I just got into watch collecting. I've loved watches since I was young but I never had anyone teach me or bring deeper into the world. amzwatch brought closer to a community and hobby I always wanted to get into more and that is incredibly meaningful to me !

Longines needs to dig into their back catalog of old movements and designs, and reissue those. If the 13zn12 is ever reissued, Longines will leapfrog over Omega, Tudor, Oris, and many other brands, because that movement is so insanely good. So far, Longines suffers a bit from the ETA-disease: reuse established movements, revamp them with a column wheel here, geneva stripes there, but in essence it's old wine in new bags, which leads to the watches being fairly thick. The machine-finishing on Longines is decent enough, and not really that interesting, but in order to really jump ahead of the cue, Longines would need to make their own movements (again, or via ETA), and specifically, step away from ETA ebouches.

@@Guitarorpheo agreed. Exactly what I said on the “Longines biggest challenge” video, ETA movements are everywhere, so they feel “generic” and that seems to rub on Longines. They need to shake off this feeling and change the brand perception.

@@MiYorchStyleEnglish ETA is not perse the issue, because look at Damasko, Sinn, Tutima, and heck, even Oris. All use(d) ETA (at one point) and they were anything but generic. Longines, on the other hand, used to be towering over Omega, and was only second to friggin Patek Philippe, until the Speedmaster launched Omega into the stratosphere of popularity (with lemania in its tow), and the Quartz Crisis hit. Longines was saved by Swatch in a sense, yes, but at what cost...
Longines seems to be a bang-for-the-buck version of Omega, with Blancpain and Breguet as the 'expensive' Omega, but that does all brands a disservice.
Longes needs to go back to what it used to do. It is that simple, as far as I am concerned anyway.

Agree. How about a titanium version too like the Zulu time to make it special?
Unless Tudor does a Pelegos GMT, nobody else has one.

The new model designs are already on a high level, finishing is great for the price you’re paying. But what is under the “hood” is just as important, same goes for how people view the brand itself. Longines needs to move from ETA and start doing more in-house movements with cosc and/or meta’s certification to go up in the ranks.

@@key4duty agreed! The ETA movements feel “generic”. They really need to change brand perception and work harder on their in-house calibers.

The Sub does not have beveling either but the case sides of should at least be polished finishing to match the bracelet.
