d'états or through fraudulent elections .

The west ruined Africa and the middle east it's sad but true. Which is why we need to help, in a manner that is respectful of African main & middle eastern nations sovereignty rather than using our military to "help"

    • @Dronebertios_World

Zarbain sounds like a Victorian era explorer. We ruined Africa and the middle east by drawing the lines the way we did without regards to the ethnic conflicts of past.
