Back at 2017, there wasn't a single match where Adam didn't mention this in full. Fast forward to 6 years later, he isn't the captain anymore (cmiiw the new one is FZD), he isn't the dictator he used to be, but he is still the GOAT and a fierce firebreathing dragon.
Ma Long had a good workout. He's a great athlete. In fact, he let Felix win the 4th set, rather than Felix snatching the victory. Felix himself scored 8 out of 9 goals in the 4th set.
God damn whats with all the hate? Ma Long has proven himself to consistently be a top 3 TT player(pretty much number 1) for years. It shouldn't be surprising that he won. At the same time, Labrun is still young but still played well against Ma Long and has much more room to grow. Both are good, great even, but Ma Long is exceptional. No need to hate or downplay either of them.
Felix comes with a sense of belief, and he has recently won 2 out of 5 last time. Also he plays fast, and gives the feeling of disrespect towards the GOAT, whether intentional or not. Bottom line, when the fans of the GOAT see there idle being challenged, they will scream louder when someone like Felix comes along and threatens seriously the order of things. Make no mistake, he has every intention of disrupting the order of things in table tennis. 2 losses to the GOAT is not going to change that. What Im concerned about is his mental preparedness when the lights are off. He is already showing he can handle it when the lights are on.
Ma Long cool as cucumber, composed, methodical and clearly the superior player here. Credits to Lebrun for not giving up and snatching a set after being crushed in the 2nd and 3rd set. Same in the last set : he was overwhelmed but carried on trying until closing to 8-10. A very good display from both of them, Felix can see the gap and which aspect of his game he has to hone in order to get closer to this level. You already did a lot in this whole tournament. And we all audience appreciate what you have contributed so far. We will keep supporting you!!! Good job Felix! 👍👍👍
I think you're a bit oversimplifying the problems ma long poses to his opponents. For example, he is 35 but I find him to have better reflexes than 99% of his opponents and I include Felix on that list. Compare the speed of racket, the reflexes and the power of both Felix 's FH and ML's FH and you would really wonder who was the 17 years old between the two
They meant, how many points they have won(in %) when the serve was theirs. For example if Ma long had two serves and he scored a single point, then it would be 50%.
I feel the sequence from 6-8 for Felix to 11-8 for Ma in the first set is where the game shifted. Felix was looking sharp but the GOAT turned it up a notch at that point and never really looked back.

Even though Lebrun lost this match to Ma Long, I just love to watch him play. His ability to make incredible and often unpredictable shots with his panhandle style makes him the most exciting player right now. And what impresses me most about him is that he doesn't seem intimidated at all against any of these top Chinese players including the GOAT Heavenly Dragon. Lebrun still got a long way to go in terms of consistency and not making unforced errors against the top players, but boy he did make Ma Long work pretty hard for the win.

Finally a couple of full speed forehands from Ma Long. Just a few but they were clear winners. Use of a few zero-spin loops on both sides from Ma Long, using the bat angle instead of wrist spin, very effect causing an overblock into the net. Also a biting downspin serve that was disguised with a tall hop and some extra forward momentum so the backspin was harder to read. It's a risky serve because you can flick it, but it worked. Excellent match, closer than the final score.
TBH, there is still a big gap between the two. I am dubious about the “he is only 16” sort of argument (people applied that argument to Harimoto too). What differentiates Ma Long from the other players is the level of consistency of his game, mental strength, and wisdom which do not automatically grow when one gets older. Harimoto does not play as well as when he was 16.
Makes no sense to say those things "do not automatically grow when one gets older", ofc it's not guaranteed, but of course you tend to work on those things throughout your carreer. You gave one of the rare example that was better at 16. Tell me which player in the current top ten that had their peak at 16 ? Answer: none.
The only 16 argument presumes that Felix has yet to peak physically. Meaning his body is yet to get to its strongest point. He's yet to hit harder and move his fastest
Do you even watch table tennis? Mima Ito and Hirano Miu are good examples to the front. Truls also didn’t play as well as he first came out. My argument is it’s much harder for one to improve especially if you became famous at the age of 16. Why? Because people start studying your game closely, and if you don’t reach the next level, you play worse when you got older.
Felix is one of the greatest talents of the sport I have seen. In this match, his potential flashed again and again but he is not enough consistent yet. In a few years he will show what he can achieve.

