I didn't want to get good grades in school. Back in my day, nerds weren't cool. I got Bs and Cs and was always told, by teachers, that I was average. I was in 6th grade when my dad finally had enough. He told me to never except average--he also spoke with my teacher about incorrectly labeling me. I'm thankful for strong black fathers. xo

I gave my kids this thought. Someone has to be #1. "There's no reason why it can't be you." They were never afraid to lead. They were never afraid to fail. You learn from both.

The lady was the daughter of working class Black immigrants (father as a laborer, mother as a seamstress), and she graduated from Brooklyn College but also from Columbia (Teachers' College). Ran a daycare center, became a U.S Congresswoman. I'm not Black but she would deserve more recognition. She would be such an inspirational figure for many young Black people.

This was my representative and my role model. I owe much of who I am to her strength and convictions. She and my parents helped to guide me through the gauntlet of Bed Sty. l miss and love you Ms. Chisolm.

Most people refuse to accept people as they are. This is old school wisdom.

You know I was one of those kids who wanted to be in the middle. It's a shame. Now I'm older still haven't graduated, but I am teaching now. Man what the world have in store for us. Crazy peer pressure. It's true our environment changes our direction.

Xman just so you know advice that is of good quality never ever becomes "outdated". I will personally take this advice being a college student and young black woman it feels like she is saying it just for me. Ps i know its for everyone!

I have said many times, she was/is one of the greatest and most underrated Americans in History. It's immeasurable how much America and the entire world, needs her today! But she was one-in-a-world...far more rare than one-in-a-million!

Hello, I was a B student. I have 2 brothers & 1 sister. My Eric was born May 31, 1957, My brother Lee was born July 15, 1958 and I was born August 8, 1963 & My sister Lisa was born August 8, 1965.
Eric & Lisa were Honor Roll students. Lee & myself were B+ students. I had to work hard at staying a B student by studying until I get an headache. My point is I think that an A student is not for everybody. I passed i recieve High School diploma & i recieved in Associated Degree in Inmformation Science. I didn't have it easy constantly studying & cried everytime I had to take a test. I am encouraging children, teenagers & adults do the best you can & pray. Pray to FATHER GOD IN HEAVEN in JESUS' NAME before you take any exam or go on any job interview. Have wonderful day.

with that being said I am going to continue to go beyond the sky, and stars, and do it in a pragmatic, divergent way. I can't lack in any attribute, i must be creative, intelligent, tactful, patient, etc. I hope other brothers and sisters understand this! And no you do not transform into a white person by finding success if you think that then you will forever be a failure as you have a low opinion towards black people and yourself.

i talk to a whiteman about being black and certain repetitive processes and its truly sad That as a black person seeking help..... offering help and giving my all without a contract .... ur considered a fool but its what people dont do...they always say u gotta be different to stand out or be noticed its really sad what the system / support has turned into but when we dont want change whats to come.?????.growing up i didnt focus on good grades sorry to say...... just being around makes u notice so much i made a friend/associate that made good grades so just having a friend to walk with to school was a true push ...growing up its tramatizing sometimes you know your in the wrong household when the only requirment is to go !
