Thank you for your efforts. I'm an artist never even though about using dry wall compound and t.p. kinda genius really. I carve snow art and write poems. If I had a heart of a star Share that knowledge with you Shine it out from inside To expose some hidden truths That our love we lost inside Is more than anything we knew So if you seek you find We make ours dreams come true And we can change our world We can be the sunlight in this gloomy place We could know a love that Is something new, everyone We can change our world And if I could be in Saturn's rings Only for one day Make all who would gaze my wings Just to help fly away Real love could rule Kingdom in the sky today No longer being the fools Wishing and hoping for a new way We can change our world We can be the sunlight in this gloomy place We could know a love that Is something new Everyone can change our world Everyone can change our world We can change our world We can be the sunlight in this gloomy time We could know a love that Is something true We can change our world
Gesso is a form of acrylic paint, so it does seal the paper mache. I have never tried using watercolor paints over it, but it might be possible. Try it on an experimental piece first to see if it works.
Hello! I live for your art. You’re amazing. I have a question... if I already painted my paper mache with cheap hobby acrylic, can I still paper mache on top of the paint if I want more details?
Yes, I think that would work. You might want to try a spot in a hidden place, and you might need to use some very fine sandpaper to rough up the paint so the paper mache will have something to grab onto. But I'm sure you can get it to work.
Dear Jonni! I used acrylic paint. before painting, the surface was hard, after painting, traces of soot appear on the surface, as if it had softened. can this be done with other techniques?
I've never heard of this happening before. But maybe the paper mache wasn't quite dry, even though it felt dry. How long did it take for the dark areas to show up?
No, but it does give you a nice white ground for painting, and you don't need to use quite as much acrylic paint to cover the paper. But I often paint without it.
It depends on how polished you want the finish to be. I use a matte varnish on all of my animals, to keep them from being shiny. But for a metallic look, the satin or gloss would probably work better.
Could you cut one out of cardboard? If you need it to be an inch or so deep, you could cut a long strip of cardboard and tape it between two cardboard O shapes.
Hi Joanne. I was really just messing around when I painted that cat, and it didn't come out the way I wanted it to. But there is a little information about how it was done in this video, starting around the 5:40 mark: ua-cam.com/video/JGo2iKSLQpg/v-deo.html
You can use that - I have some colored waxes that I like using for details. It's fun. I haven't ever used it for an entire sculpture, though. Have you?
Love acrylics and would have never thought to use the chalk paints which are one of my favorites. Very versatile. Thank you again Joni!
Thank you so much! I've been getting into prop making of late, and this was very helpful :)
I admire your talent so much,nice lady😊
So beautiful, congratulations
Thanks!

If I had a heart of a star
Share that knowledge with you
Shine it out from inside
To expose some hidden truths
That our love we lost inside
Is more than anything we knew
So if you seek you find
We make ours dreams come true
And we can change our world
We can be the sunlight in this gloomy place
We could know a love that
Is something new, everyone
We can change our world
And if I could be in Saturn's rings
Only for one day
Make all who would gaze my wings
Just to help fly away
Real love could rule
Kingdom in the sky today
No longer being the fools
Wishing and hoping for a new way
We can change our world
We can be the sunlight in this gloomy place
We could know a love that
Is something new
Everyone can change our world
Everyone can change our world
We can change our world
We can be the sunlight in this gloomy time
We could know a love that
Is something true
We can change our world
That helps a lot
Thanks Joni!
Patricia
You're welcome. :)
Does gesso act as a sealer on paper mache? And if so can I use water based paints to finish my creations?
Gesso is a form of acrylic paint, so it does seal the paper mache. I have never tried using watercolor paints over it, but it might be possible. Try it on an experimental piece first to see if it works.
what if gouache with glue? and if i want some... "gem" effect, can i use nail polish with glitter?
Obrigada, este video foi muito informativo!
I'm glad you liked it.

Can I use gouache or acrylic gouache?
I haven't tried it, but it would probably work. You'd want to do an experiment to find out.

Can I add acrylic paint into the paper mache paste to colour it before it’s dry?
You can add it to paste, but I don't know how that would look on the finished sculpture. Go ahead and try it, and see what happens.
UAUUU show parabéns 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Can you use a spray on acrylic sealer?
Yes, I do that all the time. It works great.
Love your art 🙌🏼💜 what is the name of the varnish ?
I like using Deco Art Americana Ultra Matte, but any good acrylic varnish will work.
Hi Joni, can I also use rustoleum spray paint to paint a pre-made paper mache that I got from a craft store? Thank you 😊
I've never tried that, but I can't see why it wouldn't work. Have fun!
Can u use fabric paint on paper mache
I have no idea. You'd need to try it to see.
Do I have to prim paper mache before painting
I usually use an acrylic gesso or a spray primer, but you don't have to.
Do you have to put jesso first?
No, but it does give you a nice white ground for painting, and you don't need to use quite as much acrylic paint to cover the paper. But I often paint without it.
What finish of varnish (mat/satin/etc) would you recommend for painting something that imitates metal?
It depends on how polished you want the finish to be. I use a matte varnish on all of my animals, to keep them from being shiny. But for a metallic look, the satin or gloss would probably work better.
@@UltimatePaperMache Thank you
Anyone have a 16" paper mache block letter "O"? Supply chain issues at Hobby Lobby. Making my daughter's wedding decor. Thanks.

hi Jonni - see your cat behind you? can you do a short demo video of your painting of it? not lion - the cat.

When did you begin to create paper mache animals? 😊
Well - the first time was back in grade school, but who can remember that far back? I started my paper mache blog in 2008.
Your work is beautiful.
What about rub n buff

@@UltimatePaperMache I plan to use it on the blade of a prop sword and gold details.