I believe Felix has the ability to reach that level as well, but he is going to need to add a lot more variation to his game, mainly in the forehand. His backhand is amazing, the sidespin flicks and counters he can get are out of this world. But his forehand needs work, and I'm sure he and his coach know it. right now his playstyle looks similar to harimoto and Lin Yunju, with a powerful blocking and countering backhand with a strong flick, but a more passive forehand in the open ralley. Lin has made his forehand MUCH better, and it shows seeing as he has won the Frankfurt tournament. Surprisingly, Felix’s backhand is better but as most backhands, it’s weaker than a classic top player’s forehand. He needs to pivot more and work on his forehand counter loops.

The table tennis tricks that nearly unable to counterattack to these days : 1. Ma Long powerful forehand; 2. Zhang Jike curving backhand flick. 3. Xu Xin unique defense techniques.
Lebrun tried to downplay the dominance and prowess of Ma Long with his post game interview after defeating Lee Sang Su. He said he wouldn't mind taking on either Ma or Dima. But he clearly knows Ma has a proven track record over Dima, and he has never defeated Ma.
Felix Backhand is insane with the Penhold!!! Just wish he would stop barking when the other one starts to serve. Disrespectfull. Glad he chilled down with it after 2 set
Great game doh
Talking about respect while commenting from your couch... He's not "barking" but encouraging himself. Good he's not waiting for encouragements from Internet trolls...
@@iansmirna5183 He does it each time the other one stands and get ready to serve and LOUD! He never does it before getting ready to serve himself. He toned it down after 2 set and suddenly it wasen't disrespectful.
You need to learn what "to troll someone" means if you consider my comment as troll.
It was a great game. I supported Felix, but Ma won congratulations. Friendship wins.🎉
16:18- MA's downward spin is so powerful with a seemingly regular move
Oh no the ads are really killing it
Bravo Félix pour ce superbe tournoi.
I'm sorry but Felix is already the GOAT ! what a match !! 17 YO
You can say he is very good and very fun to watch. But GOAT? Greatest of all time without winning any World Cup or Olympic? Then we have very different definitions of GOAT.
Felix "s back hand is on point.
Felix Lebrun is reminding me a lot of Wang Hao with his backhand more decisive than his forhand. I believe that Ma Long used the strategy when playing against Fan Zhendong, to force the forhand.
I don't think Wang Hao's backhand was more decisive than his forehand... But Felix's definitely is. A grip change may be required... Fingers spread along back of bat will improve forehand GREATLY...
@@shanelawson5072 You cannot change grip so late in your career, Felix has played 14 years with penhold, changing grip would be as difficult as starting to play long pips...
The next Wang Hao, NOT Xiu Xin who was a predominately forehand RVP player.
@@Wole58I don’t think he meant changing to shake hand. I think he meant changing the grip..
@@Wole58 Yes, I meant ADJUSTING his penhold grip... Not changing to shakehand.
INCREDIBLE VOLLY @3:15
My eyes don’t deceive me - Ma Long is the best!
Ma Long; Du bist Legen Mann TT in der Welt!
@@rockyshi9609correct he didnt give a game to Otcharov
GOAT Ma long
Ma Long! 😍
GOAT doing everything for that men singles last chance at olympics
First time watching this but I think the key to the Chinese’s success is the triangle I makes with his arms to catch the ball in the middle of it while receiving
You can’t beat the goat eventhough he has aged.
Ma Long is just too good!!!
Now, yes! But Felix is growing, evolving towards becoming the best.
Ma Long,énorme ❤
REAL!!
Surgical Precision
Силища
Felix gotta chill he barks every time Ma long is gonna serve “let’s go”. His eagerness is holding him back .
It is time Felix brother to change their Coach . Ma lin and Xu Xin are legends in Penhold grip . The reason the chinese are always no 1 are because these guys have the best former no 1 coach . Even their technical coach was a former no 1.
Amazing et incroyable: 6:5 for Lebrun … Mad and nice … mental strong.
I find the commentator is heavily in favor of Lebrun. Either he's rooting for the underdog or favors European talent. Whatever the case, no reason for bias commentary.
Ma Long gave a little taste of the dragon in the final round.
This kid is gonna be on top for a while..2 more years he'll be taking wins off the top Chinese at a decent percentage..Just needs more explosiveness and power on the forehand and to improve serve return a bit..
❤ Felix is Magnificent, Grandious 👏🤗🧡
Ma Long!!!
